Life Legacy--
Elsie S. Benson (Achilly) of East Grand Forks, Minnesota passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

In 1945 she met Conrad Benson in New York City and they were married on April 12, 1947. After the war when he finished his service in the Navy the family moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota where they settled for the rest of their lives.
Elsie worked at well-known Whitey's restaurant in East Grand Forks for more than 30 years as a waitress and hostess. Even after retiring, she came in daily, just for the fun of it, to hand out menus. Family was extremely important to Elsie, and she would travel around the country for extended stays with her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially around holidays. Elsie was most at home in the kitchen, and loved nothing more than cooking -- especially authentic Italian food -- for friends and family. She blessed us all with her humor and wisdom. Elsie and Conrad Benson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. After they lost their home in the 1997 Red River Flood, they moved Good Samaritan Society Heritage Grove in East Grand Forks. A special thanks to the staff of Valley Eldercare where she spent her later years and Altru Hospice for their help especially during her final days.
