Yvonne Helen (Lind) Ristau

Yvonne H. Ristau age 77 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota passed away on Thursday, May 05, 2011 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Yvonne Helen Lind was born on April 9, 1934 in Newfolden, Minnesota the daughter of Helmer O. and Amelia L. (Swanson) Lind. Yvonne grew up in Newfolden, Minnesota and attended rural country school near Newfolden, graduating from Newfolden High School. She attended Bemidji State Teachers College. On June 13, 1956 she was united in marriage to Dennis Ristau in Iron Wood, MI. They resided in Crookston, Minnesota where she taught school at Washington Elementary.

They moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota where she taught 2nd grade. They then moved to Moorhead, Minnesota. In 1960 they moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota where she taught school at River Heights Elementary retiring in 1964 to raise her family.

Family members of Yvonne include her husband Dennis of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; children, Melanee Myers, Sue (Steven P.) Cariveau, Ann (Rafael) Arriaga and Steven (DeLanie) Ristau all of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, E. Delano (Margaret) Lind of Savage, Minnesota, Harley (Kathy) Lind of Grand Forks, North Dakota and many nieces and nephews.

Yvonne is predeceased in death by her parents and 1 sister Donna Mae Hogberg.

Stanley Keith Sorensen

1924-2009

November 24, 1924 - September 27, 2009

Stanley Keith Sorensen, 84 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Sunday evening, September 27th, 2009.

Stanley Keith Sorensen was born on November 24th, 1924 in McIntosh, Minnesota, the only son of Stanley and Inga Sorensen.

Stan Sorensen enlisted in the United States Navy in 1942. He served on the USS General J.H. McCrae. After his military service, he attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He received an accounting degree and was employed by Minnkota Power Company for more than 30 years.

He was united in marriage to Margaret Springsted of Saint Thomas, North Dakota, on May 28th, 1955. They lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota, until making their permanent residence in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Stan and Margaret enjoyed camping in Northern Minnesota. Stan was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was an active member in Mendenhall Presbyterian Church. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and member of the American Legion, VFW and Eagles clubs. Stan enjoyed painting and puzzles and was a great cook.

Family members include his wife of 54 years, Margaret of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; three daughters, Sonya (Darryl) Beauchamp, Roxy Sorensen, Tammy (Steve) Larson of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; two sons, Randy Sorensen of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Ned (LaSandra) Sorensen of North Las Vegas, NV; six grandchildren; Chad (Raeanne) Beauchamp, Nikki (Todd) Jackman, Kylie Hudzik, Margo Sorensen, Tre Sorensen, Matthew Sorensen and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley C. Sorensen and mother Inga (Dille) Sorensen.

William John Slater

1932-2013

February 10, 1932 - September 16, 2013

William J. Slater age 81 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, formerly of Fisher, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Oakcrest Senior Living Center in Roseau, Minnesota.

William John Slater was born on February 10, 1932 in Virden, Manitoba, Canada, the son of George and Kathleen (Woolford) Slater. William grew up on the family farm in the Sprague, Manitoba area.

On June 1, 1957 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Richardson in Warroad, Minnesota. They lived in Sprague for a short time. In 1960 they moved to Warroad, Minnesota. In the early 1960's they moved to Fisher, Minnesota. William worked for Northland Chemical Co. in East Grand Forks for many years and also worked for Driscoll Brothers Farms for many years before retiring in 1994. He moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, in 2001.

William is survived by his children, Gordon Slater of Williston, North Dakota, Tammi (Gary) Hockensmith of Aurora, CO, Gregg Slater of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Trudy (Sean) Hoff of Roseau, Minnesota, George (Pam Johnson) Slater of Warroad, Minnesota, Theresa (Rick) Helgeson of Pierre, SD and William (Kendra) Slater of Aurora, CO; fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

William was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marilyn in 1990 and one grandson Brock in 1993.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials are preferred.

Joyce Anne Stallmo

1933-2014

April 25, 1933 - August 6, 2014

Joyce Anne Stallmo, 81, went to be with the Lord on August 6th, after a long battle with cancer.

Joyce was born on April 25, 1933 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, where she met her husband of 61 years, Joel Stallmo. After moving to California in the early 50's and then Minnesota, in 1970, Joyce and Joel settled in the Phoenix area in 1979. They are members of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Sun City West where Joyce participated in the Women's Guild.

Joyce is survived by her husband Joel; her two children, Joellen Kodet and Kevin Stallmo (wife, Kim); and a grandson, Mason Stallmo. She is also survived by two siblings, Romain Guntzburger (husband Russ) and Howard Cariveau (wife Margie); and by many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, on Saturday August 16, 2014 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior. Memorial gifts may be made to support the family.

Hilary Ryan

1936-2014

December 31, 1936 - November 16, 2014

Hilary Ryan, area contractor and businessman, age 77, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died on Sunday, November 16, 2014 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, after a courageous battle with heart disease.

Hilary was born on December 31, 1936, the 12th of 13 children to the late Michael and Stella (Slominski) Ryan in Minto, North Dakota. He married the love of his life Cathy Bang on November 29, 1958 at St. Michael's in Grand Forks, North Dakota and they have been inseparable ever since. Together they raised five beautiful children. He was so proud of his family and they all loved him very much.

Hilary was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and spent many years at Cass and Maple Lakes with his family and friends. Hilary loved watching the Vikes with his sons and grandsons, and cheering on the Green Wave in EGF Hockey. Hilary was an entrepreneur and developer. He was instrumental in the building and rebuilding of the community, and his legacy will remain for years to come.

His quick wit, generosity, hard work, and love for others will always and forever be remembered.

To his faithful readers, "Hilary Says" -- it was a wonderful life.

Dennis Marvin Sinjem

1936-2014

January 7, 1936 - September 11, 2014

Dennis Marvin Sinjem, age 78, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Dennis was born on January 7, 1936 in Fosston, Minnesota, to the late Marvin and Dorothy (Harthun) Sinjem. He was raised in Fosston, Minnesota. He served honorably in the US Army from 1954-62. After his service he worked in construction as a carpenter and on the family farms. On March 10, 1966 he was married to Shirlene Nelson in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. The family lived in Nevada from 1977-1983 and then returned to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, where he worked for the School District until his retirement in 1998.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirlene Sinjem of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; daughter, LaVonne "Bunny" (Darin) Verke of Duluth, Minnesota, sons, Darin (Jamie) Sinjem of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Jason Sinjem of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren; and sister, Dianne Hurd of St. Thomas, North Dakota. Dennis was predeceased by his parents and brother, Doug Sinjem.

Michael Raymond

1949-2014

Michael Raymond, 65, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Mike Raymond was born February 16, 1949, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of George and Dorothy (Davidson) Raymond. He grew up in East Grand Forks and graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School. He worked in the summers at area Lake of the Woods Resorts and winters for Artic Cat in Thief River Falls. He married Marsha Croy in East Grand Forks on January 26, 1979. He worked for the Home of Economy for a number of years.

He married Carol Lee in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on April 1, 1995. He worked for Acme Electric and then for Home of Economy until the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife Carol of Grand Forks, children, Hanni (Adam) Go of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Paul and Eric Raymond both of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Johanna Raymond of Kansas City, MO, 5 grandchildren, and 3 step children, Mark (Lynn) Byre, Erik Lee and Betti Byre all of Grand Forks. He is preceded in death by his parents.

DuWayne Rarick

1930-2012

May 21, 1930 - May 9, 2012

DuWayne M. Rarick, 82, of Climax, Minnesota died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 9, 2012 at his home.

DuWayne was born May 21, 1930, in Climax to H. Richie and Esther (Thompson) Rarick. He grew up in Climax where he graduated from Climax High School in 1948 and began farming. He joined the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954.

On June 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to Arla Lieske in Terrebonne, Minnesota.

DuWayne farmed until 1958, he then worked at Sharon, North Dakota, and Eldred, Minnesota, elevators until 1975. He farmed until 1995.

He also served on the Supervisory Committee for Agassiz Federal Credit Union in Climax from 1994 to 1999.

Family members who survive DuWayne include his children, Patrick (Kayann) Rarick of Climax, Minnesota, William (Teresa) Rarick of Harrison City, PA, Dianne (Michael) Elwood of Climax, Minnesota and Russell (Sherry) Rarick of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Arla, great-granddaughter Calla Hope Rarick, and his sisters: Madeline, Jeraldine, and Evangeline.

Services: 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2012 at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Crookston, Minnesota.

Burial: Skatvold Cemetery, rural Climax, Minnesota.

Lester Alvin Vigness

1923-2008

June 1, 1923 - August 22, 2008

Lester A. Vigness, 85 of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, after a brief illness.

Lester Alvin Vigness was born on June 1, 1923 the son of Emil and Mable (Aker) Vigness on the family farm near Climax, Minnesota. Lester graduated from High School in Climax, Minnesota. On June 10, 1955 he was united in marriage to Donna Jean Erickson. They were the third generation to live on the farm and it was recognized as a "Minnesota, Century Farm" in 1985. Lester and Donna Jean had a daughter Rhonda and a son Juel. Juel passed away in 1994 and Donna Jean passed away in 2001. Lester married Alvera Moen Olsen on April 2, 2005 and they resided in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Lester and Alvera had many common interests and enjoyed traveling and spending time with each other's friends and families.

Lester is survived by his wife Alvera of Grand Forks, North Dakota; daughter, Rhonda Vigness and granddaughter Samantha of Chanhassen, Minnesota; sister, Vivian Barton of Crookston, Minnesota; nephew, Gary (Nancy) Letnes of Crookston, Minnesota. Lester is also survived by step-sons Ron (Cookie) Moen of Finley, North Dakota, and Doug (Linda) Moen of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Alvera's grandchildren, Harro Moen, Janssen Moen, David Moen, Chris (Marilee) Moen, Kailey Moen, Jason (Jen) Capes, Jennifer Capes, and Janelle Capes.

Lester had a curiosity and interest in all things in life. He loved people and strangers would soon become friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Flora VanDellen

1915-2009

October 1, 1915 - February 17, 2009

Flora VanDellen, 93 formerly of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

Flora Koolstra was born on October 1, 1915, in Rinsumageest, Friesland, Netherlands, the daughter of Wybe and Agnes (Epema) Koolstra.

On October 2, 1933 Flora was united in marriage to Hieke VanDellen in Crookston, Minnesota. Hielke and Flora farmed north of Crookston, Minnesota, from 1938 to 1959, when they moved to a farm in Missouri. In 1971 Flora moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota, working at various jobs before becoming a Foster Grand Parent in 1978 which she enjoyed for 27 years until 2005. The children were her life and she loved going to work everyday. Flora was a member of the Christian Reform Church. Her church and family were most important to her.

Flora is survived by children: Albert VanDellen of Everson, WA, Agnes (Richard) Swiers of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Henry VanDellen of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Wilmer (Ada) VanDellen of Mentor, Minnesota, Arlene (Alvin) Kramer of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Dennis VanDellen of Denver, CO and Susan Allen of Portland, OR; 26 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren and a cousin Jessie Brolsma of Crookston, Minnesota.

Flora is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Hielke on June 12, 1964; brothers: Ted, Miner, Peter, William and John Koolstra a great-grandson: Mark Stap, and 1 sister Vivian Frisbe.

Doris Elaine (Hennings) Vraa

1924-2009

Doris Elaine (Hennings) Vraa age 85, of Climax, Minnesota, died Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at Halstad, Minnesota.

Doris was born September 4, 1924 at Carrington, North Dakota. The daughter of Earl and Gladys (Foulston) Purcell. She was reared and attended country schools in Stutsman County at Glacier School Number 1 of District 38, west of Edmuds, North Dakota. She met and married Virgil Hennings on August 11, 1941 at Moorhead, Minnesota. They farmed and ranched in Longview Township, Foster County, North Dakota. Four children were born to the union. Richard, Fern, John and Paulette. Virgil died on July 3, 1987. Then Doris met Arthur M. Vraa of Climax, Minnesota, and they were married on September 4, 1988.

Survivors include her husband, Art of Climax, Minnesota; two sons, Richard and John Hennings of Carrington, North Dakota; two daughters Fern Hennings of Beach, North Dakota, and Paulette (Hennings) Leik of Carrington, North Dakota, and one special Granddaughter Marie LaVaux whom she raised, of Climax, Minnesota; four stepsons: David (Cheryl) Vraa of Nielsville, Minnesota, John (Signe) Vraa of Climax, Minnesota, Paul Vraa of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Eric Vraa of Madison, WI; 5 grandchildren, and 4 step grandchildren, three brothers: Wallace (Carrie) Purcell of Carrington, North Dakota, Bruce (Carolyn) Purcell of Livingston, MT, Donald (Kathleen) Purcell of Big Timber, MT; Four Sisters: Norma (Henry) Neumiller of Carrington, North Dakota, Wanda Sands of Casper, WY, Barbara (Cort) Strobel of Big Timber, MT, Sheila (Bob) O'Connell of Big Timber, MT and a brother-in-law David Myrstol of Big Timber, MT and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Rawleigh, Clayton and Henry; and one sister: Rosemary (Purcell) Myrstol and her first husband: Virgil Hennings.

Walter Van Eps

1927-2010

May 2, 1927 - December 29, 2010

Walter Van Eps, age 83, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at his home, with his family at his bedside.

Walter was born on May 2, 1927 in Holland, Minnesota, the son of Walter and Kate (Evink) Van Eps. He grew up in southern Minnesota. On October 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to Clazina VerSteeg in Hancock, Minnesota. They lived in that area until 1956, when they moved to northern Minnesota, settling in East Grand Forks in 1961. His life's work was in the potato industry, working for Lockwood Graders, V & V Sales (which he co-owned), and Pro-Ag Equipment.

Walt was a life-long member of the Christian Reformed Church, and was instrumental in the establishment of the congregation in East Grand Forks. He loved the outdoors, specifically fishing and hunting. He looked forward to annual camping and hunting trips with his family. Seeing his family together gave him great joy.

Family members who survive Walter include his wife Clazina of East Grand Forks, children, James (Clarissa) of Fisher, Minnesota, Robert (Peggy) of Morris, Minnesota, Suzanne (Richard) Smith of Morris, Minnesota, Kenneth (Rachel) of East Grand Forks, Delray of East Grand Forks, and LaRae (Curt) Foerster of Grand Forks, 24 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Wilhelmina Rabine of Willmar, Minnesota, and Tracy (Lee) Sanders of Cold Springs, Minnesota, along with numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents, 9 brothers, and 1 sister.

Died: June 13, 2012

William J. Vonasek, 89, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Riverview Health Care Center in Crookston, Minnesota.

William was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on March 24, 1923, to James and Louise (Potucek) Vonasek. He grew up and worked on the farm, in rural Tabor, his entire life, and often helped neighboring farmers. He enjoyed music, fishing, and his nieces and nephews.

Surviving William are his brothers Delbert (Alvina) Vonasek, East Grand Forks, Minnesota; Vernon Vonasek, St. Cloud, Minnesota; sister, Frances (Marvin) Chandler, Euclid, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Robert Useldinger, sister-in-law, Darlene Vonasek, East Grand Forks; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, sisters; Ann Strauss Gerdes and Angela Useldinger; brothers: John (Evelyn) Vonasek; Lawrence Vonasek; Edward Vonasek; sister-in-law Maxine Vonasek.

Jean Utzinger

1928-2013

August 19, 1928 - November 10, 2013

Jean Utzinger, 85, passed away on November 10 at the Chapel View Care Center in Hopkins, Minnesota. She was born and grew up in Lawton, North Dakota, before moving to Grand Forks where she worked as a secretary for many years and in the Computer Center at UND.

She valued her many friends and liked nothing more than going out to eat with them, sometimes more than once a day! They also had a lot of fun at the casino. Leaving her friends in East Grand Forks five years ago was difficult for her.

She is survived by her children Darla (Chris) Twomey, Kerri (Steve) Acheson and Darrell (Monique) Utzinger. and her sister Diana Cardwell. She loved her grandchildren Jeff (Jenny) Twomey, Kamie (John) Kennedy, Graham (Siobhan) Acheson, Tyler (Caroline) Acheson, Erin (Lou) Doth, Linsey Utzinger, Jamie Utzinger and Jenna Utzinger. She also had five great-grandchildren to love: Gracie and Ella Twomey (Jeff), Jack and Charlie Kennedy (Kamie), and London Doth (Erin).

Her husband, Wallace ("Baldy") Utzinger, sister Irene Miller and brother Gordon (Shirley) Rod preceded her in death many years ago.

A memorial visitation will be held in East Grand Forks at the Dahl Funeral Home on Friday November 15th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service.

November 2, 1910 - April 26, 2007

Ella H. Thompson, 96, East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Valley Memorial Home, Prairie View, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Ella was born just north of Grand Forks on November 2, 1910 the daughter of John and Thea (Holverson) Spicer. As a young girl she moved to Puposky, Minnesota, with her family returning to East Grand Forks where she married Clarence P. Thompson on October 29, 1933. They farmed north of East Grand Forks until retirement in 1971. Ella was a member of United Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, East Grand Forks Heritage & Senior Citizens Centers, a charter member of the Happy Neighbors Homemakers Club, a volunteer for the American Red Cross and was a 4-H leader. She received the honor of Outstanding Senior Citizen of Polk County in 1988.

Ella is survived by her children; Donna Duhamel of Bemidji, Minnesota, Joann (Bill) Markland of Longmont, Colorado, Sharon (Curt) Thureen of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, daughter-in-law, Jean Danner Thompson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter, and a sister; Myrtle Hanson of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in 1978, a son, Gene, grandson, Bart Thompson, 7 brothers and 4 sisters.

Douglas Eugene Teigland

1926-2009

Douglas E. Teigland 83, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Douglas Eugene Teigland was born on February 17, 1926 in Grygla, Minnesota, the son of Mikkal and Mary "Mae" (Smith) Teigland. Douglas grew up in Grygla and Dawson, Minnesota, and then in 1941 he moved to Waukegan, IL. In 1946 he moved to Bemidji, Minnesota, and began farming. In 1953 he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Panama. Following his discharge in 1956 he moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

On July 24th, 1959 he was united in marriage to Adeline Mattson at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. He worked as a Mechanic in a small engine repair shop in East Grand Forks. In 1974 he began employment at American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and worked as a mechanic there until his retirement in 1990.

Douglas truly enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing cards and telling stories.

Douglas is survived by his wife Adeline of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; children: Roy (Karlin) Teigland of Savage, Minnesota, Cindy (Gary) Vanyo of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Lori (Todd) Bethke of Bloomington, Minnesota; grandchildren: Sarah, Drew, Michelle, Matthew and Amy; one sister Edna Brooks of Tucson, AZ
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters Ardith Kluzak and Phyllis Tollefson.

Erma Mae (Hansen) Tack

1916-2010

June 12, 1916 - November 3, 2010

Erma Tack, 94, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, formerly of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, November 03, 2010 at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Erma Mae Tack was born June 12, 1916 in Mitchell, South Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Jeanne (Frazer) Hansen. She married Ross McMillan in Petersburg, North Dakota, on August 27, 1938. They farmed in the Fordville, North Dakota, area until his death in 1977. She married Leslie Tack on July 23, 1984 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Leslie died December 2, 1990.

She is survived by three step children, 13 step grandchildren and 18 step great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, June Bevert and Shirley Tack; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; four brothers and four sisters.

Upon Erma's request there will be no services.

James H. Tronnes age 92 of Shelly, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, Minnesota.

James Howard Tronnes was born on August 28, 1919 in Belmont Township, Traill County, North Dakota, the son of Alfred and Sina (Hanson) Tronnes. James moved with his family to Shelly, Minnesota, at the age of 2 weeks. He attended a country school in Shelly Township. On March 2, 1947 he was united in marriage to Audrey Grothe in Shelly, Minnesota. James farmed his entire life in the Shelly area and also worked part time for Les Peterson as a plumber for a number of years.

Family members of James include his children, Jerry (Melanie) Tronnes of Climax, Minnesota, Randy (Ruth Ann) Tronnes of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Jamie (Tami) Tronnes of Nielsville, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Audrey on May 10, 2011; a brother, Harvey Tronnes; and by three sisters, Alice Malme, Mildred Aanenson and Thelma Hanson.

Memorials may be sent to the Shelly Marsh River Church, Shelly, Minnesota.

Adeline J. Teigland 79, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Sanford Hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota.

Adeline Joan (Mattson) Teigland was born on July 15, 1932 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Adolph and Mathilda (Erickson) Mattson. Adeline grew up in rural East Grand Forks, Minnesota. After graduating from Aaker's Business School she worked at both UND and Ruettells.

On July 24th, 1959 she was united in marriage to Douglas Teigland at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. She later worked at American Crystal Sugar Company and Anderson Bothers Body Shop as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1996. Adeline truly enjoyed spending time with family, baking, church activities, gardening, flowers, and playing cards with friends and family.

Adeline is survived by her children: Roy (Karlin) Teigland of Savage, Minnesota, Cindy (Gary) Vanyo of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Lori (Todd) Bethke of Bloomington, Minnesota; grandchildren: Sarah, Drew, Michelle, Matthew and Amy; one brother Eugene "Jeep" (MaryAnn) Mattson of East Grand Forks, Minnesota

LeRoy Ronald "Ronnie" Teigland

1930-2013

September 27, 1930 - May 15, 2013

LeRoy Ronald "Ronnie" Teigland, 82, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Roseau Life Care Center, Roseau, Minnesota.

Ronnie Teigland was born September 27, 1930 in Goodridge, Minnesota, the son of Allen and Marjorie "Alice" (Stephenson) Teigland. He moved to Grygla, Minnesota, where he attended rural Grygla schools. He served his country in the US Army from 1950-1952. He moved to Waukegan, IL and worked at various jobs and started his career in plumbing and pipefitting.

He returned to Minnesota, in the early 1960's where he joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 300 of Fargo, where he was a member for over 50 years. He worked on many construction sites at schools, water plants, missile sites, paper mills, sugar beet factories and Altru Rehab Clinic, usually as a foreman or general foreman. He also farmed his home place at Grygla, Minnesota, for a few years while working construction. On December 13, 1969 he married Irene Flaten in Warren, Minnesota. Ronnie retired in 1994 and then worked on farms for Tommy Jackson, Rodney Pape and for many years Dan Driscoll, where he loved being on the tractor.

He is survived by his loving wife Irene of East Grand Forks, children, Shane (Donalyn) of rural Roseau, Minnesota, Shawn (Tiffany) of Roseau, Minnesota, Kim (Scott) Dickman of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Corey (Julie) of Mayville, North Dakota, Grandchildren, Ryan, Teralyn, Beau, Ericka, Samantha, Cole, Lora, and Cody, Great grandchildren, Ezekial, Trent and Ryder, brother, Wendell (Audrey), sisters, Janice (David) Sheridan, Sharon (John) Flom, and Sandra Anderson all of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Beverly Doss of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, sister in law Darlene Stewart of Roseau, many nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and great nephews, and mother in law Ella Flaten of Portland, North Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dale, Gerald, and an infant sister Ramona, and father in law Hilmen Flaten.

He was loved very much and will be dearly missed.

Mickey L. Thompson age 83 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, June 5th, 2013 at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, Minnesota.

Mickey Lincoln Thompson was born on December 18, 1929 in Long Prairie, Minnesota, the son of John D. and Carrie M. (Paulson) Thompson. Mickey grew up in the Bigwoods, Minnesota, area where he attended rural Bigwoods School. In 1951 he joined the United States Army and served his country until 1953. On December 9, 1957 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Campbell in Warren, Minnesota. They lived in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, their entire married life. Mickey worked for Howard Brothers Farms and Custom Combining of Warren. He also worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad. Upon his retirement from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1994, he operated a hobby farm near Bigwoods, Minnesota, at the site of the Old Bigwoods Landing.

Mickey is survived by his loving wife Evelyn of East Grand Forks; one brother, Clifford (Trudy) Thompson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; two sisters, Arlene Thompson and Jean Brown both of Downey, CA.

Mickey is preceded in death by his parents John D. and Carrie M. Thompson and one sister Stella.

Patricia Ann Twite

1933-2014

October 9, 1933 - December 12, 2014

Patricia Ann Twite, 81 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Friday December 12, 2014 at Valley Memorial Transitional Care Unit in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Pat was born on October 9, 1933 in rural Geneseo, North Dakota, the daughter of Lawrence and M. Leona (Arnold) Baldwin. Pat grew up and attended Wood Lake School in Marboe Township of Sargent County. Pat graduated from Veblen High School in 1951. On October 11, 1953 Pat was united in marriage to Roland D. Twite in Veblen, SD. Together they moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, area in 1956. Pat stayed home and raised the boys until they were in school. In 1961, Pat was employed by Richard J. Osmundson Dental Office for over 25 years.

Pat then worked at the East Grand Forks Central Middle School for 20 years where Robert Simonson and Lon Ellingson were principals. Pat enjoyed teaching Sunday school, working with the youth group, and participating in the women's group at Mendenhall Church. Pat was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Red River Chapter 226 where she was Worthy Matron in 1981-82 while Roland was Worthy Patron. In 2010, East Grand Forks gave up their Charter, and she then joined the Crookston Chapter 137.

Pat always enjoyed traveling to Rapid City and a recent vacation to Las Vegas, NV. Pat enjoyed bringing her grandchildren on many vacations and spending quality time caring for each one of them. Pat was an avid fan at every sporting event her grandchildren or great-grandchildren were playing in; you always could find her in the same seat in the arena at every game. After retiring, Pat enjoyed spending time at Mendenhall Presbyterian Church quilting, crafting and making jelly and lefse. Pat also volunteered at the East Grand Forks Food Shelf.

Pat is survived by her loving family; son. Douglas (Kathleen) Twite, grandson Dave (Sara) Twite, and his children Hannah, Hunter and Hudson, grandson Damon (Diana) Twite and their daughters Abbi, Madison and Chloe and grandson Darren all of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and son Mark (Candy Bengtson) Twite of Lengby, Minnesota, and his daughters Tamara and Trisha Twite of Fargo, North Dakota, one sister Jeanne Risdall of Rapid City, SD and a sister-in-law Ramona Baldwin of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Pat in death are her parents, husband, brother Donald L. Baldwin, brother-in-law Earl Risdall and twin infant granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Mendenhall Presbyterian Church General Fund or American Diabetes Fund are preferred.

Audrey Tronnes, 82, of Shelly, Minnesota, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Sanford Health, Fargo, North Dakota.

Audrey Jean Grothe was born on October 24, 1928 in Halstad, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence and Evelyn (Baggerud) Grothe. Audrey grew up in the Halstad & Shelly, Minnesota, area and attended school in Climax, Minnesota, where she graduated. On March 2, 1947 she was united in marriage to James Tronnes in Shelly, Minnesota. She worked at Wollertson Grocery Store in Shelly, Minnesota, and also worked for Crookston National Bank and Climax Credit Union before retiring. Audrey was a member of the Shelly Marsh River Church and VFW Auxiliary.

Audrey enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with Jim and their friends for the past 25 years. Audrey had many passions which included time with friends and family. Shopping with her friends was at the top of her list.

Audrey was part of the original singing group, The Inspirations, a Christian Choir, performing concerts throughout the area.

Family members of Audrey include her husband James of Shelly, Minnesota; children, Jerry (Melanie) of Climax, Minnesota, Randy (Ruth Ann) Tronnes of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Jamie (Tami) Tronnes of Nielsville, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Audrey is preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Myron Baggerud and Dale Grothe and an infant sister Gayle.

Osmund Thorson

Osmund Thorson, 91, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Monday, August 3, 2009 at his home. Osmund Thorson was born May 19, 1918 in Bygland, Minnesota, the son of Thor and Jennie (Ryastad) Thorson. He attended the Crookston AC College. He married Winnefred Dietzler in Omaha, Nebraska on September 12, 1942. They farmed in Bygland Township, Polk County, Minnesota. Winnefred died Sept. 20, 1980.

He married Helen Marynik in Grand Forks on March 16, 1984. They moved to Grand Forks in 1984. The land and farming was always very important to Osmund as he would always travel to the Bygland farm to see how things were going. During his life he was very involved in the Minnesota, Crop Improvements Assn. where he was honored as Mr. Crop Improvement in 1991. Osmund was always a gentleman and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Helen of Grand Forks, sons, Paul (Connie) of Fargo, North Dakota, John (Sandy) of East Grand Forks, 2 step children, Julie (Charles) Horter of Bismarck, North Dakota, James (Jean) Marynik of Grand Forks, sister-in-law Adiline Thorson, grandchildren: Chad (Katie) Thorson, Jason (Haley) Thorson, Jenny Thorson, Paul Jr. (Pauline) Thorson, Angie (Clark) Shumake, Craig (Jane) Marynik, Adam (Amanda) Marynik, Lisa, Jamie , Kyle Marynik, Stacy (Gabe) Dahl, Rachel (Justin) Foster, and Andria (Kyle) Leftwich and 14 great grandchildren. Lawrence Albert Vonasek

1924-2011

June 3, 1924 - November 23, 2011

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that our beloved and caring husband, dad, grandfather and brother Lawrence A. Vonasek age 87 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Lawrence Albert Vonasek was born on June 3, 1924 in Tabor, Minnesota, the 3rd oldest son of James and Louise (Potucek) Vonasek. Lawrence grew up on a farm near Tabor, Minnesota, and attended school through the 8th grade. In 1946 Lawrence joined the United States Army and served two years, one of which was overseas in Japan before returning to Tabor, Minnesota. On June 29, 1948 he was united in marriage to Darleen Myerchin. They recently celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary. Lawrence worked for local farmers during harvest time, Jerome Dunlevys, Mobil Gas Station and later for Bridgeman Creamery. He worked for the City of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, for about 20 years. He was a mechanic and fixed everything from police cars to garbage trucks. Lawrence and Darleen made their home in East Grand Forks where they raised their one son and five daughters.

Lawrence had always enjoyed the outdoors. He liked fishing at Red Lake and went with family and relatives on many camping trips over the years. He loved a "Good Campfire". He also enjoyed playing whist, pinocle and rummy, going for walks outdoors, most any sport and was an avid vegetable gardener. Lawrence liked to be around children, eat sweets and to tell stories of his years in the military. He was a very loving and caring husband and the best father one could ever be blessed with. Lawrence is now an angel just like those above. He had patience to be that special "Dad" and he loved and protected us. He will be our "Guardian Angel".

Family members who survive Lawrence include his wife Darleen of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; children, Lyle (Sandy) Vonasek of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Arletta Vonasek of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Carol (Jeff) Bellmore of Puposky, Minnesota, Vicki (Mark) Boushee of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Vonnie Norman of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Teresa Vonasek of Grand Forks, North Dakota; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, William Vonasek of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Vernon Vonasek of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Delbert (Alvina) Vonasek of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; A sister, Frances "Frannie" (Marvin) Chandler of Euclid, Minnesota. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents James and Louise Vonasek, brothers John Vonasek and Edward Vonasek, sisters Angela Useldinger and Anne Gerdes and sister-in-laws Evelyn (John) Vonasek and Maxine (Vernon) Vonasek.

Eleanor G. Thorson 87, died peacefully with her family surrounding her on March 26, 2007 at the Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Eleanor Geneva Thorson was born on February 16, 1920 in Sylvester township rural Fairdale, the daughter of Edwin and Amanda Anderson. She moved with her family to Prospect Township in Rural Edmore, North Dakota. She attended school in Prospect and High School in Edmore and Nekoma. Eleanor married Leonard Thorson on October 30, 1937 in Devils Lake, North Dakota. Eleanor and Leonard had 7 children Leland, Lois, Loren Wayne, Sharon, Cathy, Donald and a stillborn child. They farmed at Derrick, North Dakota, and Webster, North Dakota. They moved to Larimore, North Dakota, where Eleanor worked at the Larimore Nursing Home for 12 years. They moved to Grand Forks in 1959 where Eleanor worked at Old Dutch Potato Chips for several years. She worked at Valley Memorial Homes for 29 years.

Oscar "Pete" Vraa

1920-2010

April 6, 1920 - May 3, 2010

Oscar Peter (Pete) Vraa age 90 passed away early Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at the Halstad Living Center in Halstad, Minnesota.

Oscar "Pete" Vraa was born on April 6, 1920 in Climax, Minnesota, the son of Sander and Ida (Olson) Vraa. He attended Climax Public School and graduated with the Class of 1938 as Valvictorian. Except for four years when he served in the United States Army during World War II, he spent his entire life on the family farm at Climax, Minnesota, Pete entered the United States Army in January of 1942 and served with the 2nd Sep. Chemical Mortar Bn. He served with distinction in campaigns including Sicily, Italy and into southern Germany. Pete regularly attended his unit's reunions in his later years. Pete was also active in the American Legion and was a member of the American Legion Hubbard Post #336 of Nielsville, Minnesota, where he was financial officer for several years.

Pete was treasurer of the Vineland Township Board and served on the Climax Lutheran Church Council and was sexton for Skatvold and Bergit Cemeteries. He was also on the board for the Climax Cooperative Elevator, and Agassiz Federal Credit Union. Pete's main interest was in farming and operated the family farm for many years with his nephew John. Although Pete was never married, he was the "Favorite Uncle" of his nieces and nephews.

Pete is survived by two brothers Art Vraa of Climax, Minnesota, and Ivan Vraa of Sun City, AZ; nieces, MaryLue Vraa of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Karen (Ken) Zebluski of Tracy, CA; nephews, Tom (Mary Ellen) Parks of San Mateo, CA, Stewart Seidel of CA, Kevin Vraa of WI, Keith (Lori) Vraa of NM, Michael (Ceres) Vraa of Minneapolis, Minnesota, David (Cheryl) Vraa of Nielsville, Minnesota, John (Signe) Vraa of Climax, Minnesota, Paul Vraa of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Eric (Mary) Vraa of Madison, WI.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents Sander and Ida, four sisters, Agnes, Sylvia, Louise and Belva and one brother David.

Evelyn Laverne (Bratvold) Vonasek

Evelyn L. Vonasek, 82 of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2008 at her home in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Evelyn Laverne Bratvold was born on July 8, 1926 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, the daughter of Gilbert A. and Hilma B. (Johnson) Bratvold. She grew up and attended rural school near East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

On February 12, 1946 Evelyn was united in marriage to John F. Vonasek in Tabor, Minnesota. Evelyn was employed with Land Of Lakes in Grand Forks, North Dakota, for 27 years and also worked for American Crystal Sugar Company during Campaigns in the factory of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Evelyn enjoyed baking, cooking, canning, crocheting and walking. At the age of 80 Evelyn went back to work for a year at Curves which she thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people, exchanging more recipes and most of all learning the computer. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren's baseball, softball and basketball games.

Vonasek of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Lynnette Vonasek of Otsego, Minnesota; 3 brothers: Vernon (Helen) Bratvold of Crookston, Minnesota, Roy Bratvold of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Lester Bratvold of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; 1 sister: Violet Bren of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; 1 sister-in-law Delores Bratvold of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband: John F. Vonasek on July 27, 1989; brothers: Arthur, Melford, Ernel and Orien Bratvold and one sister Hazel Martin

Roland D. Twite

1932-2007

July 19, 1932 - December 7, 2007

Roland Twite, 75 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Roland D. Twite was born on July 19, 1932 in rural Veblen, SD, the son of Lewis and Ida (Granaas) Twite. Roland grew up and graduated from High School in Sisseton, SD in May of 1950.

On October 11, 1953 Roland was united in marriage to Patricia Baldwin in Veblen, SD. They moved to the Grand Forks, North Dakota, area in the spring of 1956. He lived in Emerado, North Dakota, for 2 years while building roads into the Grand Forks Air Force Base. He moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, in the fall of 1959 and has resided here since. They joined Mendenhall Presbyterian Church in November of 1960. Following his road construction career, he worked for Jerome Dunlevy Company, Robert McWalter Farms, Grand Forks Grocery and Dakota, Film and Express.

Roland then joined the team at Home of Economy in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and retired from there after 25 plus years of employment. On March 11, 1975 Roland was initiated into Red River Lodge #292 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. On May 31, 1975 he was raised to the degree of a Master Mason. He served as Worshipful Master in 1980 and served as Chaplin from 1981 until the time of his death and was also a past member of the Eastern Star.

Family members who survive Roland are his wife Patricia of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, sons, Douglas (Kathleen) Twite, grandson, Dave (Patti) Twite and their children Hannah, Hunter and Hudson, grandson, Damon (Dianna) Twite and their children Abbi, Madison and Chloe and grandson Darren of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and son, Mark (Renee) Twite and their children, Tamara and Trisha all of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 2 brothers, Lyle (Alda) Twite of Bagley, Minnesota, Donovan (Evelyn) Twite of DeSmet, SD.

Preceding Roland in death are his parents and twin granddaughters.

Ronald James Vonasek

1951-2013

April 26, 1951 - December 19, 2013

Ronald J. Vonasek age 62 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Ronald James Vonasek was born on April 26, 1951 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of Joseph and Marie (Pahlen) Vonasek. Ronald grew up and attended rural school in Tabor. He graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School with the Class of 1969. Following his high school graduation Ronald attended Moorhead Technical College. He worked for Coke a Cola Distributing in Fargo and then for RDO Equipment for 42 years. On July 15, 1971 he was united in marriage to Genevieve "Genny" Kovar in Tabor, Minnesota. He served his country with the National Guard from 1971 to 1977. Ronald farmed his entire life in the Tabor area. He was also an Alderman for East Grand Forks from 2011 to the time of his death.

Ron is survived by his wife Genny of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; children, Shane (Angie) Vonasek of Roseau, Minnesota, Jodie (Dustin) McDonald of Fisher, Minnesota, Jeff Vonasek of Angus, Minnesota, Jackie (Jeremy) Aker of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Aimee (Paul) McGlynn of Fargo, North Dakota, and Laura (Dylan) McDaniel of Grand Forks, North Dakota; nine grandchildren with two more on the way; siblings, Donna (Dean) Burton of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Dennis (Denise) Vonasek of Lakeville, Minnesota.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Vonasek and one brother David. He was a member of the Eagles, Modern Woodmen, and the Knights of Columbus.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials are preferred.

Vernon James Thomas

1925-2012

Vernon J. Thomas, age 87 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks, North Dakota

Vernon James Thomas was born on February 5, 1925 in Riverside CA, the son of Bernard and Claire (Burnett) Thomas. In 1934 the family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1942. Following his high school graduation, he joined the United States Army in 1943 where he served in the Philippines and Japan. Vernon attended the University of North Dakota.

On October 7, 1950 he was united in marriage to Murial Sorenson until she passed away on October 16, 1996. He worked for Firestone, Industrial Credit and was a volunteer firefighter while in Minneapolis. He moved with his family to East Grand Forks in 1963 and worked as the Bursar for the University of North Dakota, in Grand Forks before retiring in 1990. On June 18, 1999 he married Irene Campbell.

Loving family members of Vern include his wife Irene of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; children, Ann (Keith) Brundin of Sioux Falls, SD, Stephen (Jacqueline) Thomas of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Mary (Michael) Burbach of St. Paul, Minnesota; his sister, Patricia (Richard) Astrup of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; grandchildren: Bernie, Jeffrey, Lesa, Jessica, Alia, Katie, Laura, Etsgnet, Dagamawit and Meheret; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Vernon is predeceased in death by his parents; wife Muriel; two sons, Michael and Douglas Thomas along with granddaughter Sarah Thomas.

In Lieu of flowers, the family respectively asks that memorials be given to Sacred Heart Development Fund.

Kathleen "Kate" Elizabeth Trudel, age 57, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Kate was born on September 23, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, to William L. and Ann L. (Byers) Shannon. Kate grew up attending catholic and public schools in Grand Rapids. She was a proud graduate of Grand Rapids High School class of 1972. On April 28, 1979 she celebrated her marriage to Patrick Trudel. They resided in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and Grand Forks, North Dakota, where she worked putting her husband through college. Soon following her two children became her full time job. The family also lived in Idaho Falls, ID where she began becoming active in numerous organizations revolving around her children's activities.

Family members who survive Kathleen include her husband Patrick; children, Ryan and Kerianne of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; siblings, Molly Gores of Cohasset, Minnesota, Daniel Shannon of Coleraine, Minnesota, Laurie (Dale) Hanson of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; and aunt, Elizabeth Shannon of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents and her uncle, Edward Shannon.

Janice Thiel, 79 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Janice Thiel was born September 21, 1932 in Radium, Minnesota, the daughter of Emil and Herren (Hunstad) Clausen. She grew up in the Radium and Goodridge Minnesota, area and graduated from Grygla High School in 1950. She married Vernon Thiel on November 11, 1950 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. She worked at American Crystal Sugar for over 30 years retiring in 1998. She also volunteered at the Campbell Library for 2 years. She remained very active until the time of her death.

She is survived by her daughters, Rae Lynne (Greg) Moan of Fargo, North Dakota, Denise (Paul) Christofferson of Montana City, Montana, Michele Thiel of Grand Forks, Brenda (Todd) Hanson of Grand Forks and Traci (Ron) Ost of Nashua, Montana, her dog Missy, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 infant daughter and 2 brothers, Carroll and Mervyn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are to be directed to the Campbell Library of East Grand Forks, Minnesota.


Services: 2:00 PM, Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Stennes Dahl Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Adeline Corinne (Torgerson) Thorson

1914-2013

July 3, 1914 - May 17, 2013

Adeline C. Thorson, 98, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on May 17, 2013.

Adeline Corinne Torgerson was born July 3, 1914 to Leif and Helen (Flaat) Torgerson in Thompson, North Dakota, Bentru Township. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Bygland Lutheran Church, where she was a lifelong member, active in Ladies Aid, Altar Guild, and church Choir. Adeline attended Bygland School and graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School. After completing two years of teacher's training at Moorhead Normal School, she taught at Bygland "Country School."

On November 16, 1946 she married Harold Thorson in Bygland, Minnesota. They farmed in Bygland Township for over 30 years, where she worked in their home and tended a beautiful yard and large garden. A member of Homemaker's Club, she was known for her pies, cookies, bread, lefse and other Norwegian treats. She always enjoyed a game of Scrabble.

After leaving their farm, she and Harold lived in a townhouse in East Grand Forks. A few years after his death, she moved to her home for the last several years, Good Samaritan Heritage Oaks. She was grateful for the loving care she received from the special people there, and the help given by Ozzie and Carol Moe, John and Sandy Thorson, Florence Danielson, Rae Potter, and all of her friends and family.

She is survived by her nephew, Deane (Jill) Johnson, their daughter Chelsey, sons Nate and Dan (Ann) and great nephew, Leif; her niece Diane (Patric) Reuter and son Robert; and a number of cousins here and in Norway.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, and her sister Thelma Johnson, and brother-in-law Clinton Johnson.


Funeral Services: will be held at Bygland Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at 11 AM, with Pastor Karen Young Trenne, presiding.

Visitation: will be held at the Dahl Funeral Home, on Tuesday, May 21, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.

Interment: Wednesday May 22, 2013, Bygland Lutheran Cemetery, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

James Thompson

1934-2010

June 11, 1934 - July 17, 2010

James Thompson, 76 of rural Grand Forks, North Dakota, died on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at his home with his family by his side. James N. Thompson was born June 11, 1934 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of Melvin and Edith (McDonald) Thompson. He grew up in rural Grand Forks and attended school in Grand Forks. He joined the US Navy in 1952 and was discharged in 1957. He married Jean Jorgenson in Pueblo, CO on September 9, 1961. He then started working in construction and started his own masonry business in 1972 where he was self employed until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife Jean of Grand Forks; one son, Marty of Grand Forks; a sister, Margery (Bill) Wasylow of Larimore, North Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Mabel, Helen, Beverly and Janet; and brothers Melvin Jr. and Richard.
