Donald Holweger

1927-2013

Life Legacy--

Donald Holweger, 86, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, North Dakota.

Donald Holweger was born on April 5, 1927 in Emerado, North Dakota, the son of Fred and Lena Holweger. Donald grew up in Emerado and farmed with his parents. On December 30, 1949 he was united in marriage to Glenna Stepanek at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

In 1960 they moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, where he worked for Johnson-Gillanders Construction Co. and Lunseth Plumbing & Heating. In 1974 he started Holweger Excavating and continued to own and operate the business before retiring in 1998.

Don was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and also a Life Member of the Eagles Lodge #350 of East Grand Forks. Don enjoyed traveling all over the United States and Mexico with their Motorhome, cooking and outdoor grilling for family and friends and sharing stories with family and friends. Don's favorite activity was being outdoors with his nuts, bolts and John Deere tractors.

Don is survived by his wife Glenna of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; children, Kathy (Rick) Lee of Fargo, North Dakota, Michael (Bonnie Schultz) of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Cynthia of Livingston, MT; 6 granddaughters, Shawnna, Kelly, Jodi, Jill, Holly and Erica Ann; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Clara (Henry) Taylor of Apache Junction, AZ and brother, Milton Holweger of Grand Forks, North Dakota, along with many nieces and nephews.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and six brothers.

Robert Carl Holcomb, 82, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Robert Holcomb was born July 7, 1930 in Burlington, Iowa the son of Carl and Cecil Bradfield Holcomb. He grew up in Burlington, Iowa and attended Moline, Illinois High School. He served his country in the US Navy for a number of years. He married Lodema "Mo" Moses in Burlington, Iowa, on November 12, 1950. He then served his country in the US Air Force where he was stationed in numerous airbases throughout the world, until his retirement in 1968. He then worked for the US Civil Service.

Carl is survived by children, Pamela (Holcomb) Cann of Niceville, Florida, Debra (Mike) Eley of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Kurt (Cassie) Holcomb of Ballinger, TX, and Brenda (Scott) Tufte of Grand Forks, North Dakota, grandchildren, Sheryl Jones, Jessica Lee, Heather Holcomb, Hunter Tufte and Hannah Holcomb along with 2 great-grandchildren, Kenzie Cann and Kaleb Jones, sister in law Betty Setterberg of Burlington, Iowa and lifelong friend Bonny Augsburger.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lodema "Mo," granddaughter Melissa D. Hendrix, and lifelong friend James Augsburger.

Regina M. (Ehli) "Gina" Hanson

1917-2011

January 24, 1917 - March 5, 2011

Regina (Gina) M. Hanson, 94, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Valley 4000 assisted living, Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away at Valley Eldercare, Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Saturday, March 5, 2011.

Gina was born on January 24, 1917 in Mandan, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Katherine (Dosch) Ehli. She was raised near Verendrye and Karlsruhe, North Dakota, attending School in Verendrye, North Dakota. She worked in the cafe in Velva, North Dakota, and at Boeing in Seattle, WA before marrying Melford (Rusty) Hanson on September 27, 1946 in Velva, North Dakota.

Gina and Rusty resided in Velva until 1968 when they moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota. They owned the Coast to Coast store in East Grand Forks and later Gina worked at the Coast to Coast store and Hardware Hank in Grand Forks until retiring. Gina loved gardening, was a fabulous cook and baker and seamstress. She liked nothing better than to make meatballs and gravy, German noodles, bread and rolls and desserts for her children and grandchildren. Gina was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Gina is survived by her children: Deb (Jim) Maves, Woodbury, Minnesota, Chuck (Chris) Hanson, Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Jan (Charlie) Bridgeford, Grand Forks, North Dakota; her grandchildren: Kyle, Heidi and Derek Hanson and Adam, Aaron and Briana Bridgeford; great grandson: Lennon Bouvette; two sisters: Pauline Palmer, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Katherine Seibel, Pierre, SD; two brothers: Frank Ehli, Eugene, OR and P.T. Ehli, Springfield, OR. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; a daughter, Karlin K Hanson; grandson, Colin Bridgeford; sisters: Mae Meyers and Anna Marie Ehli.

Memorials are preferred to Wheatland Terrace or Valley Eldercare.

Ralph Adolph "Swede" Hangsleben

1931-2009

Ralph "Swede" Hangsleben, 78, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Ralph Adolph Hangsleben was born on February 12, 1931 in Eagle Lake, Minnesota, the son of William and Agusta (Kopecsky) Hangsleben.

Ralph grew up in the Warren Minnesota, area and in 1952 he joined the United States Marine Corps and served our country until 1954. On April 7, 1956 he was united in marriage to Barbara Enright in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Ralph farmed in the East Grand Forks, Minnesota, area until 1980 and also worked for American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Ralph worked commercial construction until his retirement in 1996.

Family members who survive Swede include his wife; two daughters: Stacy Hangsleben (Jerry Bailey) of Fisher, Minnesota, Dawn (Kurt) Farris of Omaha, NE, two grandchildren: David and Alexis Farris; brother: Alfred (Vivian) Hangsleben of Warroad, Minnesota, and one sister Elsie (Olaf) Hegland of Seattle, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Ralph in death is his parents; son Jay Hangsleben on October 6, 2006, brothers: Ardell, Walter, Gust, Earl, William, Oscar and Ernie Hangsleben and one sister: Lorraine.

Clark E. Hartwig

1944-2008

January 4, 1944 - February 5, 2008

Clark "Bear Tracks" Hartwig, 64, formally of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday ~ February 5th, 2008 in MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

Clark E. Hartwig was born January 4, 1944 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Marjorie (Hasenbush) Hartwig.

Clark grew up and attended school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, when he was 14 years old. Clark attended and graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School and then went on and attended Aaker's Business College in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Clark worked 2 years at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. In 1964 Clark went to work for the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

In 1968 he married Myra Raymond and they had two children, Philip and Dennis. On March 5, 1994 he was united in marriage to Sherry Dugan at Family of God Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Clark retired in January of 1999 from the United States Postal Service and then in 2002 moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, and made their home. Traveling (especially to Duluth, Minnesota) and taking Sherry shopping was what Clark loved to do. He was also a great fan of Minnesota, Golden Gopher Hockey Team. Clarks favorite activities were fishing and going to the hunting cabin and watching "Deer TV" (deer feeding outside the picture window) with his son Philip and all his hunting buddies. Clark was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, son and will be missed by all who knew him.

Loving family members who survive Clark include his wife Sherry of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, sons; Philip (Shannon) Hartwig of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Dennis Hartwig of Grand Forks, North Dakota, step-children; Corey (Susan) Dugan of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Jolie (Wade) Mitchell and Jay (Jessica) Dugan both of Grand Forks, North Dakota, his mother; Marjorie (Wallace) Haney of Grand Forks, North Dakota, grandchildren; Shelby and Lynnsey Hartwig, Rachael and Christian Dugan, Stone, Zion and Jewel Mitchell, Jackson and Jordan Dugan, 2 brothers; Clarence Hartwig Jr. and David (Mary) Hartwig both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Clark and Sherry's dog "Hudson".

Clark was preceded in death by his father Clarence Hartwig.

Biography--

Dorothy Irene (Van Camp) Haake, 85, of Fisher, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Riverview Hospital, Crookston, Minnesota, in the presence of her loving husband and family.

Dorothy was born on July 25, 1922 to Fred and Mary (McKibbin) Van Camp at home in St. Thomas, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Thomas Methodist Church and graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1940. She moved with her family to rural Fisher, Minnesota, where she met her future husband.

Dorothy and Virgil Haake were united in marriage on July 2, 1944 in the Bethel Presbyterian Church of rural East Grand Forks, Minnesota. They farmed in rural Fisher, Minnesota. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and Lydia-Ruth Circle of Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Dorothy is survived by her husband: Virgil, Fisher, Minnesota; three children: Lynn (Laurel), Fisher, Minnesota, Loren (Deb), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Jill (Douglas) Gregoire, East Grand Forks, Minnesota; grandchildren: Kyle (Amy), Noel (Cheri), Jeremy, Max (Ashley), Seth, Aaron, Noelle and Adam; great grandchildren: Danielle and Jayden; brother: Ronald Van Camp, Grand Forks, North Dakota, and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Lois (Harvey) Saldin and brother: Clare Van Camp.

In lieu of flowers memorials to Wesley United Methodist Church.

Bradley S. Hart, 31, of Las Vegas, Nevada, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 13, 2007. Bradley Steven Hart was born October 27, 1976 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of Larry and Frances (Clark) Hart. He attended schools in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and graduated from Clearfield Job Corp Center in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1995. He worked as a taxi driver in California for several years before returning to East Grand Forks last year.

He was a special person who brought fun and laughter to his family and friends. Brad will be dearly missed by the many people whose lives he touched.

Brad is survived by his father and step mother Larry and Vicki Hart of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 1 sister Stacie Hart of Lincoln, CA, 1 niece Sophie Hart of Lincoln, CA, 1 step brother Chad (Amber) Bechhold of Gulfport, Mississippi, maternal grandparents, Joe and Donna Clark of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his mother Frances Hart, paternal grandparents, Earl and Donna Hart and 1 Aunt Debbie Lund.

Marion L. Hagen, 76, formally of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2007, at the Aspen Meadows Nursing Home in Billings, Montana.

Marion Louise Hagen was born on July 11, 1930 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Harmsen) Schulz. Marion grew up near the Sherack, Minnesota, area, and graduated from East Grand Forks, High School. She worked at Eddy's Cafe, Singer Sewing Machine Company as a Seamstress. On November 7, 1950 Marion was united in marriage to Melvin Hagen in Tabor, Minnesota. In May of 1994 they moved to Billings Montana.

Cherished family members of Marion include sons; Richard (Cindy) Hagen of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Steve (Lori) Hagen of Billings, Montana, daughter; Marlyne (Tom) Campbell of Townsend, Montana, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Marion is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Melvin on June 23, 1997, brothers; Art, Kenneth, David and one infant brother.

Vernon Donald Hecht

1925-2008

November 15, 1925 - June 23, 2008

Vernon Donald Hecht, 82, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died peacefully at Valley Eldercare, on June 23, 2008.

Vernon Hecht was born November 15, 1925 to William and Delima (Cole) Hecht in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated in 1943. On January 8, 1946, Vernon was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Jeffrey. They began their life together in East Grand Forks, and had twelve children. Vernon worked hard all his life. He worked for the railroad for more than 20 years before being employed by St. Hilaire Supply. He also worked for The Brothers Mobile Home Sales and HH&K Builders. Vernon served the community as a volunteer fire fighter for over 20 years. He was also active in the Eagles Club. In 1989, after Vernon retired, he and his wife moved to their lake home at Maple Lake, Minnesota. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards surrounded by family and friends. He spent his days relaxing, hunting and fishing. In 2004, they moved back to East Grand Forks where they lived together at Town Square Apartments.

Vernon is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth; eleven children: Diane Vonasek, Terry (Kathy) Hecht, John "Jack" (Sandy) Hecht, Donald (Roxy) Hecht, Michael (Patti) Hecht, Anita (Brent) Kemnitz, Mary (Cliff) Overvold, Brenda (Mark) Moore, Bruce (Marci) Hecht, Alyce (Eric) Lord, Gail Flom; 30 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Beatrice (Raymond) Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents; half sister, Marie (Raymond) Hoglo; two half brothers, Francis and Ralph Raymond; one son, Patrick; and his beloved dog, Fluffy.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Visitation: Friday, June 27, 2008 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Stennes Funeral Home, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Burial: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Biography--

Dorothy Hann, 80, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at the Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Dorothy I. Hann was born on February 24, 1928 in Cotesfield, Nebraska the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Tatlow) Keep. She attended nursing school in Grand Island, NE. She married Harry Hann on February 18, 1948 in York, NE. They farmed for 10 years in the Grand Island, NE area and moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, in 1965. She worked for the Valley Memorial Homes as a nurse for 8 years. In 1976 she started working for American Crystal Sugar Company in East Grand Forks until her retirement. She was an avid sports fan and great supporter of all her grandchildren's activities.

She is survived by three children; Ronald (Susan) Hann, Crookston, Minnesota, Linda (Dr. Stephen) Olsen, Willmar, Minnesota, Sandy (Michael) Dobmeier, Grand Forks, North Dakota; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson and several nieces and nephews, 1 brother Allen (Betty) Keep of St. Paul, NE, 1 sister Marie (Don) Rasmussen of Hastings, NE, and 1 sister in law Ilene Keep of Wichita Falls, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry on Dec. 17, 2006, two brothers, Vernum Keep, Leonard Keep, and two sisters, Lois Schneider and Ada VanWinkle.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Stennes Funeral Home Chapel, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service on Friday, August 15, 2008 in Stennes Funeral Home and one hour prior to the Funeral Service.

Interment: Resurrection Cemetery, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Gladys Clarice (Risteigen) Haarstad

1908-2009

Biography--

Gladys Haarstad, 100, of Crookston, Minnesota, formerly of Newfolden, Minnesota, died Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Center, Crookston, Minnesota.

Gladys Clarice Risteigen was born May 10, 1908 at Oslo, Minnesota, the daughter of Thorsten and Thora (Thorstenson) Risteigen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended and graduated from Oslo High School and Mayville North Dakota, Teachers Training. She was united in marriage to Hans Haarstad on March 9, 1935 in Viking, Minnesota. The couple farmed in Marsh Grove and Foldahl Townships, Marshall County, Minnesota, until they retired in 1970, when they moved into Newfolden, Minnesota. Hans passed away April 12, 1987, and she continued to reside there until January of 1997, when she moved into Valley Home, Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and in November of 2002 to the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, Minnesota.

She was a longtime member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in rural Newfolden where she taught Sunday School, and was active in Ladies Aid and was an Honorary member of ALCW. She made many quilts for her family and church missions. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and spending time outdoors, especially fishing.

She will be lovingly missed by her family of two daughters and sons-in-laws: Claudette (Winton) Forsberg of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Claudia (Dennis) Cirks of Crookston, Minnesota, 5 grandchildren, Diane (Dale) Surprenant, Mark Forsberg, Michael (Diana) Cirks, Jodi (Brett) Carter and Rebecca (Dan) Cymbaluk, 14 great-grandchildren, Kate, Matthew, Nicole and Britnee Surprenant, Casie (Dana) Coulter, Cody and Tanner Cirks, Krystyna, Anna and Zachary Cymbaluk, David (Andrea) Forsberg, Bethany Forsberg, Paige and Maren Carter, sister Ruth Liedber of Goodridge, Minnesota, and brother A.W. (Peggy) Risteigen of Oslo, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.

Biography--

Dennis Hanson, 66 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family.

Dennis Myron Hanson was born on March 1, 1943 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Julius and Evelyn (Skrogstad) Hanson. Denny grew up and attended rural school, graduating with the Class of 1961 from High School in Kerkhoven, Minnesota. He then attended Wilmar Community College learning the trade of Auto Mechanic. He then went on and attended the Minnesota, School of Business in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He married Ann Gustafson and to this union had two children, Angela and Tracy. He began working as an Auto Mechanic at Hansord Pontiac Dealership in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Denny then moved to Montevideo, Minnesota, where he owned and operated a service station. Denny met Barbara J. Agre at a support group for widowers & divorced in Montevideo, Minnesota. They moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, in 1988 where they both attended the University of North Dakota. On March 16, 1991 Denny was united in marriage to Barbara in Grand Forks. Denny started his own business of doing remodeling work until his retirement due to ill health.

Family members who survive Denny include his wife Barbara of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, children: Angela (Dan) Hanson and their children, Krista and Nicole of Eagan, Minnesota, Kyle (Rachael) Agre and their children Amelia and Anthony of Fargo, North Dakota, Stacy (Jason) Amundson and their children Noah, Natalie and Nicholas of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Tracy (Dean) Jaycox and their children Andrew and Caleb of Pipestone, Minnesota, Kristin (Jody) Beauchamp and their children Davis, Connor and Garret of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; one brother Richard Hanson; mother-in-law: Bernice Norman.

Shane M. Higdem, age 39 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home.

Shane Michael Higdem was born on May 26, 1972 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of Raymond and Mary (Bondy) Higdem. Shane grew up and lived in the Grand Forks and East Grand Forks area his entire life. On December 28, 2000 he was united in marriage to Margie Gangelhoff in Grand Forks.

Life Legacy--

Arlene M. Hoaas, age 86, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston, Minnesota.

Arlene M. Hoaas was born on April 12, 1926 the daughter of John and Olga (Olson) Ranum in Rosewood, Minnesota. Arlene grew up in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and worked for Montgomery Wards department store in Thief River Falls until she married Lester R. Hoaas on October 3, 1952. They moved around the area as Les was in the construction industry.

Arlene was a homemaker until 1960 when she became employed with Norby's Department Store in Grand Forks, North Dakota. In 1963 she began work for the 1st National Bank as a teller then a bookkeeper until her retirement in April of 1986. Sadly on June 16th, 1975 Les passed away due to ALS. Arlene continued to live in East Grand Forks until moving to the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, Minnesota.

She loved to sew, ceramics, rosemaling, and oil painting and especially being with her grandkids and great-grandchildren. Arlene is survived by her daughter, Mary Don (Larry) Krostue of Fisher, Minnesota, 1 grandson, Jim (Maxx) Krostue and grand-son-in-law, Pete Senger; 4 great-grandchildren, Dustin and Morgan of Grand Lake, CO, Hunter and Clay Senger of Burnsville, Minnesota, 1 brother, Ferrl (Ann) Ranum of Thief River, Falls, Minnesota, along with many in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; granddaughter, Teresa Senger; brothers, Sherwin, Myron, Lloyd, Ray and Orrin; sister Junice Sannes.

Karen Jean (Krostue) Hunt

Life Legacy

Karen Jean Hunt, 68, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Robinson, Illinois, peacefully left this world for another after courageously battling breast cancer, on Thursday, April 11th, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, NE.

Karen was born to Manvel (Skid) Romain and Jean Eleanor (Sorenson) Krostue on July 10th, 1944 in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

She grew up on the beloved family farm in Bygland, Minnesota, a place she truly adored, and attended the Bygland Township Country School until high school. After graduating from East Grand Forks Senior High in 1962, she attended classes at the University of North Dakota, majoring in Home Economics.

In 1966 she married Robert W. (Bob) Gillies with whom she was blessed three children. They parted ways after ten years together but remained close until his death in 2003. She married Raymond A. (Tony) Hunt, who also had three children, in May of 1982, and they had one daughter together. They spent nearly thirty one wonderful loving years together.

Karen was a beautiful woman with a genuine love of people, who welcomed anyone into her heart and home. Her smile was pure, comforting, and contagious. Throughout her life she shared her many talents with those around her, including canning, making jelly, sewing, cross-stitching, and most recently, scrap booking. She loved to cook for her family and friends and she never failed to please their palates. She raised her children to be kind and generous to others, to put family first with love and forgiveness, be honest, be true to yourself, and live by the golden rule. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a wise, gentle, and nurturing presence in their lives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Manvel and Jean, first husband and close friend, Bob, and a son, Allan Joseph Hunt.

She is survived by her husband, Tony, children Lynda (Marty) Krueger, Lincoln, NE, Kathy (Darin) Barker, Grand Forks, North Dakota, Michael (Tanya) Gillies, East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Jenna (Jeff) Lutz, Grand Forks, North Dakota, Carrie (Rick) Root, Watertown, NY, Krista Hunt, Watertown, NY, 11 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Roger Krostue, Nancy (Richard) Zalewski and Cheryl (Brad) Tupa all of Fisher, Minnesota.

Joyce E. Hess, 62, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Merit Care Hospital, Fargo, North Dakota.

Joyce was born August 24, 1945, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Dougal and Helen (Miller) McIntosh. She grew up and attended school in Grand Forks. She moved to Montana were she married Lavern Risberg and they had five children. She moved back to Grand Forks. She married Rodney Hess on July 17, 1981 in Crookston, Minnesota. She worked for Simplot for 17 years until her retirement. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren, fishing and pets.

She is survived by her husband Rodney of Grand Forks, mother Helen Thompson of Grand Forks, children, Kevin McIntosh of Fargo, Kimberly Risberg of Bismarck, North Dakota, and Keith (Jennifer) Risberg of Grand Forks, 8 grandchildren, 1 sister Margaret Hiltz of Grand Forks and 1 brother Douglas McIntosh, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Jack Hangsleben was born Feb. 2, 1935 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the son of Walter and Viola (Gosch) Hangsleben. He grew up in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School. He married Madeline "Bobby" Stallman in Rapid City, SD on December 26, 1964. They farmed their entire life in the East Grand Forks area.

Alice Hanson was born on March 18, 1940, in Hoople, North Dakota, the daughter of Arthur and Rose (Springan) Hanson. Alice worked for St. Michael's, United Hospital and Altru Health Systems for over 45 years in the mail room. She was active at United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks and enjoyed sewing, gardening and baking.

Alice is survived by numerous family members and an array of friends along with her beloved Shih Tzu's, Harold and Olaf.

Alice will be missed by all who knew her.

Biography--

Lyle Hoff age 86 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Valley Eldercare Center with his family at his side.

Lyle Hoff was born on June 9, 1926 on the family farm north of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, the son of Olof and Anna (Thompson) Hoff. He attended East Grand Forks Senior High School. As a young man he worked on the family farm with his cousins from "across the field" which he was close to his entire life. He then joined the United States Army in September of 1950, serving during the Korean War. He returned to East Grand Forks and then began employment with American Crystal Sugar Company as a machinist for 43 years. Lyle was united in marriage to Donna Fischer on July 7, 1957 in the Grand Marias Church north of East Grand Forks. The same church of which he was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member.

Lyle enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and local sports, he especially loved East Grand Forks hockey and was an original member of the Blue-Line Club. Lyle also volunteered many hours helping with construction of the Civic Center. He was a member of the Masons, Eagles, American Legion, and a 60-year member of the VFW. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family, grandchildren and visiting with friends.

Survivors include his wife Donna of East Grand Forks; daughter, Kim Wolff of Bemidji, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kari Wolff of San Diego, CA, Kaitlin Wolff (Peter Abel) of Red Lodge, MT and Ryan Wolff of St. Cloud, Minnesota; brother, O. Howard (Agnes) Hoff of East Grand Forks; sisters, Ruth McMahon of East Grand Forks and Shirley (Marlin) Gulden of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Biography--

Doris Luann Hustad (Hanson), 78, East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died June 14, 2011 with her children by her side.

Doris Luann Hanson was born February 18th 1933 in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, the daughter of Andrew and Carrie (Karin Thureen) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks.

Doris was a graduate of East Grand Forks Central High School in 1950, where she participated in many activities. Doris attended Concordia College (Moorhead, Minnesota) where in 1954, she graduated with a degree in Home Economics. She was active in many organizations and garnered life-long friendships from her time there.

Doris taught Home Economics in Battle Lake, Minnesota, and Fergus Falls, Minnesota. After 21 years as a Dietary Technician in the Human Nutrition Research Center at the University of North Dakota, she retired in 2003. The family also resided in Mankato, Minnesota, and Willmar, Minnesota.

Whichever city she lived in there was one constant, her active participation in her church. From planting flowers and chairing the craft bazaar to being Sunday School Superintendant and council member, Doris enjoyed serving. She was also an active member of Eastern Star. Doris was a creative and talented seamstress, liked playing games, flower gardening and anything Swedish. Mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Doris was a deeply caring, kind and loving mother , grandmother and friend. She was very involved and supportive of all her children's and grandchildren's activities. Her unconditional love and support will be greatly missed.

Doris is survived by her children, Kari (Brian) Carr of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and Matthew (Maren) Hustad of Dayton, Minnesota; grandsons Tyler (Krista) Hustad of Lonsdale, Minnesota, Jason (Elizabeth) Hustad of Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Kirby (Annie) Carr of Shoreview, Minnesota, Brandon (Elizabeth) Carr of Plymouth, Minnesota, and granddaughters Lauren and Emma Hustad of Dayton, Minnesota.; ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris is preceded in death by her son Mark Hustad, parents, and brothers Herbert (Edith) Hanson, Lawrence (Thelma) Hanson, Donald Hanson, Clifford Hanson and LeRoy Hanson.

JoAnn Evelyn Halvorson was born on September 5, 1939 the daughter of Arthur and Martha (Holweger) Carlson in Thompson, North Dakota. JoAnn grew up and attended rural elementary school in Thompson, North Dakota, and then attended Central High School in Grand Forks, graduating in 1958 On September 3, 1958 JoAnn was united in marriage to Howard Halvorson in Bygland, Minnesota. They made their home in the Bygland area where they farmed and had various jobs throughout her life and resided there until she entered the Valley Memorial Homes, Woodside Village in 2002. JoAnn was very active in the Bygland Lutheran Church and she enjoyed spending time with family and visiting with friends.

Phillip Thoreson Hanstad

1933-2011

April 14, 1933 - October 8, 2011

Life Legacy--

Phillip Thoreson Hanstad, age 78, of Fargo, North Dakota, and formerly of Climax, Minnesota, passed away on October 8 at Villa Maria in Fargo.

Phil was born on April 14, 1933 at Climax, Minnesota, the son of Hans and Thilda (Thoreson) Hanstad. He graduated from Climax High School. He married Karen Johnson in Crookston, Minnesota, on May 18, 1957. He worked for Red Owl, Ernest Eissner Construction, and Lutheran Brotherhood. On April 30, 1971 he was united in marriage to Arla Robertsdahl in Hickson, North Dakota. They lived in Christine, North Dakota, where Phil operated a grocery store and served as mayor before they moved to Fargo in 1985.

They moved to Phil's family farm at Climax in 1998 and returned to Fargo in 2008. Phil was employed at Fargo Tank/FTC Building Materials for 25 years, and, after retiring in 1995, he worked at Eddie Bauer in Fargo for 6 years.

Family members of Phil include his wife, Arla, of Fargo, children Bruce (Linda) Hanstad of Alexandria, Minnesota, Keith (Jacqueline) Hanstad of Zimmerman, Minnesota, Roger (Teresa) Hanstad of Burnsville, Minnesota, Juli (Martin) Tubby of Climax, Minnesota, and Amy (John) Watkin of Fargo, North Dakota; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Ruth Hanstad, Alpha Gjestrum, and Benora Kleven; brothers Howard and Orville Hanstad.

Elsie Louise (Mack) Kotrba

1918-2014

Life Legacy--

Elsie Louise (Mack) Kotrba of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and formerly of Sherack/Tabor, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Elsie was born on May 2, 1918 to the late John and Mary (Gust) Mack at their farm home in Sullivan Township, Minnesota. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Tabor, where she was baptized, confirmed. She attended Pleasantview Country School through the 8th grade. She was married to Jacob Kotrba on June 8, 1943 and from this union were born six children.

Elsie lived all her life in the Sherack/Tabor community on the farm she and Jake purchased shorty after they were married. They lived there until their retirement in November 2003 when they moved to a townhome in Grand Forks, North Dakota and stayed there until Jake's passing in December, 2008. Afterwards she moved to the Good Samaritan (Maples) in East Grand Forks, Minnesota until August, 2010 when she had to be transferred to Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, North Dakota where she spent her remaining years.

She enjoyed entertaining, especially having family gatherings where she could cook big meals and bake, especially her delicious kolaches for which she was widely known.

Elsie is survived by her children, Duane (Judy) Kotrba of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; Bonita Griffin of Arlington, TX; Jacob (Diane) Kotrba, of Fargo, North Dakota; Barbara Holen of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; Mary (Bruce) Hanson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and Linda (Gary) Ottoboni of San Mateo, CA; her 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerome (Bea) Mack of Grand Forks, North Dakota and Clarence Mack of Orange, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob, her parents, brothers, Frank and George Mack, and sisters, Margaret Kluzak and Jean Honek.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be directed to the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery Fund, Tabor, Minnesota.

Cleo Ann (Nelson) Kelly

1916-2013

Biography--

Cleo A. Kelly, age 97, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, April 14th, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in East Grand Forks with her family at her side.

Cleo Ann Kelly was born on February 28, 1916 in Larimore, North Dakota, the daughter of Howard and Louise (Foubert) Nelson. Cleo grew up in East Grand Forks and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School graduating with the Class of 1933. On September 5, 1938 she was united in marriage to Howard Kelly in East Grand Forks. Cleo worked at Home of Economy for a number of years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was a volunteer with Sacred Heart's Women's Ministry and also the community of East Grand Forks. Sadly on April 18, 1994 Howard passed away. Cleo lived the last 8 years at the Good Samaritan in East Grand Forks. Cleo was well loved and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Karen Corbid of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Bill (Patricia) Kelly of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tim (Judy) Kelly of Shakopee, Minnesota, Colleen (Kenneth) Breker of St. Joseph, Minnesota, Keith and John Kelly both of Grand Forks, North Dakota; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Cleo is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Kelly; sisters, Alice, Corrine and Eva; brothers, J. Del and H. Boyd; son-in-law, Ben Corbid "The friendly Funeral Home Consultant" and a great-grandson, Nolan Corbid.

Memorials preferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Good Samaritan Heritage Grove, or the East Grand Forks food shelf.

George Kalliokoski

1930-2013

Life Legacy--

George Kalliokoski of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died on Monday, August 26, 2013 at his home in the company of his wife and daughter, Angela, under the care of Hospice at the age of 83 years.

George was born in Brocket, North Dakota, on June 5, 1930, the fifteenth child of Herman and Anna Reinie Kalliokoski. He attended school in Brocket and then earned a degree in teaching and coaching at Mayville State Teachers College. He enlisted in the United States Army after graduation and spent most of his military time at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, working at Brooke Army Hospital.

Following his military service, George secured a teaching position in Alvarado, Minnesota. He later completed a master's degree in physical education from the University of North Dakota. He also taught and coached in Michigan, North Dakota, Greenbush, Minnesota and Sacred Heart School of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. He later worked at Home of Economy of Grand Forks as a sporting goods salesman.

On June 10, 1961 George married Phyllis Mae Henrickson in Tabor, Minnesota. Together they raised four children. They enjoyed some memorable Canadian fishing trips as well as other travels around the United States. George was a carpenter on the side and built the family's home in East Grand Forks as well as many other projects, large and small. He always did his best in every job that he undertook and he admired that quality in others.

George is preceded in death by his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his son Philip and wife Annette of Warren, Minnesota, his daughters, Angela Kalli of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Stephanie Christiansen of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, her children, Cole, Kiah, Kendra and Selah, and Sarah Bandimere, her husband, David of Kansas City, MO and their children, Yana, Adam, Lily, Jadon, Grace and Kaikai as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectively asks that memorials be given to Altru Hospice.

Ralph Kringlen

1923-2009

Life Legacy--

Ralph Kringlen, age 86, passed on to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 22, 2009. Ralph and his wife had recently moved back to East Grand Forks, Minnesota from their home near Elbow Lake, Minnesota.

Ralph Kringlen was born on October 23, 1923, the sixth of eleven children, on a farm near Hatton, North Dakota the son of John and Anne Kringlen.

He married his devoted wife, Evelyn Thompson, in Hatton, North Dakota on July 27, 1952. After marriage they raised their family and resided in Grand Forks, North Dakota for 11 years and then East Grand Forks, Minnesota for 32 years before retiring to their home near Elbow Lake, Minnesota. Ralph worked for Greenberg, C.L. Linfoot and Lutheran Brotherhood for 27 years. In 1979, he partnered in the start up of Northern Roofing which continued until his retirement. He loved spending time with family and friends, teaching his grandchildren to golf, and visiting over a cup of coffee.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Evelyn of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and children: Alan (Cindy) of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Alana Thureen (Scott) of Lakeville, Minnesota, Carol Lindor (Stewart), Karl (Renee) of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers: John of Baker, OR and Bob of Larimore, North Dakota and sisters: Ruth Kvernen of Portland, North Dakota, Kay Voiss of Park Rapids, Minnesota and Phyllis Eng of Portland, North Dakota.

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents; son: Daniel; brothers: Henry, Donny and Phillip; sisters: Sylvia Haastad and Amy Haugen.

JoAnn Ivey, 70, passed way on Friday, June 12th, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Larimore, North Dakota.

JoAnn Kay Meagher was born on June 21, 1938 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Thomas and Evelyn (Johnson) Meagher. Joann grew up and attended school in East Grand Forks, Minnesota graduating with the Class of 1956. On May 2, 1959 she was united in marriage to Roland Ivey in Riverside, CA. Joann was employed with Bell Telephone Company in Riverside, CA. In 1965 they moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota where she was employed with American Crystal Sugar Company.

JoAnn loved to read, play bingo and especially stay up late playing 6-5-4 with her granddaughters. She loved being surrounded by family, friends and talking for hours on end. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Biography--

Mary Lou Jerik, age 73 of Crookston, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, Minnesota.

Mary Lou was born to the late Emil and Margaret (Goosen) Jerik on April 11, 1941 in Crookston, Minnesota. She grew up in the Key West and Euclid area. Lived most of her life in a Group Home, attended the Crookston DAC until recently the Riverview Adult Day Care.

Mary Lou is survived by her brother Robert (Dorothy) Jerik of East Grand Forks, special cousins Jessie and John Rodseth; nieces, nephews and many Group Home friends and her special cat Kitty-Kitty.

She is predeceased by her parents and sister, Mildred Cariveau.

Betty Louise (Kelley) Johnson

1935-2012

January 5, 1935 - November 21, 2012

Betty Louise was born on January 5th, 1935, to Ed and Dora (Phillips) Kelley at Seminole, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school in Cordell, Oklahoma. Betty married Rudolf Zwingel on October 26, 1954 in Oklahoma City. Betty and Rudolf made their home in Bethany, Oklahoma. Betty moved to Springfield, Illinois with Rudolf while he was in Lutheran seminary. They then lived in Langdon North Dakota, Pine Island New York, Pinawa Manitoba, Estevan Saskatchewan, and Warman Saskatchewan serving Lutheran churches. After Rudolf died in 1981 she moved to Kenmare North Dakota.

Betty started a career in banking as a teller in 1981 at Midwest Federal in Kenmare. She later became the manager of the BNC National Bank (former Midwest Federal). She retired from BNC National Bank in 2000.

Betty served on the Kenmare Community Development board, the Nazareth Lutheran Church Council, church choir, and president of the Kenmare Lions Club. In 2002, Betty moved to Rugby, North Dakota to be closer to family. Betty was active in the First Lutheran church choir and the Rugby Lions Club. Betty enjoyed reading books, singing in church, watching old movies, and visiting with family and friends.

Betty married Don Johnson on February 28, 2004 at First Lutheran Church in Rugby, North Dakota. They made their home in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Homer Kelley, Vernon Kelley, Glen Kelley.

Betty is survived by her husband: Don; children: David (Deb) Zwingel of Rugby, North Dakota, Kathy (David) Patterson of Allentown, PA, Jon (Larissa) Zwingel of Petersburg, Russia; stepchildren: Cindy (Mark) Rice, Tom (Shelley) Johnson, Cherie (Dean) Stoltman, all of Grand Forks, North Dakota; 12 grandchildren; 12 great --grandchildren; and sibling Rex (Margaret) Kelley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Betty passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Altru Hospital at the age of 77.

Betty J. Johnson, 83, formerly of East Grand Forks, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at her home in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Betty Jane Hanson was born on March 24, 1925 in Drayton, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Marie (Erickson) Hanson.

Betty grew up in the Drayton and Robin area of North Dakota and graduated from Drayton High School. On July 20, 1944 she was united in marriage to Willard Johnson in Drayton, North Dakota. She farmed with her husband in the Stephen, Minnesota area and worked at the Grafton Hospital. In 1968 they moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota where she managed the Plaza Motel. Betty worked at St. Michael's Hospital and also United Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota retiring on December 20th, 1983. In 1995 she moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota. Willard Johnson preceded her in death on April 14, 1996.

Family members who survive Betty include her children; Sharon (Giles) Mack of Branson, MO, Jerry (Nancy) Johnson of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Janie Lapka of Brainard, Minnesota and Ned Johnson of Eagan, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Mary Ann (Keith) Young of St. Thomas, North Dakota and Sylvia Leverson of Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Gilmore Klaven

Gilmore Klaven, 84, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 surrounded by his family

Gilmore was born August 9, 1929 in Gatzke, Minnesota, to the late Olaf and Alma (Johnson) Klaven. He attended rural school and worked for numerous farms in the Gatzke area. He also worked on an ore boat on Lake Superior for a number of years before joining the US Army in 1947 and serving honorably until his discharge in 1953. After his discharge he worked for Bridgeman Creamery in Thief River Falls, Minnesota and Grand Forks, North Dakota.

During this time he met Lorraine Meyer and they were married on November 13, 1954 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. After a few years, the family moved to Hibbing, Minnesota where he worked for EJ Longyear, Core Drilling Company for the next 30 years until his retirement in 1991. Afterwards he worked part time for Dwaine Olson in Hibbing, Minnesota doing carpentry. In 1998 they moved back to East Grand Forks, Minnesota where Gilmore worked for Scott and Jeep Mattson during harvest.

Gilmore is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lorraine Klaven of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, 7 children: Darrell (Delinda) Klaven of Bemidji, Minnesota; Randy Klaven of Keewatin, Minnesota; Roger (Wendy) Klaven of Side Lake, Minnesota; Rodney Klaven of Keewatin, Minnesota; Nancy Klaven of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; and Tracey (Scott) Mattson of East grand Forks, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters Marie Bimler of Grand Forks, North Dakota and Audrey (Wendell) Tiegland of Thief River Falls, Minnesota as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gilmore is predeceased by his son Douglas Klaven, parents and siblings: Clayton, Bennie, and Pearl.

Dale Lyle Jeffrey

1945-2014

Dale Lyle Jeffrey, 68, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, passed away at home after a long battle with cancer with his family at his side on January 24, 2014.

Dale was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on September 6, 1945 to Ardell and Lorraine (Peterson) Jeffrey and spent his life growing up and raising his family in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Dale graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High and then started farming with his father and other family members. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He retired from farming in 1994 then began driving truck with his son, and also drove for TranSystems. Dale married his bride Jean Deziel in February 17, 1968. Dale loved spending time with family & friends. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren which he called some of his "Best Friends". Dale will be remembered by his smile, generosity and sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, sons Bob, and Paul (Jennifer) Jeffrey, daughter Lisa (Seth) Brown and his treasured grandsons Ryan Osowski, Wade, Tyler, Stetson, Austin and Brayden Jeffrey, Bauer, Tucker and Easton Brown; Mother, Lorraine Jeffrey, sisters Melody (James) Nord, Carol (Bob) Geddes, Lanna (Dick) Piker; Brothers Lonnie (Jackie) Jeffrey and Steven (Heather) Jeffrey. He is preceded in death by his infant son Gregory, and father Ardell.

Patricia (Cariveau) Iverson

Patricia Iverson, 65, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota died on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at her home in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Patricia Cariveau was born on September 24, 1943 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of William and Myrtle (Bakken) Cariveau. Patricia grew up and attended school in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, graduating in the class of 1961 from Sacred Heart High School. She attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

On May 11, 1968 she was united in marriage to Arnold Iverson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Patricia stayed home as a devoted and loving mother while her three children were growing up. After her children had grown she went to work part-time at the Campbell Library. Patricia loved to socialize, watch or attend sporting events, and keep up on the activities of her extended family. Most of all, she cherished spending time with her own family and beloved grandchildren. Most notable is Patricia's commitment to the care and love of her daughter, Susan.

Raymond Joe Korynta

Biography--

Raymond Joe Korynta, 69, of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, died Tuesday, November 6th, 2012 at Altru Hospital.

Raymond was born April 2nd, 1943 near Manvel, North Dakota, the son of Walter and Alvina (Czapiewski) Korynta. He attended school in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He served in the US Army in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in May 1973.

He married Delores Lunski on October 4, 1973 in Crookston, Minnesota. He worked various jobs, such as Plant Supervisor, at Concrete Inc., drove truck, worked construction, and handyman services.

Raymond loved to do wood crafts, play cards, and spend time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Raymond is survived by his beloved wife, Delores of East Grand Forks; his children: Len (Gloria) Franz, Grand Forks, Tammy (Rocky) Rockwell, Larimore, North Dakota; DeeAnn (Josh) Boushee, East Grand Forks; Laurie Korynta, East Grand Forks; grandchildren: Kendra, Brooklyn, Levi, Aleaha, Jimmy, Scott, Jack, Beau, Sam, Benny and Serena. Two Brothers: Donnie (Sharon) Korynta and Larry (Marie) Korynta, both of Portland, OR; sisters: Marion (George) Sattler, Grand Forks; Lorraine (Wally) Goetz, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Dorothy, Delores, and Dalphine.

Frances (Lee) Johnson

1932-2008

June 24, 1932 - July 10, 2008

Frances Johnson, 76 of Euclid, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Frances Mary Johnson was born on June 24, 1932 in Crookston, Minnesota, the daughter of Willard and Mary (Bergland) Lee.

Fran grew up and attended schools in Crookston, Minnesota, and graduated from Crookston Central High School. She worked as a clerk while in school at the Woolworth's Department Store in Crookston, Minnesota. On June 24, 1952 Fran was united in marriage to Leo Johnson at the Presbyterian Church in Crookston, Minnesota. After their marriage, they lived and farmed near Euclid, Minnesota.

Fran fought a courageous battle of Alzheimer's disease. At the time of her death she was surrounded by her family. All were extremely amazed at her strength in fighting the battle.

Fran was a woman of commitment and loyalty. She was a true example of what it meant to love family, work hard and bless others. She always made time to be there for her children and grandchildren. It didn't matter what the activity was, she was always there with an encouraging word from the bleachers or a hug at the end.

Fran loved going shopping with her grandkids, making ceramics for her family, cooking, baking, playing cards, dancing, going to the casino, and going to her lake home on Wabedo Lake in Minnesota.

It was very important to Fran to travel to town to get her hair styled every Friday -- rain or shine and in any weather. She took great pride in always looking nice and nail care was very important to her.

Words cannot describe how much she will be missed. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, and friend in the world.

Fran was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Euclid, Minnesota where she was Past President of the Ladies Aid and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Family members who survive Fran include her husband: Leo Johnson of Euclid, Minnesota; sons: Allen (Fiancee: Dorothy Halliday) of Ardoch, North Dakota, Randy Johnson (Fiancee: Lorrie Attanasio) of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Michael (Mary) Johnson of East Grand Forks, Minnesota and Mark (Rose) Johnson of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; step-daughter: Diane (Scott) Johnson of Little Falls, Minnesota; 8 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 1 sister: Bessie (John) Anderson of Crookston, Minnesota; 1 brother: Daniel (Kay) Lee of Plymouth, Minnesota.

Preceding Fran in death is her parents; brothers: Glenn, Samuel and Wilbert Lee; sisters: Ruth Hagemeister, Hazel Fahey, Florence Tate and Margie Brooks.

The family plans to donate all memorials to Alzheimer's Research.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Monday, July 14th, 2008 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Fisher, Minnesota

Interment: St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Euclid, Minnesota
