Frances Abele

1919-2011

Born: December 25, 1919
Died: June 28, 2011

Frances Abele, age 91, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, June 28th at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2nd at 2:30 PM at First English Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Dean Bell officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Fosston, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.

Frances M. Schultz was born on December 25, 1919 in rural Fosston, Minnesota to Edward and Minnie (Polley) Schultz. She grew up and attended rural school near Fosston.

She was united in marriage to Thomas "Dutch" Abele on September 28, 1940. After their marriage, they lived and raised their family in Fosston. Frances worked at the Gambles Store and Northside Grocery in Fosston, and she catered locally and sewed as well. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, flowers, and she loved having company and being around people. She was a faithful, active member of First English Lutheran Church in Fosston. Dutch and Frances celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2010.

On Tuesday, June 28, 2011 Frances M. Abele passed away at First Care Living Center in Fosston at the age of 91 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Carol Abele of Fosston; one son, Lowell Abele of Hugo, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Marie Abele of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandsons, David (Desire`) Abele of Minneapolis, and Mikel Abele of Minneapolis; granddaughter, Shelly (Rob) Heimback and their daughters, Ava and Karly of Hugo, Minnesota; and two brothers, Bernie (Shirley) Schultz of Fosston, and Robert (Norma) Schultz of Richey, MT.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 70 years, Thomas "Dutch" Abele; one son, Harris Abele; one sister, Evelyn Abele; and seven brothers, Elmer, Herbert, Lloyd, Melvin, Delmer, Clarence, and Paul Schultz.

Thomas "Dutch" Abele

Thomas "Dutch" Abele, age 95, from Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, November 30th at his home in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (December 4th) at First English Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Dean Bell officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (December 3rd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. Thomas Abele was born on September 18, 1915 in Sletten Township, rural Fosston, Minnesota to parents William and Mary (Thoma) Abele. He grew up and attended rural school near Fosston.

He was united in marriage to Frances Schultz on September 28, 1940. After their marriage, they lived and raised their family in Fosston and Dutch worked at the Land O Lakes plant. Dutch was a dedicated employee of Land O Lakes for 32 years. After his retirement, he did carpentry work and painting around the area and enjoyed caring for his lawn. He especially enjoyed mowing the grass. Dutch and Frances celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year, and he was a faithful member of First English Lutheran Church in Fosston.

On Tuesday, November 30, 2010 Thomas "Dutch" Abele passed away at his home in Fosston at the age of 95 years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Frances of Fosston; one daughter, Carol Abele of Fosston; one son, Lowell Abele of Hugo, MN; daughter-in-law, Marie Abele of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandsons, David (Desire`) Abele of Minneapolis, and Mikel Abele of Minneapolis; granddaughter, Shelly (Rob) Heimback and their daughters, Ava and Karly of Hugo, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Harris Abele; two sisters, Frances Schacher and Margaret Lindberg; and two brothers, John and Bernard Abele.

Anna Reine (Thompson) Abrahamson

1963-2010

Anna Abrahamson, age 46, of Anchorage, Alaska, and formerly of McIntosh, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday (June 2nd) at her home in Anchorage. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday (June 12th) at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Pastor Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Interment will be in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Anna Reine Thompson was born on December 3, 1963 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Lyle and Rosa Lee (Blaydes) Thompson. Anna was baptized and confirmed in Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh. She attended school in McIntosh and graduated from McIntosh-Winger High School in 1982. She attended Bemidji State University and graduated with a B.S. degree in accounting and computer science in 1991.

Anna was united in marriage to Kevin Abrahamson on September 1, 1984 in McIntosh, Minnesota.

She worked at Strom Drug, the U.S. Census Bureau, Mac Manor and Red Lake County Highway Department. In 1998, she moved to Alaska and began working for Ahtna Technical Services, Incorporated where she was employed at the time of her death. Anna loved to travel and her job with Ahtna allowed her the opportunity to travel world-wide.

She was extremely loyal to anyone she considered a friend and enjoyed spending time with her family. Although Anna was not able to spend much time outdoors, she did make time for fly fishing. She also enjoyed plays and musicals.

Anna is survived by her father Lyle Thompson and stepmother Barbara of Mentor, Minnesota, son Justin Abrahamson of Alaska, brothers Patrick (Cherie) Thompson of Mentor, Minnesota, Dan (Jody) Thompson of Palmyra, Missouri, Brian (Mukkove) Johnson of Palmer, Alaska, sisters Belinda Fredrickson of California, Chris White of McIntosh, Minnesota, Kelly (Rick) Phillips of Hutchinson, Minnesota and Christi (Eric) Falen of Jerome, Idaho. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her mother Rosa Lee, an infant sister, Kimberly, her paternal grandparents Lloyd and Jessie Thompson, as well as her maternal grandparents.

Verna Lorraine (Brekke) Affeldt

1924-2011

Verna Affeldt, age 86, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, January 19th at Essentia Health Long Term Care in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24th at 11:00 AM at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. John Dalen officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with a prayer service at 5:00 PM at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church. Interment will be at Kingo Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Verna Lorraine Brekke was born on December 12, 1924 in Fisher, Minnesota, to parents Martin and Tillie (Sveningson) Brekke. Verna was confirmed at Fisher Lutheran Church and graduated from Fisher High School in 1942. After graduation Verna lived with her sister Thelma and husband Jack in Fosston, Minnesota where she worked at the Fosston Coop Creamery. She met and married Lee Affeldt on March 31, 1946. They had two children, Susan and Warren. Verna and Lee moved to the farm in the fall of 1950 and remained there for their entire married life.

She was an active member of Kingo Lutheran Church where she participated in teaching Friday School, Circles, Ladies Aid, Choir and servant groups. Verna was also a member of the Fosston Ladies Auxiliary. She was a den mother in Cub Scouts and an active volunteer with Girl Scout Troop #36.

Verna loved entertaining family and friends with coffee parties and family dinners. She particularly loved her four grandchildren; Scott, Jon, Kelly and Mike and recently her two great grandchildren; Lillian and Lincoln.

She passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 surrounded by loving family, at Essentia Health Long Term Care in Fosston at the age of 86 years, one month and seven days.

Survivors include one daughter Susan (Bob) Peck of Chanhassen, MN; one son, Warren (Deb) Affeldt of Fosston; four grandchildren, Scott (Michelle) Anderson of Princeton, Minnesota, Jon (Christina) Anderson of Chaska, Minnesota, Kelly Affeldt of Shakopee, Minnesota, and Mike Affeldt of Fosston; and two great grandchildren, Lillian Eleanor Anderson and Lincoln Robert Anderson. Nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lee in 2009; a brother, Irvin (Alma) Brekke and a sister Thelma (Jack) Harris.

John Semour Amundsen, Jr.

1972-2010

John Amundsen, Jr., age 37, of Erskine, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Friday (January 15th) at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (January 22nd) at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mahnomen, Minnesota with the Rev. Arvid Salvhus officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Mahnomen. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (January 21st) and for one hour prior to the service on Friday, all at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. John Semour Amundsen, Jr. was born on November 11, 1972 at UCLA Hospital in Los Angeles, California to parents John M. and Donna (Donaldson) Amundsen. As a young boy he moved to Mahnomen, Minnesota with his family where he attended school. He moved to Erskine, Minnesota in 2002.

John was married to Linda Kay Agnes on November 20, 2004. After their marriage, they made their home in Erskine. He was currently employed at Joe's Auto in Erskine.

John enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, playing cards, watching movies, ufc and mma fighting, watching the Vikings on t.v. with his father, John Sr., spending time with his kids and working. John truly had the gift to 'gab'! He also enjoyed giving his co-workers and customers a hard time (in fun). He truly loved life and will be greatly missed.

John passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 15, 2010 at his home at the age of 37 years.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of Erskine; one daughter, Stephanie Jane Safar (Amundsen) of Waubun, Minnesota; two sons, Michael Robert Larsen of Mille Lacs and Anthony James Larsen of Erskine; his father, John M. Amundsen, Sr. of Erskine; one brother, Jim Boisse of Erskine; two sisters, Rocksann Amundsen-Weiby and her husband, Derek, of Fosston, and Alicia Boisse of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; his mother and father-in-law, Orlean and Debbie Agnes of Fosston; and brother-in-law, Jered Agnes and his wife, Theresa, of Trail, Minnesota; numerous nieces, nephews and one great nephew; and his cat, 'Rascal.'

He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Amundsen; grandmother, Mary Jane Mouere; uncle, Stan Amundsen; and sister, Colleen Amundsen Horn.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Anthony Larsen, Michael Larsen, Stephanie Safar, Brandon Halvorson, Dustin Vedbraaten, Justin Moran, Ambrose Andersen, Quinten Andersen, Dalton Agnes and Joey Smeby.

Active Pallbearers will be Jesse Andersen, Tyler Wescott, Jered Agnes, Derek Weiby, Jim Boisse, Dan Yost, and Kent Solheim.

Justin Lloyd Abrahamson

1983-2012

Justin Lloyd Abrahamson, age 28, of Anchorage, Alaska, and formerly of the McIntosh and Fosston area, died unexpectedly the morning of August 3rd, 2012, north of Anchorage. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (August 18th) at the McIntosh Community Center with the Rev. Paul Magelssen and Marilyn Malmanger officiating. Interment will take place at a later date. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the community center. Justin was born September 24th in Crookston, Minnesota. He attended school at Win-E-Mac, Fosston, and in Alaska. He served in the U.S. Army for approximately two years. Justin loved working with his hands, especially "turning wrenches" while working on older cars. He loved most animals, particularly "big" dogs and cows. Justin was a great storyteller and would often embellish his stories nearly beyond belief. He was loyal to his friends and would often put their needs ahead of his own. His concept of family was not confined to blood or legal definitions; if he loved or cared for you, you were considered part of his "family."

The last five years of his life were spent in the Anchorage, Alaska area, where he worked various jobs, mainly repairing and rebuilding motor vehicles. In recent communications with several people, Justin expressed a desire to return to Minnesota to be with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his Mother, Anna Reine (Thompson) Abrahamson; Grandparents, Donald and Evelyn Abrahamson, Lyle Thompson and Marilyn Thompson; an Aunt, Kimberly Thompson; and an Uncle, Donald Abrahamson, Jr.

He is survived by his Father, Kevin Abrahamson of Cook; Grandma Barb Thompson of Mentor, Minnesota; Aunts, Chris White of McIntosh, Minnesota, Kelly (Rick) Phillips of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Belinda Austin of Encinitas, CA, and Christi (Eric) Falen of Jerome, ID; Uncles, Dan (Tamara) Thompson of Wood River, IL, Patrick (Cherie) Thompson of Mentor, Minnesota and Brian (Mukkove) Johnson of Palmer, AK; many cousins; and of course, all those other special people in Justin's life too numerous to mention whom he considered "family."

Ingvald Arthur Anderson

Ingvald Anderson, age 94, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday (April 7th) at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (April 13th) at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor John Marx officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fosston, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (April 12th) and for one hour prior to the service on Friday. Ingvald Arthur Anderson was born on March 31, 1918 to Norwegian immigrant parents Andrew H. and Ingeborg (Rodland) Anderson in a little log cabin in Columbia Township, rural Fosston, Minnesota. He grew up on an 80 acre farm the third child in a family of 12; six boys and six girls. He attended the Maple Hill School in Columbia Township through the eighth grade. As a young man he worked at various farms doing different farm tasks.

On December 30, 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Force. One month later he was on a ship headed for Australia. After further training at a base there, he was transferred to New Guinea where he served as an airplane mechanic. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was maintenance crew chief for six months. He left New Guinea in October of 1944 and was discharged in Sioux Falls, SD on October 10, 1945, and went to work at the Grand Forks Implement Co. as a mechanic.

He was married to Ione Sander on September 28, 1947. They lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota until March, at which time they moved north of Oslo, Minnesota where they rented a farm. After going through two major floods they moved to the Bagley area and bought Ingvald's uncle's farm. While living there Ingvald served on the St. Peter Church Board and on the local rural school board. In 1963, they moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota where Ingvald was once again employed at the Grand Forks Implement Co. In 1969, they bought a farm east of Fosston, Minnesota. Ingvald worked at the Fosston John Deere Implement from 1969-1983 when he retired. In 2001, they took a trip to Norway and Sweden, which was a highlight in their lives. In spring of 2008 they moved to Fosston.

Ingvald served on the Clearwater-Polk Electric Co-op Board for 20 years, and on the advisory board of the Gloryland Gospel Team. They were blessed with two daughters, nine grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. He was involved in his church, a very important part of his life.

On Saturday, April 7, 2012 Ingvald A. Anderson passed away at First Care Living Center in Fosston, and went to his heavenly home at the age of 94 years, and 7 days.

He is survived by his wife, Ione of Fosston; daughters, Brenda (David) Johnson of Bagley, Minnesota, and Faye (Philip) Quam of McIntosh, Minnesota; grandchildren, Matthew (Jinnan) Johnson of Lengby, Minnesota, Tammy (Joshua) Johnson of Bagley, Esther (Tom) Johannessohn of Lengby, Andrew (Jessica) Quam of McIntosh, Heidi (David) Hafvenstein of Benson, Minnesota, Shannon (Matthew) Albrecht of Fosston, Laura (Tim) Johnson of Bagley, and Peter Quam of McIntosh; 21 great grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Marilyn), Norman and Erling all of Fosston; three sisters, Norma Brown of Crookston, Minnesota, Esther Carlson of Park River, North Dakota and Elsie Gullekson of Fertile, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Russell (Gloria) Sander of Fosston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph and his wife Margaret and Alf and his wife Ardelle; sisters, Agnes Potter and her husband Chester, Thelma Hanson and her husband Larry, and Mabel Anderson; brothers-in-law, Donald Brown, Rolland Gullekson and Kenneth Sander and his wife Joyce; sister-in-law, Helen Anderson; grandson, Daniel Johnson; great grandson, Samuel Johnson; and a niece, Michelle Flodstrom.

Eva Mae (Pedigo) Andrew

1917-2013

Eva Andrew, age 96, of the Fosston/Lengby, Minnesota, area, passed away on Tuesday (July 23rd) at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (July 29th) at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby with the Rev. Aage Carlsen officiating. Interment will be in Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lengby. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (July 28th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Eva Mae Pedigo was born on February 15, 1917 in Waterville, Kansas, to parents William and Effie (McCallister) Pedigo. She moved to Turner County, South Dakota when she was a little girl. She attended school and graduated high school at Hurley, South Dakota.

Eva was united in marriage to Rex Andrew on April 11, 1936. At the time they were married, gas was 19 cents a gallon, a loaf of bread was eight cents, and a new Ford was $495.

Rex and Eva farmed in Turner County until November of 1949 when they moved to Minnesota. They then farmed in the Lengby-Fosston area until they moved to Fosston in 1986.

She worked candling eggs for Boots Balstad, cooked at Boy Scout camp, and was a seamstress for Finger Hut for seven years to supplement the farm income.

Eva enjoyed gardening, flowers and crocheting.

Eva passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 96 years, five months and eight days.

She is survived by four children, Ruth Adams of Newburg, MO, LaVerne (Fusako) of Ashley, North Dakota, Larry (Sharon) of Halstad, KS, and Lowell (Gwynneth) of North Carolina; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 11 great great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex; son, Lyle; brother, LaVerne Pedigo; sister, Audrey Pedigo; daughter-in-law, Helen Andrew; and son-in-law, Robert Adams.

Pallbearers: Kyle Andrew, Doug Youngquist, Tyler Andrew, Trevor Kenfield, Tony Maruska, and Gary Croker.

Lowell Gust Amundson

1949-2008

Lowell Amundson, age 58, of Mentor, Minnesota, passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, March 16th at his home in Mentor. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 2:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with Rev. Tim Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the memorial service at the church and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine, Minnesota is in charge of the arrangements.

Lowell Gust Amundson was born on July 5, 1949 in Fosston, Minnesota, to parents Otto and Olga (Wickstrom) Amundson. He attended school in Erskine, Minnesota, finished high school at the Ag School in Crookston and attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton for one year for Auto Body.

He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine and a member at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor, Minnesota.

Lowell served in the United States Army from September 4, 1970 to August 31, 1973.

He was united in marriage to Sally LaFontaine on July 25, 1981 in Bagley, Minnesota. They made their home in the Erskine and Mentor area and raised two daughters, Cassie and Sandy.

Lowell worked in Auto Body painting cars and trucks and worked road construction. He loved reading, gardening, wood cutting, hunting and just hanging out at the farm for quiet contemplation.

After a lengthy illness Lowell was put on a lung transplant list. He was air lifted to the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis on August 7, 2007. After four months of ICU care and little hope of recovery he opted to come home to be with family and friends. It was there that he peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2008, surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 58 years, 8 months and 11 days.

Survivors include his wife, Sally of Mentor; two daughters, Cassie (Erik) Jax of Erskine and Sandy Amundson of Mentor; one brother, Douglas Amundson of Erskine; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Darlene Barron.

Clifford V. Anderson

1920-2007

Clifford Anderson, age 87, of Erskine, Minnesota, passed away on Friday (June 29th) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday (July 2nd) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with Lee Hoaas officiating. Interment will be in Broderheim Cemetery, rural Erskine. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (July 1st) at the United Methodist Church in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at Grace Lutheran Church. Military rites will be conducted by the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine.

Cliff was born February 23, 1920 in Badger Township near Erskine to Adolph & Caroline (Madson) Anderson. He lived with his parents on the farm, attending a rural school & Mentor School. Clifford entered the armed forces in January 1942. He was given an honorable discharge in 1946, after serving 3 years in World War II in the European Theatre and participating in the Battle of the Bulge.

After his discharge, he returned to his homestead and farmed until 1952. He then worked for Garden Valley Telephone Company as a crew member until 1956. In January 1957, he began working for Continental Telephone in Warren, Minnesota.

In 1959, he married Roberta Hoaas of Erskine and became a loving father to six children. Of this marriage, a son was born, Bryan Jay, in 1961.

After 25 years of service in the telephone company, he retired in 1982, returning to Erskine. He was an active member of the Erskine United Methodist Church, serving the Lord in numerous capacities. He was also an active member of the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post 596.

Cliff loved spending time with his extensive family, including vacationing, celebrating holidays all together, and playing cards/games. Cliff will be remembered in so many ways. His life-long love of all types of music (a gift from his mother) included gospel, classical, opera, and country. His love of music carried over into his singing and playing the harmonica. He will forever be remembered by the sweet tunes he carried by whistling wherever he went. Cliff was well versed in World History and loved to share his knowledge. Cliff had a genuine love for all animals -- this was displayed throughout his life from early days with farm animals to later years with household pets.

Celebrating his life are children: Barbara (Steven) Gaalswyk of Erskine, Patricia (Larry) Sandberg of Roscoe, IL, Geraldine (Marcell) Rogalla of Detroit Lakes, Leland (Sherry) Hoaas of Erskine, Charlotte (Kurt) Krueger of Grand Rapids, Stephan Hoaas of Erskine, and Bryan (Sue) Anderson of Casper, WY, 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife Roberta in 1998, his parents, Adolph and Caroline, one brother Arthur, and two sisters, Muriel & Violet and grandson, Corey Rogalla.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine, Eddie Horacek, Bert Brown, Jim Herdliska, Wilbur Nielson, Doug Hole, Bob Lerfald, Chester Benson, Jim Riedler, and Bud Riedler.

Active Pallbearers will be Clifford's grandsons: Erik Sandberg, Josh Sandberg, Aaron Enerson, Darryl Enerson, Travis Anderson, and Jerrod Hoaas.

Helen Ione (Fischer) Andrew

1941-2011

Born: July 14, 1941
Died: October 24, 2011

Helen Andrew, age 70, of Lengby, Minnesota, passed away on Monday (October 24th) as result of an automobile accident near Fosston, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (October 28th) at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby with Pastor Scott Morey officiating. Interment will be in Fridhem Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lengby. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (October 27th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Helen Ione Fischer was born on July 14, 1941 in Northwood, North Dakota to parents Ervin and Evelyn (Lidenberg) Fischer. Her family moved to Lengby, Minnesota in 1947. She graduated from Fosston High School in 1959. Following high school, Helen entered the nurses training program at Bethesda Hospital in Crookston, Minnesota where she earned her degree as a licensed practical nurse.

Helen was united in marriage to Lyle Andrew on December 17, 1960 at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Lengby. After their marriage they lived in Lengby and raised four children, Brian, Leslie, Deborah and Melissa. Lyle passed away on April 11, 1988.

Helen had many interests including sewing, crocheting and spending time at Magelssen Elementary School in Fosston as a foster grandparent. She sewed numerous Halloween outfits for her grandchildren. Many wedding dresses, bridesmaids dresses and prom dresses were meticulously sewn in her kitchen.

Helen passed away on Monday, October 24, 2011 as a result of an automobile accident near Fosston at the age of 70 years.

She is survived by her mother, Evelyn Fischer of Fosston; two sons, Brian (Cindy) of Dilworth, Minnesota, and Leslie (Katja) of Belgrade, MT; two daughters, Deborah (Errol) Miller of Gary, Minnesota and Melissa Andrew of Flom, Minnesota; mother-in-law, Eva Andrew of Fosston; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her father; and one son, Warren.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Helen's grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Andrew, Trevor Kenfield, Sam Bixler, Wade Wooley, Andrew Miller, and Darby Miller.

Lillian (Myhre) Anderson

1920-2012

Lillian Anderson, age 91, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday (February 1st) at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (February 4th) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Lillian Myhre was born on June 5, 1920 in Columbia Township, rural Fosston, Minnesota to parents Edwart and Indiana "Jennie" (Rotness) Myhre. She grew up in Columbia Township and was baptized and confirmed at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston. She attended rural school at the Pine Hill School in Columbia Township.

Lillian was united in marriage to Elmer Oliver Anderson on May 27, 1947. After their marriage, they lived on the Anderson home farm in Columbia Township. Lillian and Elmer had no children. Elmer passed away on December 21, 1980. After Elmer's passing, Lillian continued to live on the farm until moving to the Bethany Home in Fosston in 1987. She has been a resident of First Care Living Center in Fosston since 1990.

She was a lifelong member of Kingo Lutheran Church. She liked to crochet; making many bedspreads and tablecloths and also played the piano by ear.

Lillian passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at First Care Living Center in Fosston at the age of 91 years.

Survivors include one brother, Roy Myhre of Eveleth, Minnesota and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers: Dean Sorgaard, Bjorn Sorgaard, Charlie Myhre, Jake Ferkul, Gary Bjerke, and Samantha Schake.

Marjorie (Nelson) Anderson

1923-2009

Marjorie Anderson, age 86, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23rd at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 31st at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be at Kingo Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Wednesday at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. Marjorie B. Nelson was born in Ada, Minnesota, to Norman and Inga (Anderson) Nelson on June 1, 1923. Marge grew up in Lockhart, Minnesota and as a child she enjoyed spending time on her grandparent's farm. She was a member of the last graduating class of Beltrami High School in 1940. She then went on to attend Beauty School in Fargo, North Dakota. Upon graduation, she went to work as a hairdresser in Ada and Fertile, Minnesota.

On February 8, 1946 she married LeRoy (Roy) Anderson and they moved to Fosston, Minnesota. Marge was a hairdresser for 52 years. In 1962 Roy and Marge bought the A & W Drive Inn in Fosston and later retired in 1982. Marge continued to work as a hairdresser until she was 70 years old.

Marge was active in Kingo Lutheran Church and was a founding member of the Ladies Sewing Club. She was an avid gardener and was proud of winning "Yard of the Week" several times. Marge loved to dance, laugh and always had a smile on her face.

On Wednesday, December 23, 2009 Marge passed away peacefully at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston, where she had been a resident since May of this year, at the age of 86 years.

She is survived by her children; Craig (Thurlene) Anderson of Hermosa Beach, CA, Valerie (Butch) Altepeter of Minden, NV and Renae (Ron) Rodriguez of Minden, NV. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Violet (Bud) Denison of West Seattle, WA and Dorothy (Everett) Wright of West Seattle, WA; and brother-in-law, Cecil Zarling of Fertile, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband LeRoy (Roy) Anderson; and her sister, Eleanor Zarling.

She will be profoundly missed by her family and many friends.

Mildred Leona (Volkers) Anderson

Mildred Anderson, age 80, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday (May 8th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Private family services will be held. Arrangements were with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston.

Mildred Leona Volkers was born on November 20, 1929 in Dickey County, North Dakota to parents Hinnie and Frankeline (Elsen) Volkers. She attended Zion Lutheran Church north of Fosston. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, and spending time with her family and grandchildren, especially her grandson, Wesley Anderson.

Mildred passed away on Saturday evening, May 8, 2010 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 80 years.

Survivors include four sons, Ricky (Jen), Wayne (Diane), Butch, and Steve (Laura); two daughters, Sharon and Sylvia; several grandchildren; two brothers, Carl and Herman; three sisters, Helen, Fran, and Ann. Nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Anna; and her parents.

Warren Charles Anderson

1932-2010

Warren Anderson, age 78, of Fosston, passed away on Sunday (April 11th) surrounded by his family under the care of First Care Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (April 15th) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Warren Charles Anderson was born on February 26, 1932 in Bagley, Minnesota the son of Martin C. and Laura (Strand) Anderson. He was raised in the Bagley/Fosston area until the family moved to Silverton, Oregon where he graduated from high school in 1949. After graduation, the family moved back to the Fosston area. As a young man, Warren went into partnership with brothers Robert and Norman. They started Anderson Brothers Contractors of Fosston, Incorporated, building roads all over northern Minnesota.

On June 6, 1953, Warren was united in marriage to Mavis E. Stavig of Bagley. In 1986 he retired from the construction business. Warren was active in the community and involved in several organizations. He was a charter member of the Fosston-Lengby Lions Club, as well as volunteer fireman for the Fosston Fire Department. His interest was in his family, fishing, hunting, flying, and golfing. He was also a member of Kingo Lutheran Church and served on the church council.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis of Fosston; four children, Bruce of Minnetonka, Minnesota and his family, Bryant, Lauren, and Derek; Lorae (Rick) Roed of Fosston and their family, Anna and Erik; James (fiance, Paula) of Maple Grove, Minnesota and son, Ryan; and Charles (Andrea) of Fosston and their family, Gretchen, Brittany (Mike Schmidt) of Alexandria, Minnesota and their daughter, Grace.

Also surviving are his sister, Mae (Harold) Sielert of Mesa, Arizona; and brother, Norman (Ruth) Anderson of Fosston; and sister-in-law, Aldora Anderson of Fosston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert; and one grandchild, Christopher Roed.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Warren's family and friends.

Arne Anderson, Jr.

Arnold Cline Anderson, Jr. was born on February 4, 1957 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Arnold and Shirley (Lambrechts) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston and attended Fosston High School. Upon graduation he attended Bemidji State University for five years which thereafter he received a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. After graduation at Bemidji State University Arnold "Arne" went on to work in Alexandria at the State Hospital. From Alexandria he returned to his hometown and began his employment at New Flyer of America in Crookston, Minnesota as a warehouse worker up until his recent decline in health.

Arnold "Arne" enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, listening to classical music, and debating current political issues. He was very kind, compassionate, and willing to lend a hand where needed.

Arnold "Arne" passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 1, 2007 while rehabilitating at Midway Care Center from a recent surgery in Fargo, North Dakota.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Anderson of Fosston, one brother, Scott Anderson of Fosston, three sisters, Sheryl (Ron) Anderson of Lengby, Minnesota, Joyce (James) Anderson of Rosemount, Minnesota, Judy Newton of Hopkinsville, KY, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Arnold Anderson, brother, Wayne Tollefson, and nephew, Michael Newton.

Gregory Alan Aos

1954-2012

Gregory Aos, age 57, of Gonvick, Minnesota, passed away on Monday (August 20th) at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday (August 25th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Lund Lutheran Cemetery, Gully, Minnesota. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Gregory Alan Aos was born on September 6, 1954 at St. Francis Hospital in Crookston, Minnesota to parents Richard and Janis (Fjerstad) Aos. He was baptized at Lund Lutheran Church in Gully. At the age of five, he moved with his family to Red Lake Falls where he attended grade school and Sunday School at Bethany Lutheran Church.

In 1965, Greg moved with his family to East Grand Forks where he was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and completed school at Central High School. Following high school, Greg worked at a car wash in East Grand Forks, and later at the ODC in Thief River Falls and Fosston. He then moved to Gonvick and worked for Kubiak Foods in Bagley for many years until he was forced to quit due to health reasons.

Greg had special needs but never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or phone number. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching racing and most sports. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Greg passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012 at his home in Gonvick at the age of 57 years.

He is survived by his parents, Richard and Janis Aos of Gonvick; brother, Ritchie Aos of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; special friend, Edna Stoskopf of Gonvick; one nephew, Michael Aos of Colorado; four nieces, Heather Geres of Sioux Falls, SD, Haley Aos of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, Ashley Aos of East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Emily Aos of Sioux Falls, SD; three great nephews; one great niece and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Jo Aos in 1988; and his grandparents, Louie and Mary Aos and Lloyd and Sadie Fjerstad.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Greg's cousins

David Alan Arneberg

David Arneberg, age 49, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday (September 19th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston after a courageous three year battle with cancer. David Alan Arneberg was born on June 20, 1960 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Swen and Lylah (Loland) Arneberg. He graduated from Fosston High School and the Detroit Lakes Area Vocational College. He was married to Debra Mootz on march 9, 1985. He drove truck for many years until ill health prevented it.

David liked to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his three sons, Derick of Boston, MA, and Dustin and Devin, both of Fosston; his mother, Lylah Hanson of McIntosh, MN; sister, Cheryl Vorderbruggen of Fosston; and special friend, Luann Dufault of Fosston; step brother, Wendel (Jan) Hanson of Fosston; and step sister, Mae Bakken of Fosston; one niece, Cara (Shane) Anderson of Iowa; and nephew, Cory (Heather) Strandlien of Shevlin, Minnesota; five great nieces, Madison, Macy and McKenna Strandlien, and Katie and Brylie Anderson; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Swen Arneberg; step father, Gwendel Hanson; and grandparents, Asbjorn and Anne Arneberg and Selmer and Bernice Loland.

Honorary Pallbearers will be David's hunting and fishing buddies and his trucking friends.

Lester Jennings "Bud" Ashling

1920-2014

Lester 'Bud' Ashling, age 86, of Erskine, Minnesota passed away on Thursday (February 1st) at his home in Erskine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (February 7th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile, Minnesota. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine.

Lester 'Bud' Jennings Ashling was born on November 3, 1920, to John and Ida (Bennes) Ashling near Winger, Minnesota. He grew up on his family farm and went to the Hazel Hill Country School through the eighth grade, and then to McIntosh High School. Bud was baptized and confirmed at Faaberg Lutheran Church at Rindal, Minnesota.

In 1942 he enlisted in the Army. Of all of his duties in the service, he was most proud of being a dog trainer on Cat Island off the coast of Louisiana, and being a transport officer, ferrying officers with his Kriscraft from large ships onto the island of Hawaii. He received his honorable discharge on January 28, 1946, and returned to Winger, working on his parents' farm. Deciding to leave Minnesota, Bud went to Cody, Wyoming, and lived with Josie (Bennes) and Shannon Armstrong. He traveled back to Minnesota and married Ardis Highland in 1949.

Bud and Ardis established their home in Cody, and he worked for the Oregon Basin Mining Company in the oil drilling fields. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cody. Linda Joy was born on January 22, 1950, and Robert John was born on June 17, 1953. Bud opened a hamburger drive-in, the first in the state of Wyoming. After 16 years, he sold the drive-in in 1965 and they moved to California, where he worked in an aerospace and plane company. After several years they returned to Cody where Bud managed several supper clubs and, also, played country music with Ardis.

He was a bass player, and she was a guitar player and singer. Some of their highlights were playing music with Roy Rogers, Charlie Pride, Ray Price, and other entertainers who visited Cody. Ardis died in 1974, and after her death, Bud pursued his dream of being a gold miner in Apache Junction, Arizona, with Sandy Sanstead. But when the gold didn't pan out, he went to Seattle and, because of his heating and refrigeration skills, got a job at the Space Needle. He returned to Minnesota in the late 1980s, where he lived the rest of his life in Erskine. Bud was known for his woodworking; he made picnic tables for parks and decorative clocks for his friends. He was a member of the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine.

Bud had a colorful life, full of adventure. He loved being with his many friends, telling jokes, being in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was an excellent cook, and an accomplished musician.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Bill) French of Los Lunas, New Mexico; a son, Robert Ashling of Tijeras, New Mexico; a granddaughter, Sarah Joy Ashling, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother and sisters, Walter Ashling of Erskine; Hazel Nelson and Bernice (Ray) Sannes of Fertile; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardis; his parents, John and Ida; brother-in-law, Conrad Nelson; and sister-in-law, Betty Ashling.

Walter John Ashling

1923-2007

Walter Ashling, age 83, of Erskine, Minnesota, passed away on Monday (June 11th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston, Minnesota. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday (June 16th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Ernest Christensen officiating. Interment will be in Lima Cemetery, rural Erskine. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Flag presentation will be provided by the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in charge of the arrangements. Walter John Ashling was born on June 21, 1923 in Winger, Minnesota to parents John and Ida (Bennes) Ashling. He grew up and attended school in rural Winger.

He was united in marriage to Betty Mitchell on October 14, 1944. Following their marriage, they farmed for a couple of years near Winger prior to moving to South St. Paul, where they lived for the next 36 years. Walter served his country in United States Army from February of 1945 until his honorable discharge in June of 1946. Upon Walter's retirement, they moved back to Erskine where they since resided.

Walter loved going out to eat with his "buddy." He loved dancing and playing bingo with his wife Betty. He also loved to drive his car to auctions where he would purchase many treasures. He most of all loved spending time with his family.

Walter passed away peacefully loved by his entire family on Monday, June 11, 2007 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 83 years.

He is survived by two daughters, Bonny (Bill) Perkins of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Vanessa (Gary) Seils of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Brian (Jo) Perkins, Beth (Lee) Kwiatkowski, Jason (Jean) Seils and Melissa Seils; five great grandchildren, Connor Kwiatkowski, Kiel Kwiatkowski, Alaina Perkins, Hendrik Seils and Reiner Seils; two sisters, Hazel Nelson of Fertile, Minnesota and Bernice (Ray) Sannes of Fertile, Minnesota. Numerous other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty; his parents, John and Ida; and brother, Bud.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Walter's grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helga Sieglinde (Schrott) Aspen

1928-2012

Died: October 15, 2012

Helga Aspen, age 84, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Monday (October 15th) at Essentia Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (October 20th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (October 19th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Helga Sieglinde Schrott was born on March 22, 1928 in Vienna, Austria, to parents Otto and Johanna (Fischer) Schrott. She grew up and attended school in Austria. She met her future husband, Orville, when he was stationed there as part of the United States Army peacekeeping force following the end of World War II. After his discharge, Orville returned to the States and arranged for Helga to join him.

Helga and Orville were united in marriage on February 9, 1947 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. After their marriage, they lived on the north edge of Fosston, raised their five children, and owned and operated Oak Grove Hatchery. After the hatchery closed in 1965, Helga began work as a nurse's aide at the Fosston Hospital, continuing for over 35 years until her retirement.

Helga faithfully took care of Orville during his last years until his passing on July 26, 2006. After Orville passed away, Helga was a dedicated volunteer at the nursing home in Fosston.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. She enjoyed playing the piano and accordion and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, Orland (Linda) of Fosston, Frank (Marilyn) of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Gary (Kathy) of Blaine, MN; two daughters, Renee (Roger) Wittenberg of St. Cloud, MN, and Rebecca (Ronald) Ostrom of Lathrop, CA; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Amy, Melissa, Brian, Jonathan, Laura, Matthew, Michael, Kim, and Kyle; 12 great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, Gerhart and Helmut.

Twyla Viola Bacon

1930-2010

Twyla Bacon, age 80, from Fosston, Minnesota, and formerly from Erskine, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, August 6th at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston, with Pastor John Marx and Pastor David Dwyer officiating. Family and friends will gather for one hour prior to the service at the church. Twyla Viola Gross was born on a rural farmstead in Clark County, Wisconsin to parents Russell and Amanda (Andreg) Gross. She attended grade school in Spokerville, WI and high school at Loyal, WI. While attending Wessington Springs Jr. College in South Dakota she met her husband Forest C. Bacon. They were married August 14, 1948 and made their home in Mora, Minnesota, where they farmed. She was a lifelong member of Henriette Free Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for years, and was active with the youth groups and President of the Ladies' Missionary Society several times a witness to all of God's saving grace.

In 1981 they moved to Erskine, Minnesota, to be near their children and grandchildren. After Forest's death in 2001, Twyla moved to Fosston where she lived until the time of her passing. She attended Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston, and took part as she could.

Twyla Bacon passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 80 years.

She is survived by her three children, Russell (Patti) Bacon of Erskine, Marcelyn (Dennis) Nikolayson of Erskine, and Sterling Bacon of Killeen, TX; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Clouse of Corning, CA, and Marjorie Remple of Fresno, CA; brother Glen Gross of Corning, CA; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Bacon of Minneapolis, and Pearl Bacon of Stanchfield, MN; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Bacon; her parents, Russell and Amanda Gross; one brother, Wayne Gross; and one sister, Beverly Chittenden.

Mildred Evangeline (White) Bahnsen

1928-2012

Died: October 25, 2012

Mildred Bahnsen, age 83, of Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Thursday, October 25th at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. Memorial services for Mildred will be held at a later date, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston assisted with the arrangements.

Mildred Evangeline White was born December 26, 1928 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Homer and Clara (Bakken) White. She grew up in and attended Fosston schools. She married Delbert "Del" Bahnsen on October 12, 1949 and they lived in the Park Rapids, Minnesota area until his passing. Mildred was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston where she was a lifelong member.

On Thursday, October 25, 2012 Mildred passed away from complications of a stroke at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston at the age of 83 years.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Sylvia (Clem) Sorgaard, Elaine Wilcox, Janet Reierson, Dale (Patty) Lucken, Jane (Dennis Wasik) Lucken, and Tom (Stephanie) Lucken, along with many great nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two sisters, Lois (White) Lucken and Eleanor White, her nephew, Leroy Lucken, and her great niece, Suzanne (Sorgaard) Eichenberger.

A memorial service for our beloved Aunt Mildred is being planned by the family for a future date.

Robert Raymond Bak

1924-2012

Robert Bak, age 87, from McIntosh, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, January 25th at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31st at 2:00 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in McIntosh at a later date. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Raymond Bak was born on April 18, 1924 to parents Ole and Ida (Garden) Bak at Fertile, Minnesota. He attended country school in rural Fertile, and was baptized and confirmed at Sundal Lutheran Church.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1949 to 1951 as a Corporal before receiving his honorable discharge. Robert was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.

Robert was married to Elvina Fox on October 9, 1954 in Mahnomen, Minnesota. They made their home in McIntosh, Minnesota. He worked at the sugar beet factory in Crookston for many years, and was a police officer in McIntosh. Robert and Elvina had one son, Daniel.

Painting was his greatest hobby. He made many great scenic pictures in acrylics. Bob was an artist! He even made drawings while living at the nursing home.

On Wednesday, January 25, 2012 Robert passed away at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, where he had resided since June 2010, at the age of 87 years.

He is survived by a sister, Sybil Oakland of Fertile; two nieces, eight nephews, cousins, and two step-children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elvina in 2004; son, Daniel in 1994; brothers, Silas, Herbert, and Bertram; sisters, Ruth, Gloria, and Lorna; and step-son, Francis Fox.

Allen Lloyd Bakken

1936-2008

Born: January 18, 1936
Died: March 30, 2008

Allen Bakken, age 72, of rural Mentor, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, March 30th at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 4th at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church and interment will be at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston, Minnesota. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of arrangements.

Allen Lloyd Bakken was born on January 18, 1936 to parents Louis and Amanda (Olson) Bakken at Fosston, Minnesota. It was there he was raised and received his early education at the Moen Rural School, District 138.

Allen was united in marriage to Linda Lenhart on September 22, 1962 in Warren, Minnesota. To this union four children were born. They lived at Crookston, Owatonna, Kasson, Warren, Kennedy and Erskine, Minnesota before moving to their current home at rural Mentor, Minnesota in 1979.

Allen worked for the City of Crookston and for various farmers throughout his life.

He enjoyed deer hunting, ice fishing, woodworking, yard work, gardening and riding his Arctic Cat four wheeler.

On Sunday, March 30, 2008 Allen Bakken passed away at his home at the age of 72 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda Bakken of rural Mentor; his sons, Warren Bakken of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, Brian Bakken of Badger, Minnesota and Clayton Bakken of Mentor; his daughter, Janelle (Erick) Thoresen of Bagley, Minnesota; granddaughters, Jamie Bakken, Rachel Bakken and Kasie Bakken; brothers, Marvin (Harriet) Bakken of Breckenridge, Minnesota, Lowell Bakken of Crookston, Minnesota and Irving (Doria) Bakken of Frazee, Minnesota; sisters, Linda (Harvey) Jorgenson of Erskine, Minnesota and Lorraine (Manferd) Svedahl of Fosston, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Clarissa Helen (Fowler) Ballek

1971-2010

Clarissa Ballek, age 39, from Bagley, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, January 20th at First Care Hospital in Fosston, Minnesota as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 6th at 11:00 AM at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor Jon Marx and Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church one hour before the service, and interment of cremains will be at a later date at Island Lake Cemetery, rural Bemidji. Clarissa "Cris" Helen Fowler was born on January 20, 1971, in Bay City, Michigan to Frank and Judy (Northup) Fowler of Puposky, Minnesota. She grew up in the Pleasant Valley area, attending Pleasant Valley School, Bemidji Middle School and Bemidji High School. She worked toward her LPN in nursing at Bemidji and Thief River Vo Tech , graduating Magna Cum Laude from Thief River. Then she graduated with honors from Detroit Lakes as Registered Nurse.

Cris married Jeffrey Ballek March 5, 1988. During their marriage they lived mostly in the Bagley area and had five children. They were divorced in 2002 and Cris married Raymond Ballek of Bagley in April 2007. She worked in the North Country Regional Senior Mental Health area of the old Bemidji Hospital until the time of her death.

Cris loved her family, near and far, and enjoyed their annual family reunions in the Pleasant Valley area. She also loved animals and always had dogs, cats, and horses. But her first love was (and is) Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior and the pattern of her entire life revolved around her relationship with Him.

On Wednesday, January 20, 2010 Cris passed away at First Care Hospital in Fosston, Minnesota due to injuries sustained in a car accident. She was 39 years old.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Ballek; her grandmother, Helen Northup; her parents; her children; Emily (Paul) Munter, Aleza (Kevin) Johnson, Gretchen Ballek, Joseph Ballek and Corban Ballek; her brother, Frank (Bethany) Fowler; her sisters, Faith Binkley, Joanna (Jamie) Nesvold, and Beth (Ross) Trott; three grandchildren Terrance, Lincoln, and Aiden; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Vyron Northup; paternal grandparents, John "Joe" and Evelyn Fowler; and nephew, Jacob Binkley.

Her family loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed.

Juanita Irene (Kroening) Balstad

Juanita Balstad, age 76, from Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Friday, February 1st at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Juanita Irene Kroening was born on October 14, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Alfred and Virgie (Hilliard) Kroening. While she was growing up in Minneapolis she studied accordion at the McPhail School of Music. She attended school in Minneapolis until 1949 when she moved with her family to Sletten township rural Fosston, Minnesota. She graduated in 1954 from Fosston High School.

Juanita met Robert "Bud" Balstad Sr. while she was a waitress at the Little Cafe in Fosston. They were united in marriage on June 25, 1954. Following their marriage they resided on their family farm southwest of Fosston until 2008 at which time she moved into Cornerstone in Fosston. In 2011 she moved to First Care Nursing Home until her death. To this union five children were born.

Juanita retired from being an Avon representative in 2002 prior to that she also sold Artex Paints, Tri Chem Paints, and Watkins. She also wrote a column in the 13 Towns for several years but stopped doing it in 2002. She was a lifelong member of Kingo Lutheran Church and was a member of the Spring Lake VFW Auxiliary Post 2759 in Lengby, Minnesota. Juanita enjoyed traveling, tending her flower beds, playing cards, and playing her accordion at area nursing homes. She also enjoyed getting together with family and friends.

Juanita Balstad passed away on February 1, 2013 at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston, surrounded by family, at the age of 76 years

Survivors include two sons, Timothy (Joanne) of Fosston, Minnesota, and Robert Jr. (Peggy) of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota; three daughters, Susan Skaro (Dave Reuer) of Forman, North Dakota, Irene Johnson of Crookston, Minnesota, and Pamela (Scott) Hale of Beavercreek, OH; twelve grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Douglas (Joyce) Kroening of Andover, Minnesota; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Virgie; her husband, Robert Sr; one daughter, Carol Jean; one son, Gene Robert; one great grandchild, Kami Jo; three sisters, Patty Norberg, Delores Bakken, and Diane Dombrowski; and one brother, Roger Kroening.

Robert "Bud" Balstad

1926-2007

Robert "Bud" Balstad, age 81, of rural Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday (June 27th) at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (July 2nd) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (July 1st) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston.

Robert Gene Balstad was born on January 25, 1926 in rural Fosston, Minnesota to parents Rudolph and Ida (Galaason) Balstad. He grew up on the family farm south of Fosston, the oldest of five children, attending school through the eighth grade. He was baptized on March 20, 1926 and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston on June 29, 1941.

Bud was united in marriage to Juanita Kroening on June 25, 1954. Following their marriage, they resided on their family farm southwest of Fosston. To this union, five children were born. Bud retired from active farming in 1994.

He was a long time member of Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston and was a member of the Eagles Club in Thief River Falls. He liked fishing, traveling and watering the various plants throughout the house.

Robert "Bud" Balstad passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at his home in Rosebud Township at the age of 81 years.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita of rural Fosston; two sons, Timothy (Joanne) of Fosston, and Robert Jr. (Peggy) of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota; three daughters, Susan Skaro (Dave Reuer) of Milnor, North Dakota, Irene (Dwight) Johnson of Crookston, Minnesota, and Pamela (Scott) Hale of Barksdale, LA; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Mitzi) Balstad of Fosston; one sister, Marilyn (Darol) Melby of Bagley, Minnesota; and one aunt, Ruth Crum of Seattle, WA. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph "Boots" and Ida; one daughter, Carol Jean; one son, Gene Robert; one great grandchild, Kami Jo; and two sisters, Marjorie Olson and Maggie Hoyt.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Bud's grandchildren and great grandchildren Active Pallbearers will be Rick Balstad, Scott Balstad, Leroy Colsen, Elton Hilliard, Mitch Hilliard, and Mike Kroening.

Mildred Hildahl Bardshar

1918-2011

Mildred Hildahl Bardshar, age 93, of Thornton, Colorado, passed away on July 9, 2011 at her residence. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (August 20th) at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston with Rev. Paul Martinson officiating. Mildred was a sister of the late Alice Hildahl Carlin and Francis Hildahl. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston, Minnesota is assisting with the arrangements.

Mildred Hildahl was born on April 6, 1918, to Knute O. and Anna (Thompson) Hildahl in Fosston, Minnesota where she grew up and graduated from Fosston High School, class of 1936. After high school, she attended St. Olaf College for two years, beginning in the nursing program and switching to the social services program. She was employed by Polk County Social Services in Crookston, Minnesota until her marriage to Dr. Charles Edward (Doc) Bardshar on November 23, 1951.

They resided in Cass Lake, Minnesota, operating a fishing guide service during the warmer months of the year and in Mt. Hope, Kansas running a large animal veterinarian service during the colder months until his employment by the U.S. Department of Agriculture; they then moved around Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois and finally settled in Duluth Minnesota in 1963 until Doc's death in 1978. Shortly thereafter, Mildred moved to Mission, Texas where she remained until 2003, moving to her daughter's home in Thornton, Colorado.

Mildred began her service to the Lord as a member of Landstad Lutheran Church (now Hope Lutheran Church) in Fosston where her father was pastor, and remained active in various churches wherever she resided, notably First English Lutheran Church in Peoria, Illinois, Concordia Lutheran Church in Duluth, Minnesota, and Trinity Lutheran in Mission, Texas.

She served as state President of the Minnesota Lutheran Church Women and as President of Trinity Lutheran and was on the national Lutheran Church Women Board, as well as serving on church councils and as an elected delegate to many state and national conventions. Her love of music always found her in the church choirs and directing a children's choir and using her piano skills in substituting for the church organists when needed. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader in Duluth for many years, continuing even after her daughters had graduated from high school.

Mildred passed away on July 9, 2011 at her residence in Thornton, Colorado at the age of 93 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Bardshar-Mayo (Tom Mayo) of Colchester, Vermont and Joan Shipman (John Shipman) of Thornton, Colorado; five grandchildren, Kerry Slocum of Plymouth, Wisconsin, Sara Brooks of Williston, Vermont, Kassandra Slocum of Champlin, Minnesota, Matthew Jones of Burlington, Vermont and Brian Jones (Autumn Jones) of Essex Junction, Vermont; ten great grandchildren, Madaline Slocum, Victoria Slocum, Jesse Chandler-Slocum, Emilin Slocum, Jace Slocum, Ahlena Kranenberg, Nya Jones, Jayden Brooks, Aisling Slocum and Daxton Slocum; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Knute O. and Anna Hildahl, husband, Charles Edward Bardshar, sister, Alice Hildahl Carlin, and brother, Francis Hildahl.

Merle Gary Barstad

Merle Barstad, age 72, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, July 29th at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2nd at 4:00 PM at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Merle Gary Barstad was born on March 17, 1941 in Fosston, Minnesota, to parents Helmer and Lillian (Blomdahl) Barstad. He was united in marriage to Arlene Nelson on August 25, 1962, and they had three sons - Randy, Rorry, and James.

Merle worked for a time on the Iron Range, and also worked for the Highway Department in Crookston, Minnesota. In 1968, he began logging and owned a logging business. Merle loved hunting, spending time with his grandchildren on the farm, and driving around scouting for deer.

On July 29, 2013 Merle passed away at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston at the age of 72 years.

He is survived by his wife Arlene of Fosston; sons Randy (Kellie) Barstad of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Rorry Barstad of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and James (Kim) Barstad of Fosston. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Steven Barstad, Sara Barstad, Nicole Barstad, Sean Barstad, Catelin Barstad, Kylee Barstad, Connor Barstad, Christina Barstad, Mariah Manecke, Heather Barstad, and Caden Barstad; and great grandchildren, Wyatt Mueller, Aiden Grindeland, Matthew Barstad, Kayley Krohnfeldt, and Emma Barstad.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Dennis Barstad and Ronnie Barstad; and grandson James Barstad, Jr.

Henry Fredrick Herman Bartz

1913-2007

Died: July 26, 2007

Henry Bartz, age 94, of McIntosh, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday (July 26th) at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday (August 2nd) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Dean Bell officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday (August 1st) at the McIntosh Community Center. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh.

Henry Fredrick Herman Bartz was born in Holloway, Minnesota on February 24, 1913 to William and Emma (Polley) Bartz. He was baptized on March 20, 1913 in Holloway and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh on June 5, 1927. Henry was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Henry lived all his life in the McIntosh area. After leaving home he worked on the Marum farm until he married Orvilla Haugen on June 22, 1941. Henry and Orvilla made their home on the farm until December 1959 when they moved into town. Henry was proud of the fact that he and Orvilla were able to build their own home in McIntosh in 1962. Henry drove the school bus and the road grader for many years before finally retiring.

Henry died peacefully in his sleep at the Pioneer Care center on July 26, 2007 at the age of 94 years, 5 months and 2 days.

Surviving Henry are his children Judy Peterson of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Amy (Pastor Max) Schaefer of Tigard, OR, and Harris (Debbie) Bartz of Buffalo, NY. Grandchildren: Chris (Stephanie) Schaefer of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, Pastor Ted (Nancy) Schaefer of Buena Park, CA; Rebecca (Chris) Kurtz of Sauk Rapids, Minnesota; Merrit (Bill) Nelson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Charles (Loretta) Bartz serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq; Kattie (Marc) Blum of Rochester, NY; and Jason Bartz of Buffalo, NY. Great-grandchildren: Andrea, Chandler and Sarah Schaefer; Nathaniel and Hannah Schaefer, Tasha Kurtz and Mariah Bartz. Also surviving are his brothers Clifford of McIntosh, and Harold (Beverly) Bartz of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; and his sisters Jeanne (Lyle) Puffe of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Margaret Proehl of Glencoe, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

Henry is preceded in death by an infant daughter in July 1945 and his wife, Orvilla on March 23, 1996, his parents, William and Emma Bartz; his brothers Richard, Edwin and Raymond; sisters Loretta, Dorothy, Wilma, Helen and Esther.

Pallbearers are all nephews of Henry: Clayton Bartz, Curtis Bartz, Jim Pederson, Lowell Haugen, Greg Bartz and Sidney Fjerstad

Ruth Blanche (Hardin) Bauer

1921-2009

Died: September 15, 2009

Ruth Bauer, age 88, of McIntosh, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday (September 15th) at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (September 18th) at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, rural Mentor, Minnesota with Monsignor Roger Grundhaus presiding. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Bejou, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on the day of the service at the church. Ruth Blanche (Hardin) Bauer was born July 24, 1921. Her parents and place of birth have always been a question. Ruth was abandoned at the age of 2 years and lived with Aaron and Jesse Hardin of Maquoketa, Iowa. At the age of 5 yrs, Ruth was taken in by a family and met her "sister," life-long friend Virginia Powelka. They continued to be close to the present time.

Ruth met Leo, while he was working as a hired hand for the family she lived with in Iowa. After a time of courting through letters, they were married on July 6, 1941. They packed up and moved to a farm near Waubun, Minnesota. There, three sons were born, Leo, Al, and Tom. In 1948 they moved again to a farm near Mahnomen. Five daughters, Theresa, Mary, Marty, Joanne and Rose were born. Two additional children, Antoinette and Michael were born, but did not survive.

The family sold the farm and moved to McIntosh, Minnesota in 1965. Leo opened Bauer Machine Shop and Ruth was a full time Mother and Grandmother.

Ruth's most important things in life were her eight children, eighteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She always enjoyed holding the new addition to the family and looked forward to the next one.

Ruth was always a very friendly person who would help anyone with getting their mail, groceries, or other errands. She made many friends by helping and never complaining. She was always there to help, whether family or friend.

Leo and Ruth moved to Poplar Meadows in January of 2003. They became settled in their new home with many new friends. Leo passed away in 2006 and Ruth continued to live at Poplar Meadows until June of 2009. After some medical problems, she made McIntosh Manor her new home and met several people that she had lost contact with and not seen for awhile. She was happy with every move.

Ruth passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at McIntosh Manor Senior Living in McIntosh, Minnesota at the age of 88 years and 2 months.

Left to mourn her passing are three sons: Leo (Fern) Bauer of Grandin ND, Al Bauer of Erskine MN, Tom (Becky) Bauer of Prescott Valley AZ; five daughters: Theresa (Tom) Horgeshimer of McIntosh MN, Mary (Virgil) Lerfald of McIntosh MN, Marty (Dan) Malone of McIntosh MN, JoAnne (Robert) Martin of Winger MN, Rose Uebe (Ron Hanson) of Fosston, Minnesota; a Special Sister-Virginia Powelka of Mechanicsville IA; a special niece-Patti Halfaker of Grand Rapids MN; eighteen grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is greatly missed by her family at Poplar Meadows and McIntosh Manor.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Leo (2006); children, Antoinette (1960) and Michael (1962); Grandsons, Nick Lerfald (1996) and Thomas (1998); Great grandson, Kyle Bauer (1985).

We are all comforted knowing she is now in paradise, especially knowing she is with our Dad. She is happy again. We shall see them in time. Blessed be her memory.

May her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Jeremy Tim Baumann

1986-2011

Jeremy Baumann, age 25, from Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, December 7th at Riverview Hospital in Crookston. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15th at 1:00 PM at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor Verlyn Strenge and Pastor John Marx officiating. A prayer service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the church, with visitation to follow until the time of the funeral at 1:00 PM. All services are at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at the Bagley City Cemetery in Bagley, Minnesota, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Jeremy Tim Baumann was born on June 10, 1986 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to parents Kevin Baumann and Valerie (Haugen) Bower.

At the age of 13 he gave his heart to the Lord at Bethel Assembly Church. Attending youth group and church was an important part of his life.

He attended school in Fosston and Bagley and graduated from Crookston High School in 2005.

He was previously married to Jessica Propst, during that marriage he was blessed with a beautiful daughter, Isabella Sophia Baumann.

In May of 2011, Jeremy began his battle with Fibrolamellar Variant Hepatocellular Carcinoma, a rare type of Liver Cancer. Despite the diagnosis, Jeremy still looked forward to a bright future which included a marriage to Seneca (Bonzelet) Baumann.

Jeremy worked several jobs in his life which started at a young age with a paper route. Up until his diagnosis he had been employed with Specialty Products as a shift lead.

Jeremy's main focus in life was his family, mainly his daughter. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending quality time with his friends. Making people smile or laugh was an important part of his personality.

Jeremy passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston, Minnesota at the age of 25 years, 5 months and 27 days with the love of his family surrounding him.

Jeremy is survived by his loving wife Seneca Baumann, of Fosston, Minnesota, beloved daughter Isabella, of Fosston, Minnesota, mother Valerie (Denny) Bower, of Fosston, Minnesota, father Kevin (Karen) Baumann of Bagley, Minnesota, sister Sheena (Fredrick) Halliwell, of Fosston, Minnesota, sister Kayla Baumann, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, brother Santos Bower, of Crookston, Minnesota and sister Lori Bower, of Fosston, Minnesota, mother and father-in-law Peter and Patricia Bonzelet of Foley, Minnesota; also survived by several step-siblings and in-laws. Grandparents Leif and DeVona Haugen of Bagley, Minnesota, grandmother Myrtle Baumann, of Bagley, Minnesota, great grandmother Diley Bergeson, of Bagley, Minnesota. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends; including special friend Jennifer Brill-Korinta of Fosston, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his great grandfather Lester Bergeson, grandfather Floyd Baumann, uncle Steve (Buck) Haugen and cousin Shawn Haugen.
