Violet Leona (Amberson) Pazdernik

1941-2008

Born: March 20, 1941

Died: April 27, 2008

Violet Pazdernik, age 67, of Erskine, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday (April 27th) at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (May 1st) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Sorum Cemetery, rural Erskine. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday (April 30th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine and sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.

Our beloved Violet was born Violet Leona Amberson at her parents home near Mentor, Minnesota on March 20, 1941, to proud parents Peder and Palma (Kind) Amberson. Although she moved several times throughout her growing years, she remained in the Mentor area. She mentioned highly and spoke often of her good friends Diane, Vivian, "Smack," and so on. She later enjoyed working as a babysitter and also at the local restaurant in Mentor in her teen years.

She very much enjoyed listening to her mother play the piano while her father played on the violin, and often her brother, Arnold, would join in. She loved to visit with her brothers, sister, nieces and nephew...and did so often...most times claiming the girls as her "sisters", as there was a very short age span between them.

Violet met her soon to be husband, Milton, at a dance hall in Mentor in 1960. The two danced their way into the future, married on February 27, 1962, and had three children, Julie, Rosie, and Milton, Jr.. Together, they enjoyed dancing, fishing, field work, working on cars (while mom watched) and making their home(s) together, first in Mahnomen, Minnesota, moving to Oklee, Minnesota (where her sister, Marie, lived at the time), and making their last move to Erskine where she and Milton would meet very special friends Carol & Gerry Swanson and their two boys, Greg and Steve. The two families became very fast and close friends and much time has been spent together ever since, including many music (jam sessions) where many meals and special times were shared.

In the 1990s, Milton and Violet rented a restaurant in West Fargo, and traveling became the norm, as Violet was the head chef in the cafe, where she met another dear friend, Rose Duescher. Violet became Rose's "Minnesota Mom" and many special memories were made and fond times were spent together with the family. Violet later owned a cafe in Newfolden, Minnesota, with Milton. She later became employed at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen as a dishwasher, where many water fights happened with her daughter, Julie, with most of them started by Violet, and many new friends were made. Much time was spent with Milton, Rosie, and Milton, Jr. where fishing was much enjoyed.

Later in life, a granddaughter, HaileeBeth Violet, came into her life and many happy times began. Violet treasured spending as much time with her granddaughter as she could, where laughter filled the room. That's grandma's baby's baby.

Violet entered the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in mid October and sadly, on April 5th (Milton, Sr.'s birthday), Julie, Rosie, and Milton, Jr. learned that Violet had cancer. She lost her battle to cancer on Sunday, April 27, 2008.

She sadly leaves behind her two daughters, Julie (James) Gevik of Fertile, Minnesota, Rosie Pazdernik (future son-in-law, Jeramiah Keller) of Erskine, Minnesota; and son, Milton Pazdernik, Jr. (fiance, Shelley Rowley and her two sons, Mike and Cody) and one granddaughter, HaileeBeth Violet of Euclid, Minnesota; two brothers, Palmer Amberson of Solway, Minnesota and Alvin (Ella) Amberson of Bemidji, Minnesota; special friends, "The Swansons", Paul Warmsbecker and family, Rose Duescher, Jyll Gudvangen and Mariah Gudvangen and Joann King and many nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

She once again dances with and happily joins her husband, Milton, Sr. in the red dress he made for her; one unborn infant son, David; her parents; sisters, Marie, Juliea, and Cecilia; and brothers, Morris, Arnold, and Walter; several friends; a niece, Irene (and husband, Ordean) Larson, and nephew-in-law, Harold Keeler.

If we have left anyone or anything out, please forgive us during this difficult time.

Violet Leona Pazdernik, we love you and miss you very much: "Mom," "Ma," "Vi," "Viley," "Mamason," grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, and friend until we see you next time when we are also called home.

We thank each and every one of you for the support, love, and kindness shown toward all of us during this very hard time in our life.

On July 3, 2011 Vicki passed away at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh, Minnesota at the age of 61 years.

Vicki always said that she was blessed, and when her youngest daughter blessed her with three beautiful grandchildren she said, "I know God works in mysterious ways but I have been blessed with the most beautiful angels only God could imagine!". You have made me what I am today! Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I love you! We will love and miss you until the day we meet again.

Alma was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine.

Alma's family moved from Montana to Fergus Falls, Minnesota, when she was four years old. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1934. She later moved to Clearwater County and held various jobs to help her family during the Depression, including waitressing at Burt's Cafe in Bagley, working two summers at Itasca State Park as a maid at Douglas Lodge, and working as a telephone operator in Bagley.

On June 1, 1940, Alma married Harold W. Peterson, of Erskine. They lived in Bagley and Red Lake Falls before settling in Erskine, where Harold worked for Garden Valley Telephone Company. The two enjoyed a full life together, camping and fishing when their children were young and eventually buying a small cabin where they enjoyed summer weekends. Harold passed away in 1983 and had worked for Garden Valley for 49 years.

In the years after Harold's death, Alma traveled often, visiting family in other states and taking two trips to Norway, which she spoke of frequently. Alma was an avid gardener and was known for her beautiful flowers. She especially loved roses. Sewing was also a hobby, and she made many mission quilts at church. Although she was known for excellent jams and preserves, one of her best dishes was her apple pie; she could often be found in her later years surrounded by apples she was paring while watching television.

In 2012 Alma moved to the Country Place assisted living apartments in Erskine, a transition made more comfortable by the frequent visits of her sons and extended family, and the loving attention of her daughter Karen. Died: January 10, 2011

Gary Orville Reiten, 61, of Hackensack, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly Monday, January 10, 2011 on a nature trail at Deep Portage Conservation Reserve near Hackensack.

Gary was born May 10, 1949 in Fosston, Minnesota to Orville Glen and Clara Henrietta (Rud) Reiten. Gary graduated from Fosston High School in 1967. They then moved to Bemidji, Minnesota and Gary finished his degree at Bemidji State, graduating Cum Laude.
