Died: September 05, 2011

Ruth Roed, age 82, from Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Monday, September 5th at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, Minnesota after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (September 10th) at the New Journey Church in Fosston with Pastor Skip Hansen officiating. Ruth was born April 2, 1929, in a small farm house in Leon Township, rural Clearbrook, MN, to parents Anton and Tilda (Nelson) Lindom, where she joined two older sisters Avis and Alice. At the age of a few months, due to her mother's failing health, Ruth went to live with Gustav and Marie (Malla), and two older brothers Melvin and Carl Munter in Hill River Township. Ruth helped out on the farm and attended Oakland school, rural Fosston, Minnesota. She grew up in the Christian faith and was a member of the former Asphult Lutheran Church, rural Fosston, where she taught Sunday school and served on various committees until its closing in 1969. Ruth and Lloyd also attended Salem Lutheran in McIntosh and Vernes Lutheran, northeast of McIntosh for a time. During the 1980's Ruth and Lloyd became faithful attendees at the Fosston Baptist Church.

Ruth was united in marriage to Lloyd Roed on April 8th, 1947 in Lengby, Minnesota. Lloyd and Ruth first lived in Brandsvold Township on a farm they purchased from Ruben and Ruth Tweeten. She had an amazing gift of hospitality and enjoyed hosting friends and family. Those meals included homemade buns, vegetables canned from her garden, homemade jellies and jams, and depending on the time of the year would include lutefisk and lefse.

Ruth made three trips to Norway. She loved hosting Norwegian families on the farm when Brekke Travel from Grand Forks would bring out a whole bus load. She not only gave them a tour of the farm, she would also feed them an old-fashioned farm lunch; which she did with great delight.

After her kids were older she worked at the Fosston Potato Plant, at Oklee Quilting, and at the Johnson Nursing Home in Fosston where she did cooking, activities, and she earned her TMA certification.

James Wallace Roue

1943-2009

Born: September 25, 1943
Died: December 05, 2009

U.S. Veteran

James Roue, age 66, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday (December 5th) at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (December 9th) at the Fosston Baptist Church with Pastor Skip Hansen officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post #2759 of Lengby. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com. Please consider bringing a non-perishable food item to the church on the day of the funeral for donation to the Loaves and Fishes Food Shelf in Fosston.

James Wallace Roue was born September 25, 1943, the fourth son of Clifford and Eunice Roue. He grew up and attended school at Lengby and Fosston, graduating from Fosston High School in 1961.

Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1961, and served his country for more than four years, including deployment with the Seventh Fleet in the waters off Vietnam, participating in the build up of forces in that conflict. He served as an Electrician's Mate, attaining the rank of E-5 prior to his discharge in 1967.

On July 18, 1962, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Ann Larson. Together they raised their three children, Carrie Ann, Terri Lee, and James Jay. After his discharge from the Navy, Jim returned to Fosston, and worked for a time as an electrician for Halvorson's and Corky Leikness. He moved to the Iron Range and worked for fifteen years for Erie Mining. Later, he moved to Bagley and purchased Hank Haug's wildlife museum. During this time, he also raised wolves, sold and serviced Lindsay water conditioners, and earned his real estate license.

He then worked for twenty years for Northwoods near Bemidji. After his retirement from Northwoods, Jim spent one fall on the custom combining run. Although he had done volunteer work most of his life, retirement gave him the opportunity to devote much more time to his volunteering efforts. He served as co-pastor for the Lengby Baptist Church, served as a Hospice volunteer, worked for the local group home for a time, and served as sexton at Rosehill Cemetery. Jim worked as night auditor at the Super 8, but diverted his wages to the last great passion in his life, the Loaves and Fishes Food Shelf.

His countless hours of selfless work kept the Loaves and Fishes well stocked and able to serve the needs of an ever increasing clientele when other food shelves in the area were running out of food. When Jim was recognized with the 2008 Fosston Person of the Year Award, his humble nature led him to comment that he didn't do these things for awards or glory, his reward was laid up for him in heaven.

Jim had wonderful artistic talents, and displayed them in many and varied ways, creating unique woodwork projects, cartoons and illustrations, including some that appeared in the Minneapolis Tribune. He inherited his dad's passion for the outdoors, and cherished the time he was able to spend teaching his grandchildren to hunt.

Jim Roue went to be with the Lord and Savior he served on December 5, 2009. Left to cherish his memory are Beverly, his wife of 47 years; daughters Carrie Ann (Randy) Goodwin of Tenstrike, Minnesota, and Terri Lee (Gerald) Nelson of Clearbrook, Minnesota; a son, James Jay Roue of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren: Kyle, Cameron and Alex Goodwin, Seth Sistad, and Cody and Thomas Nelson; brothers, Bob (Jean) of Greer, SC, Dick (Darlene) of Fosston, and Tom (Cindy) of Berkeley Springs, WV; sisters, Nancy (Bob) LaPine of Constantine, MI, and Judy (Jerry) Schue of Oklee, Minnesota.
