Marie G. Eaton Lindberg was born July 23, 1919 to William and Mabel

and Marie had three children: Michael, Stephen and Pamela Rae. Marie
remained in Fosston for 10 more years after Al's passing before moving to the Twin Cities to be closer to her daughter, Pam.
Marie fell in love with Al, while attending Hope Lutheran Church one Sunday when Al was singing a solo – The Lord's Prayer. They married during WW II and were sent to Del Rio and San Antonio, TX. They returned to Minnesota as soon as possible. Together, they were integral voices in the community, their church and especially the church choir. Marie was the second child of Bill and Mabel Eaton and they preceded her in death, along with her brother, Clem and her sisters, Florence Taylor and Pat Sheldon.

Marie was blessed with many opportunities to travel throughout the years, with a trip to the Holy Land, a fall trip to New England, multiple trips to the South to visit her sons and their families and the road (Highway 2) was well traveled between Fosston and Glasgow, MT, where her parents lived and she visited them annually (oh, those MEA weekends).

Donald Edward Boll was born January 21, 1940 to John Boll Sr and Dorothy
(Wilson) Boll in Fort Meade, South Dakota. As a young boy he lived in
South Dakota, Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Japan, settling in Hampshire,
Illinois in 1952. He learned many trades as a young man from driving
truck and farming with his Grandpa Wilkerson at 12 years old.
In 1956 he met his best friend and soul mate Janice VanVleet in high
school and they married in 1960. They have three of the greatest daughters,
Jodi, Tia, and Tracy (Murph). He was jack-of-all-trades, but farming was
his passion. In 1972 together with Jan, the three girls, their dog "Boots"
and their cattle, they moved to a farm north of Gully, Minnesota, and
pursued their farming dream. For Don it was a good life, he loved his
cattle, the farm and worked at many jobs over the years to support his
farm and family. He instilled in his daughters a great work ethic that
carries through them all today. He loved people and made so many friends
all through the years and you always knew where you stood with him. He
made sure that with all the hard work of farming there was always family
play time too, racing at Bemidji on Sunday nights, fishing, snowmobiling
and travel to see friends and relatives.
He leaves behind his best friend Jan of 55 years, his daughters,
Jodi Bartz of Fosston, Minnesota, Tia Sundquist and her husband Kevin
of Hampshire Illinois, and Tracy (Murph) MacNab and her husband Roger of
Cadiz, Kentucky. His grandchildren are also so important to him and he
loved them so much. Scott Sundquist, his wife Sarah and his

and Jake MacNab from Cadiz, Kentucky and they call him "Grandpa 'Sota." Josh
Bartz from McIntosh, Minnesota, and Bobbi Jo Bartz from Fosston, Minnesota,
call him "Grandpa Gully." Shelby and Daniel will bless him with another
great-grandchild in September. He was very proud of his grandchildren and
what they have accomplished in their young adult lives. He had many
extended families and friends in Minnesota -- too long to list but he knows
you knew it.

Shannon Alysabeth "Shiny" Sanchez 2002-2016
November 15, 2002 - April 4, 2016
Resided in Crookston, Minnesota
Obituary
Shannon Alysabeth "Shiny" Sanchez was born on November 15, 2002, and
passed away in her home on April 4, 2016. Shannon was very known and
sassy. She had many friends but her best friends were her siblings. Her
favorite color was PURPLE, and if it was up to her, everyone would be
wearing purple. Her place was Texas, even though she complained that
it was too hot. Even though her heart was not well, and on most days
the heart disease called Hypo-Plastic Left Heart Syndrome, that she was
born with, stopped her from playing sports, she would enjoy playing
volleyball and basketball, and said she wanted to be #15 and walking
long distance.
Shannon still had that big smile on her perfect face and her laugh
that we are all going to miss dearly, her heart did not stop her from
fixing her or her sisters different hair styles, painting everyone's
fingernails, most of all enjoying her life, and she loved her time
outside when the weather was nice. Shannon talked about going to Art
or Beauty school because that is what she liked to do. She was taken
from us too soon and she will be greatly missed.
Those special memories of you will always bring a smile. If only I could
have you back for just a little while, then we could sit and talk again,
just like we used to do. You always meant so very much and you always
will. The fact that you are no longer here will always cause me pain,
but you are forever in my heart, until we meet again….
Shannon is survived by her parents, Tim and Belinda; brothers, Jacob,
Josh, T.J., and Dominic; sisters, Aliana and Pauline; grandparents, Santos
and Stella Sanchez of Kyle, Texas, Antonia Espinoza of San Marcus, Texas,
and Terri Zepeda of Crookston, Minnesota; uncles, Rick (Heather) Martinez,
Omar (Jessica) Sanchez, Frank (Abbey) Martinez, Freddie Martinez,
Jesse (Liana) Brooks, Leonard Sanchez, Mark (Pauline) Gunderson,
Albert (Maria) Martinez, and other relatives.
Shannon is also survived by a second family; the Aguilar family, the
Ness family, and the Johnsons.

James Gander 1925-2016
April 3, 1925 - April 20, 2016
Born: April 3, 1925
Place of Birth: Soldiers Grove, WI
Death: April 20, 2016
Place of Death: East Grand Forks, Minnesota
Biography--
James Gander of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at the age of 91.
James was born April 3, 1925, to Frank and Ethel (Hoffman) Gander, deep in the spring green hills near Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin. The youngest of five brothers, Jim attended the North Clayton Methodist Church, a one-room school and worked the family dairy farm until he was a teen, when he began working part-time as a mechanic.
At seventeen, Jim joined the Navy where he served from 1942-1946. He was a member of a naval flight crew where he was navigator, photographer, and tail gunner in the South Pacific during WWII off the aircraft carrier USS Fanshaw Bay. Later, he taught aviation mechanics in Chicago, IL.
On June 16, 1946 he married Phyllis Windahl in Viking, Minnesota. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this summer.
The couple started their family while living near Madison, WI where Jim worked as an automotive mechanic. They later moved to Fargo-Moorhead and finally East Grand Forks in 1958, where Phyllis and Jim completed their family of seven children and Jim worked in auto sales and repair. Finally, Jim and Roger Nienas opened Champion Tune-up and Auto Repair on North 3rd Street in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Their business has thrived for years and continues on under ownership by their longtime associate Jim Johnson.
Jim's many late nights working on cars and snowmobiles forged lifelong friendships and resulted in record runs at the Bonneville Salt Flats and the International 500 Winnipeg to St. Paul snowmobile race with the Simonson family. Jim was also active in racing at the Grand Forks Speedway, building engines and working in the pits for Gordy Hanson, Don Mack’s family and several other local racers for many years.
Jim served as Alderman on the East Grand Forks City Council for twenty-two years, serving as its President the majority of those years.
His garden was his pride and joy, producing enough to feed his family and anyone who dropped by. Together, he and Phyllis grew and put up the best food to last through the winter.
As an avid outdoorsman, Jim loved to hunt and fish. With the Ristaus, Linds, Sorensons, and the whole gang, he participated in every Newfolden deer hunt and Lake of the Woods fishing opener of the last 50+ years including 2015. And he loved going to the farm near Newfolden to “work” or to do whatever else needed to be done.
Upon his retirement from Champion Tune-up, Jim grew restless, being used to hard work as his way of life. He went on to work for his son, Dr. Steve Gander at Opticare where he performed eyeglass lens finishing. He said it was a lot like grinding valves. He was their all-around fix-it guy and resident jokester.
Jim was also a great story-teller and could recall tales from the war, his childhood and converse on most any subject. We never figured out how he knew so much.
Jim’s devotion to his wife, Phyllis, was evident to all who knew them as a couple. From the affectionate cuddling of their younger years, to the love and respect we witnessed in their later years, they were role models for us all. In some of his candid moments, Dad was known to admit that he was lonely when Mom went to visit her sisters. Through everything, Jim always kept his wry sense of humor, as well as his curiosity and quiet love of life. He has earned our greatest respect and we will miss him terribly.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Phyllis (Windahl) Gander, East Grand Forks; Larry (Schela) Gander, Portland, North Dakota; Patricia (Terry) Rich, Boise, ID; Bruce Gander, Apple Valley; Cindi (Jeff) Olson, Blaine, Minnesota; Becky (Bassam) Banat, Lakeville, Minnesota; Diana (Jay) Ostrander, Andover, Minnesota; and Steve (Ros) Gander, East Grand Forks, Minnesota. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers Winston, Milton, Arthur and Melvern Gander.
Pallbearers for his funeral are his 10 grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are all of his hunting and fishing buddies.
Memorials can be sent to Christ the King Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Chester Arvid Morvig 1918-2016
Born: March 21, 1918
Died: April 22, 2016
U.S. Veteran
Chester Arvid Morvig, 98, Fertile, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at
the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, Minnesota, on Friday afternoon,
April 22, 2016, with his family by his side.
Chester was born on March 21, 1918, to Alfred and Mabel (Johnson)
Morvig in Crookston, Minnesota. He grew up on the family's rural Fertile,
Minnesota, farm and was baptized at Little Norway and confirmed at Concordia
Lutheran Church, Fertile, Minnesota. He attended country school and passed
the eighth grade State Geography Exam while he was still in the sixth
grade. When he reached the eighth grade, he had to quit school to help
support his family on the farm. According to him, this sparked disagreement
among the football team since he "was a nasty guy to hold back."
For the next ten years he worked for others as a hired man for thirty
dollars a month. At the age of 24 he enlisted in the US Navy and was a
Baker Third Class in the Navy aboard the USS Lyon (AP 71) during World
War II, 1942 to 1945. His assigned battle station aboard ship was to
tend the lines for the small boats that took the troops into the beach.
He loved to tell about all the countries he traveled to: North Africa,
(Sicily) Italy, France, Scotland, British Isles, Okinawa, Philippines
and Australia. Some stories would make people laugh, some cry, but never
let you forget the endearing personality of Chester Morvig.
On October 5, 1946, Chester was united in marriage to Betty Lou
Avelsgaard by Pastor G.W. Tolo in Fertile, Minnesota. They were blessed
with five children. He retired from farming in 1981, raising small grains,
hay, corn, dairy cattle, hogs, and chickens. He was a hard worker dedicated
to supporting his family. In addition to farming, he often drove truck,
operated construction equipment, and worked other odd jobs.
Chester was devoted to God and his family. He was a great handyman;
always willing and ready to lend a helping hand if any family member asked.
Among his favorite hymns were "Saved by Grace," "Living for Jesus," and
"Old Rugged Cross." In his later years, as Alzheimer's took its toll, he
often entertained everyone with his own rendition of "Good Ship Lollipop,"
and "Show Me the Way to Go Home."
Chester is survived by his wife, Betty, Fertile, Minnesota; children,
Sandra (Donald) Andersen, Fargo, North Dakota; David (Sherry) Morvig,
Mentor, Minnesota; LaVonne (Michael) Dale, Buxton, North Dakota; Donald
(Kari) Morvig, Fertile, Minnesota; and Sylvia (Raymond) Nelson, Fertile,
Minnesota; and 11 grandchildren – Jeffrey Andersen, Lisa (Chris Tadych) Morvig, Sarah Ranz, Michelle Dale, Melissa (Jesse) Bohara, Jennifer Dale, Stacey (Trent) Oftedahl, Travis Morvig, Kiah Morvig, Jessica (Ryan) Eberhardt and Ryan Nelson, and nine great-grandchildren – Brandon Tadych, Samantha Tadych, Isaac Ranz, Abigail Ranz, Jevan Dale, AJ Johnson, Levi Oftedahl, Logan Eberhardt and Zachary Eberhardt; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Chester is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mabel Morvig;
brother, Obert Morvig; and niece, LouAnn Skrei.
Visitation will be Wednesday, April 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home,
Fertile, Minnesota.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Chester Arvid Morvig will
be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Concordia Lutheran
Church, Fertile, Minnesota, with visitation one hour prior to the memorial service
on Thursday.
Burial will be at a later date in the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery,
Fertile, Minnesota. Military Honors will also be provided.

Harold Stanley Larson, Sr. 1915-2016
Born: August 05, 1915
Died: April 24, 2016
Harold Stanley Larson, Sr., 100, of Fertile, Minnesota, died on
Sunday, April 24, 2016, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile,
Minnesota.
Harold was born on August 5, 1915, the first born, to Herbert Hagebarth
and Matilda (Tilly) (Hoglund) Larson on the family farm 3 1/2 miles east
of Fertile. He attended country school near his home. Following his
schooling, Harold worked with his family on the farm. He was able to
attend Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to learn welding. This
trade was useful as farming switched from horses to tractors.
On April 5, 1942, Easter Sunday, Harold was united in marriage to Ruth
Ofstedal at the Faaberg Lutheran Church parsonage at Rindal, Minnesota. They were
married for 74 years. Harold enjoyed the rhythm of farm life—milking cows
and planting and harvesting crops. He retired at the end of 1980. Harold
continued to assist his son-in-law, David Black, with farming into the
1990's.
Harold and Ruth enjoyed travelling in the States via car or RV trips.
His first and only plane ride was a trip he and Ruth made to the Philippines,
Taiwan, Hong Kong and Hawaii to visit their daughter and son-in-law, Ginny
and Deane. For several years, Harold and Ruth spent winters in Texas and
San Diego, CA. They were faithful and active members of Little Norway
Lutheran Church, Fertile, International Organization of Good Templars
and the Famers Union. Lake Sarah Campground gave them the opportunity
to volunteer at Campground. They were also members of the Sand Hill
Twirlers, a local square dancing club.
Growing up with horses and wagons gave Harold a deep appreciation for
the conveniences of automobiles. Fishing with family and friends, especially
Kenneth Bolstad and Edsel Johnson, was a lifelong love. He enjoyed reading,

Sister Cornelia (Margaret) Gust 1924-2016
June 27, 1924 - April 26, 2016
Resided in Crookston, Minnesota
Obituary
Sister Cornelia Gust, 91, died at Villa Saint Vincent, Crookston,
Minnesota, Tuesday, April 26, 2016.
Sister Cornelia (Margaret) Gust was born June 27, 1924 on her
grandfather's farm near Tabor, Minnesota. She was the oldest of the
eight children of George and Julia Gust: Joseph, Sister Mary Jean, Betty
Ann, Gerard, Robert, Timothy and Philip. She and her siblings enjoyed their
childhood on their parents' farm. They all graduated from Sacred Heart High
School in East Grand Forks and went on to higher education. After graduating
from high school Margaret enrolled in the Normal Training Class in Central
High School, East Grand Forks. After that, she taught in schools in rural
Polk County.
Margaret and Mary Jean both entered Mount Saint Benedict in June, 1946.
Since Margaret had taught before she entered she was given the task of
substituting in schools for sisters who became ill.
When Margaret became a novice and was invested in the Benedictine
habit she received the name Sister Cornelia. Mary Jean became known as
Sister Ameliana. Sister Cornelia and Sister Mary Jean made final monastic
profession on July 11, 1951.
Sister Cornelia was asked to teach at the Cathedral School where she
taught third and sixth grades. She was appointed the prefect of freshmen
and sophomore girls at Mount Saint Benedict Academy and was like a
"housemother" to them. Her next assignment was to Lefor, North Dakota. Because
the sisters were teaching in a public school, they had to wear secular
clothing. Their living arrangements were also interesting. They lived
in the belfry of the church with each sister having one level in the
belfry as her bedroom. After teaching in Barnesville, Minnesota she
finished a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Her next assignment was as assistant principal at Mount Saint Benedict
Academy. This was followed by seven years of working with young sisters
in temporary profession. While Sister Cornelia was teaching at Sacred
Heart High School she had a ministry to the elderly at a local nursing
home.
On December 31, 1976, the Sisters of Saint Benedict elected Sister
Cornelia as their sixth prioress, and in 1981, they re-elected her to
a second term. During Sister Cornelia's time as prioress, the Benedictine
world celebrated 1500 years since the birth of Saint Benedict of Norcia,
founder of the Benedictine Order. The Sisters of Saint Benedict celebrated
this anniversary with a "Life Chapter" during which they reaffirmed their
commitment to Benedictine values.
Sister Cornelia served on the Juridic Committee of the Federation of
Saint Gertrude, an organization of Benedictine communities who offer
support to each other. This committee was responsible for developing
the revised constitutions of the Federation which had to be approved by
the Apostolic See in Rome. During Sister Cornelia's term, some very
difficult decisions were made by the sisters. Since the beginning of
the community, the Benedictine Sisters were involved in teaching and
healing ministries, so it was difficult to close some hospitals and
especially Mount Saint Benedict Academy.
After completing her term as prioress, Sister Cornelia took a
sabbatical at Holy Names College in Oakland, CA. Following her
sabbatical, she accepted a position at the retreat center at Our
Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove, IN, which included coordination
of the lay ministry program, spiritual direction and retreat work. After
four years, she returned to Mount Saint Benedict where she worked in the
Mount Center, giving retreats and spiritual direction. Meanwhile Sister
Cornelia was elected to the Council of the Federation of Saint Gertrude.
This position often took her to other Benedictine communities throughout
the country.
Due to health issues Sister Cornelia entered the assisted living
section of the monastery, Good Shepherd Hall. Eventually, she was
admitted to Villa Saint Vincent, a skilled nursing facility.
Sister Cornelia was preceded in death by her parents Julia and
George Gust and by brothers Joseph, Robert and Gerard. She is survived
by sisters Sister Mary Jean of Mount Saint Benedict and Betty Ann (Burnell)
Skelton of LaMesa, CA and by brothers Timothy (Alice) of Los Angeles and
Philip (Zeny) of San Diego, her Benedictine Sisters and many nieces and
nephews.
Reception of the body of Sister Cornelia will be on Monday, May 2 at
4:30, p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be at
10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3. All services will be at Mount Saint
Benedict Monastery, 620 Summit Ave., Crookston, Minnesota, phone
218-281-3441.
