Vannie was born November 11, 1927, in Erskine, Minnesota, to parents Maynard and Emma (Strom) Howe. She grew up in Erskine and graduated with the high school class of 1945.

On June 5, 1946 she was united in marriage to Joe Espeseth of Roseau, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Erskine where they resided for 62 years.

Early in her marriage she worked as a waitress at several local restaurants. She was later employed, for many years, as a noon playground supervisor at the Erskine Elementary School where she enjoyed being with the students and developing many special relationships. For several years she wrote a weekly column entitled “Vannie’s Viewpoints” for the Erskine Echo and McIntosh Times.

Vannie will be fondly remembered for her quick wit and humor, love of reading and crossword puzzles, delicious cooking and baking (She could make leftovers taste like a gourmet meal and she DID have the best buns in town!), and for always having a huge bowl of popcorn kept warm on the stove and a fresh pot of coffee. She loved to shop, especially for groceries—she never wanted an empty space in her cupboard. She enjoyed her acting days in community plays and being the “bag lady” at local events. Most of all she loved her family and showing her love for them.

Vannie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine where she was baptized and confirmed.

On Friday, May 7, 2010 Vannie Espeseth passed away at Anoka Care Center in Anoka, Minnesota at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 26 days. She had been a resident there since December of 2008.

She is survived by her children, Sandy (Al) Kauppi of Circle Pines, Minnesota, Dave (Kang) Espeseth of Crestview, FL, Diane Espeseth of Circle Pines, Minnesota, Jim (Deb) Espeseth of Bagley, Minnesota, and Shari (Lee) Jarka of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; grandchildren, Terri, Mike (Angelica), Brandy (Ben), Jeremy, Jamie, and Shayley; great grandchildren, Brady, Tiffany, Oliver, and Addler; sister, Dolores Santelli of Encinitas, CA; brother, Ron (Renee) Howe of Erskine, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, JoAnne McWilliam; and former son-in-law, Jan McWilliam.

Kathleen Sybil Noyes was born on November 27, 1949. She was the pride and joy of Ursula and Clifford Noyes. She lived on their farm in rural Brooks with her big brother Jim and her younger sister, Carolyn. The farm is where she learned to love gardening, crafting, and most importantly, the Lord.

In 1968 she married the love of her life, Michael Ray Evenson. The two were married for 39 years and loved each other in a way in which everyone admired. Together, Mic and Cathi raised two daughters, Kristi and Kara. Cathi’s girls were her world. She was fully devoted to them and assured them of this with every word and deed. She left them knowing that they were adored by her and the Lord above.

Cathi's love for others permeated her family and friends but also extended to her community and all those she met. She was a beloved teacher for more than 32 years. She cared for each child as if he was her own, knowing each by name. She had a silly song for everything and her enthusiasm for life was contagious. Cathi’s smile will forever be imprinted on the hearts of each person who knew her.

Cathi is remembered and adored by her husband, Mic, her daughters, Kristi (Jerry) Sanders and Kara (Jared) Voorhees; her grandson, Harrison Sanders; brother, Jim (Nona) Noyes; sister, Carolyn Toupin; sisters-in-law, Debbie (Dick) Paquin, Dawn (Mark) Austin, Becky Evenson, Shelly (Danny) Dale; brothers-in-law, Steve (Linda) Evenson, Mark Evenson, and Jeff Evenson; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts and uncles. Cathi had many devoted friends.

On August 27, 2007, Cathi Evenson left this world a better place. She died at age 57, too soon for those of us who love her here, not soon enough for those who were waiting for her in heaven, her mother and father Ursula and Cliff Noyes and her mother and father-in-law, Maude and Bob Evenson.

Beverly Ann Torblaa Forsberg

1928-2014

Born: October 01, 1928
Died: March 25, 2014

Beverly Forsberg, age 85 of Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, March 25th at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 31st at 2:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church on Monday, and interment will be at Queen Cemetery, rural Fosston. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.

Beverly Ann Torblaa was born in Crookston, Minnesota, on October 1, 1928 to parents Lloyd Elliot Torblaa and Ann Mary (Pavek) Torblaa. She was the first of two daughters born to the Torblaas. Her younger sister is Dorothy (Torblaa) Hanson. Beverly attended a one-room Country Schoolhouse prior to attending and graduating from Fosston High in 1947.

Beverly lived and worked on the Torblaa family farm until, at the age of 19, she married Lawrence Calmer Forsberg (a WWII Navy Veteran). Lawrence's family owned a farm near Trail, Minnesota. They were married in Minneapolis on May 15, 1948. The young couple were one of many looking for jobs and apartments in the "big city" after WWII and settled into a two-room apartment to start their family. Their first son (David Lloyd) was born in February of 1950 followed by a second son (Steven Larry) in December of 1951.

They then moved to another two-room apartment near downtown Minneapolis where they added two more sons, (Jeffrey Lee) in March of 1954 and (LaMonte Jay) in 1962. In the late 1950's the family moved into the "more spacious" three-room apartment on the first floor. At this time, Beverly and Larry also housed and took care of a nephew (Roger) and a niece (Cynthia).

Beverly always thought of herself as common. She was far above common - Everyone should be so lucky to have such a "common" Mother. Through every trial she made her children feel Loved. The children were always fed. Their clothes were clean (though the boys came in covered in dirt every day). She nursed all of the children through numerous illnesses (Mumps, Measles, Chicken Pox). She dressed the children in their best for church each Sunday. And she allowed the children to make mistakes so they could learn from them. She always put the family ahead of herself - her prayers were always for the children. When the children were all in school, Beverly went to work as a waitress to help pay for the purchase of the Forsberg Family Farm. Later she went to work at Augustana Home as a Nursing Assistant and stayed there for 20 years. She was very much appreciated and loved there also.

A Wonderful Mother and an even more Loving Grandmother/Nana. From her first grandchild to her last great-grandchild, each child had a special relationship with her. They knew she loved them, and because of her they knew they were Special.

When Larry retired from his job at the Twin Cities Transit Company, Beverly and Larry moved back to Fosston and bought a home just outside the town limits of Fosston.

On Tuesday, March 25, 2014 Beverly passed away at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston, Minnesota at the age of 85 years.

She was preceded in death by husband Lawrence Forsberg.

She is survived by sister Dorothy (Torblaa) Hanson; sons David, Steven (Kathryne), Jeffrey (Jill) and LaMonte (Mary); six grandchildren Sara, John, Katie, Kristina, Stacy and Jared; and nine great grandchildren Marina, Lena, Isabelle, Natalie, Hunter, Forrest, Brooke, Alexander and Olivia.
