William Frank Broekemeier

December 8, 1927 - June 15, 2013

Life Legacy--

William F. Broekemeier age 85 of East Grand Forks, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks.

William Frank Broekemeier was born on December 8, 1927 in Northwood, North Dakota the son of William and Nora (Halverson) Broekemeier. He grew up in Twin Valley and Cass Lake, Minnesota graduating from Cass Lake High School.

He served his country in the United States Navy. On September 30, 1951 he was united in marriage to Arlene Winters in Crookston, Minnesota. They lived in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. He worked for the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1987.

Dad was known for his "diaries" that he had kept since 1950. First starting out to log his rail trips and special events in his life, his little black book became the source of information for family and friends on the "who, what, where and when" of events.

There were not many sporting events in East Grand Forks that Dad missed. His biggest love was hockey, and to those who attended the games it was the "touk" he wore on his head that signified his support of the Green Wave.

Stoney Point in Cass Lake was his favorite place to be in the summer. He was the ambassador and welcome committee for the entire campground. He loved hearing everyone's stories, and sharing his. Mom and Dad summered there from 1980 until 2010, when health issues became a factor for them.

When Dad and Mom bought their home on 13th in 1954, little did they know what an amazing neighborhood it would become. The neighborhood created lasting family friendships, with laughter and memories that are still there today.

William is survived by his wife Arlene of East Grand Forks; children, Terry Fore of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Brenda (Don) Rysavy of Bismarck, North Dakota, Linda (James) Weber of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and William W. (Cyndi) Broekemeier of Fargo, North Dakota; siblings James (Delores) Broekemeier of Cass Lake, Minnesota, Charles Broekemeier of Cross Lake, Minnesota, and Bonnie (Brian) Isaacson of Nevis, Minnesota; grandchildren, Matt (Tricia) Fore, Luke Fore, Haley (Paul) Stinar, Andrew (Alice Ospovat) Rysavy, Kathryn (Paul) Beverley, Laura Rysavy, Jesse (Amy Vanscoy) Weber, Cason (Sara Martinson) Weber, David (Jody) Kleyman, Toby Stauss, Cain (Stephanie) Stauss and Abby Stauss; great-grandchildren Corbin and Simon Rysavy, Jace, Nash, and Ned Fore, Jensen and Jameson Stinar, Dylan and Alyson Kleyman, Halle Weber, Jacob Vanscoy, and Mason Stauss.

William was preceded in death by parents, William and Nora; father and mother-in-law, Lewis and Agnes Winters; son-in-law, Darrell Fore; sister-in-law, Lois Broekemeier; and brother-in-law, Ray Sjostrand.

Marissa Leigh (Becker) Dyrdal

1997-2013

Life Legacy--

Marissa Dyrdal age 16 of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

Marissa Leigh Dyrdal was born on February 4, 1997 in Denver, CO. She is the daughter of Jamie Dyrdal and Brigette Becker. Marissa grew up in East Grand Forks where she attended East Grand Forks Senior High School. In January of 2013 she transferred to Red River High School in Grand Forks.

Marissa lived at home with her mother Brigette, brother Nick, and special friends Chris and Taylor Davis and Mr. Raleigh (her doggy). She spent a lot of time with her family and friends; she rarely missed birthday parties as she loved cake, ice cream and visiting. She was there to meet new cousins and friends as they entered this world, and she was there to say goodbye to a few as they left. She loved music and dancing and had the gift of turning any situation into a party. Marissa treasured attending the concerts of her favorite musicians.

Marissa had an infectious personality, a smile that could light up a room, and her laughter was contagious. She was a true example of being a child of God. With a heart as big as this world, the touch of her petite little hand in a time of need and her hug when she greeted you, made you feel like you were the only person in the world. Her love--so precious.

Marissa was a Wii bowling rock star (just ask anyone who played against her). More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was known for her "let's just sit and have a little visit" invites, talking on the phone, and her typical teenager "whatever" with the roll of her eyes. She will be missed dearly and remembered always.

Loving family members of Marissa include her mother: Brigette (Chris Davis), brother: Nicholas, special "sister": Taylor Davis, all of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Grandparents include: Grandma Myrna, Crookston, Minnesota; Kathy and Garland Swain, Pittsburg, MO; Carl (Cheryl Scott) Becker, Charleston, SC; Lloyd Dyrdal, Thief River Falls, Minnesota; Aunts and uncles include: Melissa (Tim) Nelson, Brainerd, Minnesota; Brent (Sarah) Dyrdal, Brainerd, Minnesota; Tony (Liz) Dyrdal, Willmar, Minnesota; Liz (Brian) Wolcott, Lakeland, FL; Chris Becker, Baton Rouge, LA. Cousins include: Faith, Ella, Brady, Chloe, Lauren and Philip; along with many friends.

Marissa is preceded in death by her father: Jamie; uncle: Jason Dyrdal, and great-grandparents: Melvin and Gladys Bakken.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at 4:00PM, with a one hour visitation prior.
