James V. Geisen, 87, of Mentor and Fosston, Minnesota, and formerly of
Thief River Falls, Minnesota passed away at his home on July 7, 2008,
surrounded by the love of his family. Memorial mass will be held on
Saturday, August 9 at 11:00 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston
with Father David Super officiating. Interment will be at the Greenwood
Cemetery in Fisher, Minnesota.
James was born to Valentine Geisen and Anna (Klier) Geisen in Bisbee, North
Dakota, on December 14, 1920. James grew up and attended school in Bisbee.
As a teenager, he often worked with his father in their family business, a soda fountain/pool hall in Bisbee ND.
James attended Aakers Business College in Grand Forks ND, where he met Leola Wallnofer. On May 7, 1941 they were united in marriage and at the time of James death, he and Leola had celebrated 67 years of marriage.
After Aakers, James was employed in the banking business in Fordville, North Dakota. In 1942 during WW II, James was drafted into the Army and trained as a cryptographer. For the next three years he was stationed in France and England. He was honorably discharged after an accident that severely broke his leg.
James became partners in the Grand Forks Credit and Collection Bureau. In 1947, James and Leola purchased their first home in Fisher MN, they later bought a home in East Grand Forks and in about 1952, the family moved to a farm in Mentor MN. For the next 50 years, this property served as the special family gathering place for all the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. It was at "the farm" that all the generations formed lasting memories of everyone being together.
In 1954 James purchased the Thief River Falls Credit Bureau and remained there until his retirement in 1967. Then Jim and Leola moved to Loveland, Colorado where Jim came out of retirement to manage the Loveland Hospital Collection Department for several years. About 1974, James and Leola moved back to Minnesota and for the next 34 years spent their winters in Apache Junction Arizona.
James is survived by his wife Leola (Wallnofer) Geisen, one sister Ramona Severaid of Billings MO, four children, Kris (Sharon) Geisen of Bemidji MN, Rebecca Geisen Larson of Menahga MN, Debora (Don) Ley of Canon City CO, and Jill (Jesse) Geisen Clack of Park Rapids MN. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren (Andy and Adam Ramberg, Jacent, Jeremy and Samantha Ley, Shannon and Brandon Geisen and Kristin, Brett and Jed Larson) and 11 great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his mother and father and one sister, Lois Novotny.
James took special delight in his grandchildren and will always have a special place in their hearts. He showed great patience with them as they followed him around fixing machines, building things, and sharing his love of the outdoors with them. Being an avid hunter, he served as mentor, partner and outfitter for the entire family.
Inspired by his creativity, James made beautiful leather work using the hand made tools he had designed while he was rehabilitating his broken leg in the veterans hospital. Later he became a rock hound and tumbled, cut, polished and then set them in silver, turning his collection of special stones into beautiful, unique jewelry. Jim had a strong work ethic mixed with a spirit of fun and adventure. He enjoyed traveling, collecting antique items, playing golf and pool, planting huge gardens, and engaging his family in lively debates.
James Geisen was a loving father, a man of great integrity, wit and intelligence, a man devoted to his wife and family. He will be greatly missed by all.

Marvin Gene Gubrud 1938-2014
Born: June 09, 1938
Died: August 23, 2014
Marvin Gubrud, age 76 of Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Saturday,
August 23rd at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Memorial
services will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at 11:00 AM at Kingo
Lutheran Church in Fosston with Pastor Ken Nyhusmoen officiating. A
memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26th from 5:00 to
7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Fridhem Lutheran Church in
Lengby, Minnesota. Family and friends will also gather for one hour
before the memorial service on Wednesday. Interment of cremains will
be at the Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley, Minnesota, and the Carlin-Hoialmen
Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of
condolence may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.
Marvin Gene Gubrud was born on June 9, 1938, in Bagley, Minnesota, to
parents Carl and Aletta (Enstad) Gubrud, the middle child of nine. He
was raised in the Bagley area and attended Bagley schools. On January
2, 1960, Marvin was joined in marriage to Lorraine Olson of the Minerva
area. They lived in Wayzata, Minnesota where Marvin worked for the first Target
store as a mechanic. In 1965, they moved to a farm near Fosston and this
"city boy" began raising turkeys with "farm girl" Lorraine and their three
small sons. After a few years, Marvin began working construction, as their
family had expanded to include two daughters.
When Marvin neared retirement
age, he changed careers and purchased logging equipment. He shared this
vocation at times with his son-in-law Harlan, grandsons Philip and Jacob,
and his sons got in on the fun once in a while, too. When Marvin retired,
he kept busy making wood crafts, cutting wood, and helping Lorraine
occasionally to haul ladders and set-up scaffolding for her painting
business. On a good day, she would let him paint in the closets. Through
the years, Marvin also raised pigs, cattle, and emus, and had llamas,
cats, horses, goats, and chickens as pets, as well as several faithful
dogs. The cats usually wandered off, and he was still battling snakes
until a couple of weeks ago.
Marvin was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Bagley, which his dad helped to build. He was an active
member of Fridhem Lutheran church of Lengby, Minnesota where he served on
the church council and volunteered in many capacities, including painting
the church with Lorraine.
Marvin lived a full life, as Lorraine led him on many adventures, near and far. Close to home, there were trips to Itasca, berry picking jaunts, and too many family picnics to count. They also went on vacations to Oregon, Texas, California, Branson, Arizona, Washington D.C., and Sweden and Norway to see the original Gubberud homestead. Marvin cherished the annual deer hunting season, and fishing for "big wally" with his sons
and grandchildren. Providing for his family and spending time together was
Marvin's top priority. Marvin, along with Lorraine, never missed his
grandkids' school functions. Marvin was an avid sports fan as well and
seldom missed an opportunity to be disappointed in the Minnesota Vikings
or Twins. He enjoyed helping Lorraine prepare holiday dinners for the
whole family. The coffee pot was always on for visitors, too. Marvin
was a good man, and will always be missed and remembered by those of us
who knew and loved him.
On Saturday, August 23, 2014 Marvin passed away at home, surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 76.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lorraine; sons: Randy (Wanda) and their children Ashley (Jake) Reinier, and Ben Gubrud; Greg (Christina) and their children, Emily (Jeremy) and their sons Lukas and Jack Marvin Friesen, Jacob Gubrud, Annie Gubrud, and Justin; Marty (Kelly) and their sons, Tyler, Joey, and Jack Gubrud; daughters: Laurie (Calvin) Larsen and their children, Kayla (Jorge) Heller and their daughters Alivia, Emma, Liliana and Lila, Philip (Emily) Larsen, and Lisa Larsen; and Sheila (Harlan) Olson and their children, Reid Marvin, Maria, and Markus Olson. Marvin is also survived by his twin sister, Marilyn Olson, sister, Aldora Anderson, and brother, Leroy Gubrud. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Marvin was preceeded in death by parents, Carl and Aletta Gubrud; sisters, Elaine Kundtz and Vivian Grendahl; and brothers, Warren, Gordon, and Orville Gubrud.

Barbara Anne (Moen) Ingman was born on October 13th, 1942 in Halstad,
Minnesota to parents Alice (Haugen) and Hans Moen who owned a dairy farm
east of Nielsville, Minnesota. She was an active member of St. Petri
Lutheran Church in Nielsville and an involved member of the local
Community Workers 4-H Club for 10 years. She attended elementary
school at Nielsville and High School at Halstad MN.
Barbara was a teacher of many things. After graduating in 1964 from
Concordia College in Moorhead with a Bachelors degree in English and
Spanish, she went on to inspire many students with her gifts teaching
these subjects in many schools throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, and
Montana during her more than 25-year career as a teacher. She taught in
Braham, Minnesota, Malta, Montana, Circle Pines, Minnesota, Westby, Montana,
Fairview ND, Oklee-Plummer Minnesota, and most recently teaching at
Win-E-Mac High School in McIntosh, Minnesota, with her valued colleagues,
all the while enjoying the challenge of educating countless students. She
also shared her teaching gifts abroad with students in Haining, China as
a teacher for the Global Language Villages program of Concordia College.
Barbara took great pride in her Norwegian heritage and enjoyed sharing
her knowledge of the language and culture with others, often by translating
letters and recipes from the Old Country for friends and family, and
passing this pride and knowledge on to her children.
On May 31, 1964 she was united in marriage to Milan Ingman of Belfield,
North Dakota. Together they served church parishes of the American Lutheran
Church (ALC) in Westby, Montana, Sidney Montana, Oklee, Minnesota, and
McIntosh, Minnesota. Barbara actively participated by teaching Sunday
school, leading Bible studies, and as church organist, accompanist and
vocalist.
Her husband Pastor Milan Ingman passed away on January 28,
1994. She continued serving the Lord with her love of music, through her
involvement in the many church organizations at Immanuel, Grace, Our
Saviors and Vernes Lutheran Churches. She enjoyed singing, playing organ
and piano, organizing and participating in a great many recitals, concerts,
and Easter Cantatas. She shared her love of music with everyone she met
including teaching piano lessons for more than 30 years.
She was gifted at sewing, needlework, and knitting and enjoyed creating tailor-made clothing, beautiful dresses and quilts, as well as mending nearly anything.
Her leadership serving her community as an active member on the McIntosh City Council, Booster Club, and the McIntosh Economic Development Authority made long-lasting contributions to the community. She served on the board of Pioneer Memorial Home for 9 years, and has been involved with the McIntosh Booster Club since 1987.
She left this world to be with Jesus Our Savior after an extended and valiant battle with cancer on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at her home in McIntosh at the age of 65 years. Her battle began in 1992 and her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, support and prayers of family and friends, and tenacity allowed her to prevail against all odds to remain in this world as a warrior in the service of God's Army for the benefit of all who knew her and for as long as was gifted by God before calling his angel back to His service.
Her unwavering faith in God was an example for all of us.
She is survived by four sons; Bradley, Stuart, Alan, Jonathan and his wife, Kristin. Other survivors include her sister Karen (Kermit) Stahn, Morris MN; brother-in-law, Harlan (Patti) Ingman, Killdeer, North Dakota; and sister-in-law, Karen (Gene) Bucholtz, Seattle, WA, eight nieces and nephews and other family members.
