Sylvia Scott

Sylvia Scott, 91, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Sylvia Marie Bergan was born on May 20, 1923 in rural Alvarado, MN, the daughter of Elling and Mary (Nordstrom) Bergan. She was raised in the Alvarado area where she attended school. On March 1, 1944, she married Hamlin "Hamie" Nordlund. They made their home in rural Alvarado. Hamlin died on June 24, 1967. Sylvia worked at Kmart from 1967 - 1973. Sylvia married Marion "Buck" Scott on July 14, 1973 and they made their home in Grand Forks. Marion died in April of 1989. Sylvia worked at AmericInn Hotel from 1998 until she retired in 2012.

She was a former member of Elim Lutheran Church and a member of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Sylvia loved to paint and do crafts. She enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends and going to the Grand Forks Senior Center and the Love Feast at Zion United Methodist Church.

Left to mourn her passing are a daughter, Corinne Jenkins of Alvarado, MN; grandson Christopher Jenkins of Alvarado, Minnesota; great-granddaughters, Karissa and McKenzie; three stepchildren, Carol (Ray) Radke of Dilworth, MN, Curtis (Kaye) Scott of Atlanta, GA and Myron (Karla) Scott of Grand Forks, North Dakota; stepdaughter-in-law, Betty Lou Scott of Park Rapids, Minnesota; nine step grandchildren; thirteen step great-grandchildren; sister, Dolly Erickson of Warren, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and special family members, Wendell and Michal Sands of Alvarado, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Hamlin and Marion; son-in-law, Gordy Jenkins; sister, Bernice Cook and brother, Milford Bergan.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

VISITATION: One hour before services.

INTERMENT: 2:00 PM on Wednesday at Elim Lutheran Cemetery, rural Alvarado, Minnesota

Alice Thelma (Satran) Larson

1925-2014

December 2, 2014

ALEXANDRIA, Minnesota - Alice Larson, 89, Erskine, Minnesota, died Tuesday in Grand Arbor under the care of hospice.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine. Rev. Timothy Lundeen will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery near Erskine.

Alice Thelma (Satran) Larson 1925-2014

Alice Larson, age 89 from Erskine, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, December 2nd at Grand Arbor in Alexandria, Minnesota, under the care of hospice. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 8th at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church on Monday morning, and interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine. Alice Thelma (Satran) Larson was born on March 28, 1925 in Fosston, Minnesota, the daughter of Albert and Thea (Bye) Satran. She grew up in Fosston and graduated from high school there. Alice was united in marriage to Gale Larson on July 27, 1946. Together they started a mink ranch and also farmed. They moved to Erskine, Minnesota in 1952 when Gale started to work with his father, Oscar, at the American State Bank.

Alice was a dedicated wife and mother. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and served many years as Ladies Aide President. She also enjoyed quilting, her knitting machine, as well as fishing and traveling.

On Tuesday, December 2, 2014 Alice passed away at Grand Arbor in Alexandria, Minnesota, under the care of hospice, at the age of 89 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Jerry (Sandy) Larson of Cold Spring, Minnesota and Michael (Char) Larson of Moorhead, Minnesota; daughter Vicki (Scott) Johnston of Alexandria, Minnesota; sister Aggie (John) Cook of Grand Forks, North Dakota; sister-in-law Maureen Larson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; seven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Thea; husband Gale; brother Palmer Satran and wife Violet; sister Bella Munson and husband Russell; and brothers-in-law Roger Larson and Merle Larson and his wife Priscilla.

Blessed be her memory.

Gloria "Elaine" Tureson

1918-2014

Elaine Tureson, 96, of Hallock, Minnesota passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, rural Fertile, Minnesota on November 27, 2014.

Gloria Elaine Tureson was born in Shannon City, Iowa, April 29, 1918 to Allan and Winnie (Baker) Madison. She was the oldest of ten children. She spent the first few years in Flaxton, North Dakota, moving to Sarles, North Dakota then to Lancaster, Minnesota., graduating there from high school in 1937. On November 18, 1937 she was married to Eddie Tureson of Hallock.

Elaine was a very dedicated volunteer; helped with the Hallock Nutrition site for 19 years, then volunteered at Kittson Memorial Nursing Home, delivering popcorn for the Home every week for 30 years. In 1996 she was chosen as "Kittson County Outstanding Senior Citizen" and attended the MN State Fair. In 1998, she received the distinguished award of Minnesota Health and Housing Alliances statewide "Volunteer/Auxillian of the Year". For over 30 years Elaine baked cookies for Kittson Memorial Hospital and Nursing home, retiring at age 90.

She is survived by sons Allan (Jeannie) of Portland, Texas, Larry (Diane) of Duluth, Minnesota, James (Judy) of Jeffersonville, Indiana, daughter Betty (Steve) Ness of Erskine, Minnesota. Also surviving are 13 grandkids and 24 great grandkids along with sisters, Louvic Mattson & Marge Madison of Roseau, Minnesota and brother, Mike (Marie) Madison of Lakeland, Florida, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, husband Eddie in 1976, siblings, Don, Hartley, Irwin, Verna, Emily and an infant sister.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Lancaster Covenant Church. Interment will be held in the spring. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, Elaine had requested that memorials be directed to the Lancaster Covenant Good News Youth Group, The Gideons or to a charity of your choice.

Colleen Marie Hildahl

1959-2014

Colleen Marie Hildahl, 55, formerly of West Fargo, North Dakota, and East Grand Forks MN.

After a lifelong battle with Multiple Sclerosis, her strong heart stopped beating Nov. 25.

She was born to Patricia & Curtis Hildahl on March 17th, 1959. She graduated from West Fargo High School in 1977 after being active with the pom pon team, choir, Carolers. She graduated from NDSSS in Wahpeton, North Dakota.

She was married to Don Zimmerman from 1983-2005 while living in East Grand Forks where they raised their two children. She enjoyed being a homemaker & a mother, was proud of her children & loved spending time with them & hearing about their lives. She worked for Grand Forks Glass & Paint & Grand Forks Park District. She enjoyed going to church regularly all of her life, & for 30 years she supported the Christian Children's Fund & was involved in other social causes such as Heifer International to end hunger & poverty.

She moved to Minneapolis in 2008 where she could be closer family & was active at the MS Achievement Center, The Courage Center & activities through Scenic Hills Group Home. Colleen had a wonderful sense of humor & wit. Up until the end, she maintained that she was "as healthy as a horse except for this damn MS."

She leaves son Andrew Zimmerman (Pullman, WA); daughter Amanda Zimmerman (Minneapolis, Minnesota); two sisters, Margaret (Rob) London (Minneapolis, Minnesota) & Maria (Scott Jacobs) Shea (Cottage Grove, Minnesota); brother, Clayton (Kelly) Hildahl (Cottonwood, AZ); & parents Patricia & Curtis Hildahl (Fargo, North Dakota).

A service will be held at the MS Achievement Center, St. Paul, Tuesday, 12/2, 1:30 pm, MS Achievement Center, St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be sent to MS Achievement Center 2200 University Ave. W St. Paul MN 55114

Dale Francis Agnes

Born: May 13, 1960

Dale Agnes, age 54 of Powder Springs, Georgia, and formerly from Gully, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia. A memorial Mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday (December 5th) at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee with Father Bill DeCrans presiding. Interment will be in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Trail. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Dale Francis Agnes was born on May 13, 1960 to parents Vincent and Geraldine (Pladsen) Agnes. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Charles Catholic Church in Trail, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm north of Gully and graduated from Fosston High School in 1978.

Dale was united in marriage to Darci Olson and moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked for Ronco Irrigation. He later purchased the company and ran it until his son, Dustin, took over in 2007. Dale continued to work beside his sons until his passing.

Dale loved spending time with his two sons, Dustin and Josh, and his grandson, Liam. He loved telling him about his family in Minnesota and teaching him about tractors and heavy equipment. He also enjoyed watching sports, fishing, and playing with his two dogs. Dale loved his family and despite the distance always helped in any way he could to make sure all his family in Minnesota were taken care of. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his kind and caring heart.

Dale passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia surrounded by his family after suffering a stroke on November 19th.

Dale is survived by his sons, Dustin (Melissa) Agnes of Kennesaw, GA and Joshua (Jacqueline) Agnes of Powder Springs, GA; his grandson, Liam Agnes; parents, Vincent and Geraldine Agnes of Gully, Minnesota; brothers, Brian (Kelly) Agnes of Cotton, Minnesota, Jerry Agnes of Gully, Minnesota, and Kevin Agnes of Gully, Minnesota; sisters, Connie (Greg) Eck of Trail, Minnesota and Heidi (Noel) Wagner of Trail, Minnesota; and aunt Marian Weber of Fosston, Minnesota. Nine nieces and nephews; eight great nieces and nephews and many cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his brother, James Agnes; aunt, Sharon Lund; uncles, Francis Weber and Lyle Lund; cousin, Karen Bushelle; and great niece, Hallie Hoeft.

Bruce "Brutus" Fritz

1955-2014

Bruce "Brutus" Fritz, Park Rapids, Minnesota, and formerly of McIntosh, Minnesota, age 59, died on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at his residence in Oklee, Minnesota, with his brother, John at his side.

Funeral service to celebrate the life of Bruce Fritz will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, Minnesota, with his brother, Bob Fritz presiding. Burial will be at Emardville Cemetery, Plummer, Minnesota. Military honors will be provided by the Plummer American Legion Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer serviceon Friday, November 28, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, Minnesota.

Bruce Arthur Fritz was born on June 13, 1955 in Bagley, Minnesota, the son of William “Bill” and Beryl (Poppler) Fritz. He was baptized into Christian faith and confirmed at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church in McIntosh, Minnesota and also attended school in McIntosh.

In 1973, Bruce enlisted into service with the United States Army and in December was deployed to Germany where he spent the remainder of his duty. Following his Honorable Discharge, Bruce returned to McIntosh briefly before embarking on a lifetime of many adventures. Some of those adventures include truck driving, construction, and painting water towers. He was a talented woodworker and machinist and could even build a house.

His most recent job was a caretaker and jack-of-all-trades at Campers Paradise near Nevis, Minnesota, this was a job which Bruce dearly loved. This job led to a gift of two camping lots from Bruce’s employer to invite family to celebrate his birthday. This annual event which started in 2006 has grown in eight years to almost 100% family attendance and is now referred to as “Uncle Bruce’s Gathering Of The Kin.”

Bruce traveled throughout the United States on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and rode with the Boozefighters Motorcycle Club Chapter 42. Bruce was proud of his sobriety. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, bow hunting and riding and training horses. His nieces and nephews and great-nieces & nephews were the joy of his life.

Survivors include his mother, Beryl Fritz of McIntosh, Minnesota; father, Bill (Eva) Fritz of Osage, Minnesota; siblings, Bev Aakhus of Plummer, Minnesota, Bill (Valerie) Fritz, Jr., Bob (DeeDee) Fritz all of McIntosh, Minnesota, Bud Fritz of Fargo, North Dakota and John (Dawn Tepley) Fritz of St. Paul, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Paul (Laura Evans) Aakhus of Erskine, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Michael Poppler, Blanche Poppler, Alex Fritz & Viola Howard; and niece, Julie Fritz.

Evelina Casavan of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, age 93, died peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota with Father Bill DeCrans presiding. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, November 21, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Evelina Zhorela was born on February 9, 1921 in Farley Township, Polk County near Tabor, Minnesota to parents Joseph and Nettie (Kovar) Zhorela. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She grew up on farms near Tabor and Euclid, Minnesota and attended country school.

She was united in marriage to Jesse Casavan Sr. on May 11, 1939 in Crookston, Minnesota. They lived in Crookston a few years and later moved to farm in Louisville and Wylie Townships in Red Lake County. She spent most of her time home working on the farm and raising their family of 8 children. In 1956 they moved off the farm to Red Lake Falls, Minnesota.

She was employed there at St. Johns Hospital as a dietary aide, in which she specialized in her cooking and baking. She took pride in her work. She loved working with the Sisters of St. Benedict and staff. She spent 28 years working at the hospital until it closed in 1984, she then retired.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Ladies Guild and St. Annes group. In later years she took the opportunity to travel and go on outings when she had the chance with family whether it was near or far. She and her family referred to her as a "roadrunner." She worked hard as a homemaker gardening, cooking, and canning. When Evelina was cooking or doing dishes she would hum "Blue Skirt Waltz" or "Nicolina." She enjoyed spending time socializing with her children and families. She took pride in putting together great meals for family gatherings and you could always expect to see one of her specialty jello salads served. She loved her sweets and ice cream and would be sure to share it with her company. She had a genuine way about her leaving us with her memorable life sayings; such as "a woman's work is never done" and "not everyone can be the winner." In her 93 years of life she always made a conscious effort to maintain good health and a strong heart.

Evelina lived in her home in Red Lake Falls until she moved to McIntosh Senior Living in June of 2013.

She is survived by seven children, Helen Wavra of Crookston, Gloria (Ray) Delorme of Red Lake Falls, Jesse Jr. (Dianne) Casavan of Red Lake Falls, Carol (Larry) Fontaine of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Larry Casavan of Red Lake Falls, Ed Casavan of Red Lake Falls, John (Janet) Casavan of Salol, Minnesota; 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jesse Sr.; daughter Marlene; four brothers, Albert, Joseph, Willie, Frank Zhorela; seven sisters, Lily Barvzak, Albina Vasek, Annie Jacobs, Francis Jeuch, Elise Fillian and two infant sisters Emily and Milly; son-in-law Kenneth Wavra; and granddaughter Brenda Wavra.

Juanita Stuhaug, age 68 of rural Erskine, Minnesota passed away on Saturday (November 22nd) at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Juanita Marie Lecy Stuhaug was born on November 6, 1946 in Mahnomen, Minnesota to parents Alfred and Elizabeth "Betty" Christianson Lecy. She grew up in Winger and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1964. She then attended Interstate Business College in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Juanita was united in marriage to Charles Stuhaug on April 17, 1965. After their marriage, they lived and worked in Bagley, Minnesota for 38 years. During those years, Juanita worked as a legal secretary at Rasmussen Law Office and for the Clearwater County Attorney's Office in Bagley while Chuck was a teacher and coach at Bagley High School. Juanita retired in 2006 due to health concerns.

She enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading and sports, especially watching her grandchildren play sports. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Charles, of Erskine, Minnesota; three children, Lisa (Larry) Bellefy of Bagley, Kristina (Darrin) Faldet of Erskine, and Tony (Heidi) Stuhaug of Erskine; 10 grandchildren, Shane, Austin, and Paige Bellefy; Dustin, Devin, and Kinlee Faldet; Peyton, Madison, Kolton, and Clare Stuhaug; and two great grandchildren, Brylee and Ariella.

Also surviving is her sisters, Karen Schimanski of Fosston, Avonne Trelstad of Moorhead, Minnesota; brothers, Tim (Karen) Lecy of Erskine and Floyd Lecy of Moorhead, Minnesota; and her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Stuhaug of Erskine. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Russ Anderson; three brothers and one sister.

Joel Norris Thormodsgard was born on May 11, 1943 to Norris and Raeburn (Randall) Thormodsgard in Bismarck, North Dakota. Joel attended grade school in Bowden, North Dakota and a little country school near Canton, SD. He graduated from Canton High School in 1961.

On January 11, 1962 Joel became a dedicated member of the United States Air Force. During an assignment to K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI Joel found the young woman he would spend the rest of his life with. Joel and Charlene “Charlie” Mercier were married January 18, 1964 in Garden, Michigan before being deployed to Japan. Joel retired in 1988 as a Chief Master Sergeant after 26 years of faithful service to our country. Joel and Char enjoyed 50 wonderful years together prior to his passing.

Joel’s hobbies included camping, touring the US in their RV, watching his favorite sports on TV, Fox News, woodworking, and visiting with his dear friends and family.

On Thursday, November 20, 2014 Joel passed away at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa, AZ at the age of 71 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1996, his father in 2000, sister-in-law Debbie (Hudson) Thormodsgard in 1993 and his grand nephew Brady Dean in 1993.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Charlene and their two sons and daughters-in-law: Dale (Patti) Thormodsgard, Erskine, Minnesota; Chop (Penny) Thormodsgard, Eatonville, WA; four grandchildren Tiffani, Kyrstan, Jessica, and Joel; two great grandchildren, Carson and Dallon; one brother Danny (Dee) Thormodsgard; two sisters Mary (Bill) Bretey, Linda (Dale) Helenius; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved with all his heart.

Gloria Jean (Hanson) Bauer

Gloria Bauer, age 70, of Erskine, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday (November 9th) at McIntosh Senior Living in McIntosh, Minnesota. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (November 13th) at St. Marys Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Manny Sundaram presiding. Interment will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery Hansville, rural Fosston. Gloria Jean Hanson Bauer was born on January 13, 1944 in Crookston, Minnesota to parents Sydney and Alta Simonson Hanson. She spent much of her childhood traveling throughout Minnesota attending various schools. She was baptized and confirmed at Rodnes Lutheran Church, rural Erskine, and graduated from Erskine High School in 1962. She was Secretary-Treasurer of her graduating class and was active in the choir, library club and Senior class play. After graduation, she attended business college in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. After completing her education, she was employed as secretary to the C.E.O. of Detroiter Mobile Homes in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota.

On July 6, 1963 she married David Bauer at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor, Minnesota. Four children, Michael, Kathryn, Merry and Christopher were added to this union as they made their home in Erskine. Gloria worked as a cook along side her mother at the Erskine School from 1977-1987. For many years she worked as caregiver and was known as 'grandma' to many area children. Her arms as well as her heart were always open. Gloria loved to bake, especially during the Holiday season. She was an avid reader, an accomplished seamstress and wonderful cook. She liked to travel, and was very fond of the annual trips she and David would take to Yuma, Arizona.

Gloria entered McIntosh Senior Living on August 18, 2014, battling illness until the time of her passing on November 9, 2014 at the age of 70 years.

She is survived by her husband, David of Erskine; two children, Michael (Debbie) of Tomah, WI, and Merry (Justin) Spivey of Crookston, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Lauren, Zachary, Hayden, Kaitlin, Hailey, Christian, and Caralie; four step grandchildren, Jennifer, Randi, Levi, and Ronnie; four great grandchildren; her sister, Marvelyn (Darrel) Johnson of McIntosh, Minnesota; and her brother, Rick (Tami) Hanson of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Diane Pederson of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; and brother-in-law, Joseph Bauer of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota; and honorary grandson, Calvin Hill; Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Kathryn; son, Christopher; and her brother, Ron.

Ed Swenson, age 80, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday (November 6th) at Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday (November 10th) at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lengby, Minnesota with the Rev. Mark Faugstad officiating. Interment will be in Cross Lake Cemetery, rural Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the Spring Lake V.F.W. Edwin Leon Swenson was born on August 7, 1934 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Hans and Louisa Jensen Swenson. He grew up in Fosston and attended school at Fosston High School. He entered the United States Air Force in March of 1953, serving in Korea and two tours in Vietnam.

Upon returning home, he continued his military career in several locations around the United States. He was married to Patricia Sellers on March 15, 1962 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. He received his retirement out of the Grand Forks Air Force Base in April of 1976.

After his military retirement, Ed worked in refrigeration maintenance at Simplot in Grand Forks while Pat was employed at Sears in Grand Forks. They built a home east of Fosston in Columbia Township and relocated there in 1984. In October of 2009, they sold their home and moved in to Fosston.

Ed was diagnosed with cancer in July of 2014 and, since August, has been living at the Twin Valley Living Center in Twin Valley, Minnesota.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lengby, the Spring Lake V.F.W. Post #2759, and the Fosston and Grand Forks American Legions and was an avid gun collector.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat of Fosston; daughter, Linda Swenson of Eugene, OR; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

William "Bill" Aaland

1955-2014

Bill Aaland, age 59, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 2nd at his home near Fosston. William "Bill" Aaland was born on August 8, 1955, the son of Norman and Phyllis (Werner) Aaland, in Langdon, North Dakota. He grew up and attended school in Larimore, North Dakota and went on to attend Mayville State College. Bill married Carol Steffan in 1977. They moved to Carrington, North Dakota where Bill taught school. In 1985 he went back to pursue a degree in physical therapy at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. He worked in Aberdeen, South Dakota and in 1992 they moved to Fosston, Minnesota where they continued to raise their family. Bill worked as a physical therapist for 24 years and loved working with his clients.

Although Bill had MS, he remained active, playing golf, fishing, and helping others whenever he could. He took great pride in his home by the lake and loved working outdoors. He loved making others laugh and was known for his jokes and magic tricks.

On Sunday, November 2, 2014 Bill passed away unexpectedly at his home near Fosston at the age of 59 years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carol of Fosston; four children, Alisa Aaland (Josh Sagvold) of Sheldon, North Dakota, Brian Aaland (Melissa Green) of Fargo, North Dakota, Crystal Aaland of West Fargo, North Dakota, and Michelle Aaland (Matt Kimball) of Watford City, North Dakota; three grandchildren, Aubrey Aaland, Lexi Aaland and Charlie Ann Aaland, all of Sheldon, North Dakota; sister, Christine (Gerald) Steffan; brothers, David Aaland, Harold (Lea) Aaland, and Mark (Pam) Aaland; many nieces and nephews; aunt Gen Klein; and uncle, Carl (Delores) Aaland.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Donna Lorain (Axelson) Salvhus

Donna Salvhus, age 74 of St. Cloud, Minnesota passed away on Sunday (November 2nd) at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, North Dakota. Donna Lorain Axelson was born on July 6, 1940 in Crookston, Minnesota to parents Royal Axelson and Alice (Beauchene) Axelson. As a schoolgirl growing up in Crookston, Donna helped out on the family farm and assisted her mother in creating costumes for the annual winter shows in Crookston.

Donna married Andrew Throndson Salvhus on November 27, 1957. They raised their three daughters in Michigan, Minnesota and North Dakota. After their youngest graduated from high school, Donna and Andy relocated to Alaska, where they enjoyed the natural splendor of the Alaskan territory and its peoples. When they left Alaska, they spent a few years in the Pacific Northwest before retiring to Minnesota. They were living in St. Cloud when Andrew passed away in 2002. Donna remained in St. Cloud until 2012 when she moved to Fargo, North Dakota.

Donna was creative and resourceful, making life interesting and memorable for those around her. She enjoyed sewing, cake decorating, reading and rosmaling. A talented baker and seamstress, Donna sewed wedding and bridesmaid's dresses and created the wedding cakes for all three of her daughters. This was quite a feat considering that much of the work two Minnesota weddings was performed for while she and Andy were living in Alaska. Above all, Donna enjoyed spending time with her family.

Donna passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo at the age of 74 years.

Survivors include her three daughters, Jennifer (Ken) Benzel, Cheryl (Glen) Meyer, and Cynthia (Steven) Curtis; three grandchildren, Thess Benzel, Emily Meyer and Clarissa Meyer; two siblings, Louise Hoff and Linda (Fred) Elsnau.

Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Andrea Axelson and Elly Axelson, Betty (Bill) Bingham, and Laura Evans.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three siblings: Bob Axelson, Carol Schwede, and Dick Axelson; and brothers-in-law, Hilmer 'Red' Hoff and Frank Schwede.

Geraldine Avonelle (Trogstad) Thoreson

Geraldine Thoreson, age 90 of Fosston, Minnesota, peacefully went to Heaven on Friday, October 31st while at Good Samaritan in Clearbrook, Minnesota, with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 AM at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Alan Arneson officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church on Saturday morning. Geraldine Avonelle Trogstad was born May 23, 1924 in Albert Lea, Minnesota to Selma (Anderson) and Henry Trogstad. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up on a farm at Fosston, Minnesota and graduated from Fosston High School in 1942.

In 1944 she married Irvin Thoreson, where they farmed north of Gully, Minnesota. Together they raised two children, Sonja and Judy.

In 1979 Geraldine moved to Fosston where she worked, enjoyed gardening, received "Beautification Award" for her well kept home and flower gardens. She was also a seamstress of perfection, and very creative in her workings. She was a woman of strong faith and an active member of the Lutheran Free Church, and sang in the community choir. The past two years she made her home at Cornerstone Assisted Living in Fosston.

On Friday, October 31, 2014 Geraldine peacefully went to Heaven while at Good Samaritan in Clearbrook, Minnesota with her family by her side, at the age of 90 years.

Geraldine is survived by her daughter Judy (Jerry) Haugen, granddaughters Stacy (Gary) Nordlund, and JeNelle Haugen, grandsons Jason Haugen, and Scott (Lisa) Brovold, six great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Hazel Trogstad, nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Selma and Henry Trogstad, daughter Sonja Brovold, four brothers Newman, Herbert, LaVern, and Sidney Trogstad and one sister Violet (Melvin) Sundrud.

Blessed be her memory, she is now "Safely Home."

Richard Duane Aaker

Richard Aaker, age 75 from Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, August 15th at Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 23rd at 2:00 PM at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with Pastor Alan Arneson officiating. Richard "Dick" Duane Aaker was born on July 20, 1937 in Northwood, North Dakota to parents Herman and Esther (Indergard) Aaker. Richard was a member of Laborers International Union of North Dakota and he enjoyed the flea market circuit.

On Wednesday, August 15, 2012 Richard passed away at Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, at the age of 75 years.

He is survived by one son, Ryan of Crookston, Minnesota; one sister, Elizabeth (Jerry) Pederson of Kandiyohi, Minnesota; one brother, David (Ardis) Aaker of Willmar, Minnesota; and several nephews and nieces.

His was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Esther; and one brother, Herbert.

Clarence John Agnes

Clarence Agnes, age 80, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, September 27th at his home under the care of hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 1st at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Dave Super presiding. Interment will be in St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Trail, Minnesota. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, September 30th, and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday, all at St. Marys Catholic Church. Clarence John Agnes was born to Martha (Brandt) Agnes and Nicholas "Nick" Henry Agnes in Fosston, Minnesota on May 18, 1931. He was raised on a farm in Hillriver Township. He attended elementary school in Trail, MN, and graduated from Gonvick High School. Clarence was always interested in drama and music. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Charles Catholic Church near Trail.

After graduation he attended a summer session at Mayville College. He spent some time as an orderly at St. Vincents in Crookston and as a taxi driver.

After his father's death he purchased a house in Fosston so his grandfather, mother and younger brothers would have a place to live.

He enlisted in the Air Force and worked as a chef and a meteorologist. He was diagnosed with MS and returned to Fosston. Despite his handicap he did odd jobs in various stores. He enjoyed his time at Mark's Corner Drug until he could no longer take the physical demands of his job.

Clarence and his younger brothers delivered the Grand Forks Herald for a number of years. He arranged his last stop at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and served daily Mass for Frs. Monroe, Felion, or visiting priests. He was often called on to chauffeur them to various meetings or events. He also sang in the choir. He served as trustee in the new St. Mary's Church during the building of the new addition and also was a greeter at the door.

Clarence was an active member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), American Legion, and VFW in McIntosh where he was commander for a number of years. He enjoyed his membership in a CB club and made many lifelong friends. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and thanks to many caring people was able to participate in TEC and Cursillo. He was elected Justice of the Peace in Fosston and served until the office was abolished.

On Tuesday, September 27, 2011 Clarence passed away at his home in Fosston, surrounded by his family and under the care of hospice, at the age of 80 years, 4 months, and 9 days.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father and mother, sister Marcella, brother Harold, brother-in-law Joe Fesko, sister-in-law Susan Agnes, nephew Mark Fesko, and many uncles and aunts.

He is survived by two brothers Charles and Ernest of Fosston, sister Bernice Fesko of Indiana, God Daughter Catherine Agnes Lofstrand, and many nieces and nephews that always brightened his days. Saturday mornings were made special by his phone chats with Fr. Pat Sullivan, Jim and Jan Rude and Harry Ness. When asked how things were going he always cheerfully replied, not so bad. May he rest in peace.

Debbie Lynn (Korsmoe) Agnes

Deborah Lynn Korsmoe was born to parents Wilhelm and Vernice Jorgenson Korsmoe on September 9, 1947 in Bagley, Minnesota. She attended grade school in McIntosh and Mentor and then high school in Gonvick, graduating in 1965. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo. On June 18, 1966 she married Orlean Agnes at St. Charles Catholic Church in Trail. After their marriage, they lived on the Agnes family farm.

Debbie loved to garden and grew many seedlings which she shared with others and had also been a 4-H leader. In 2004 Orlean and Debbie moved to Fosston and Debbie became one of the Embassy "basement ladies." It was a job she enjoyed and she really enjoyed her co-workers. In 2005 they bought a house with a nice garden spot and that's when she and Donnie Bolme became gardening partners. They raised enough for themselves and even some for the neighbors. Debbie loved to play cards but her favorite thing to do was watching Dalton play hockey and baseball.

Debbie passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Essentia Health Living Center in Fosston at the age of 66 years.

Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Orlean of Fosston; her son, Jered (Theresa) Agnes of McIntosh, Minnesota; her daughter, Linda Amundsen of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; one grandson, Dalton; and step grandson, Anthony Larson; one sister, Kathy (Ralph) Peterson of Auburn, WA; three brothers, Davis (Vicky) Korsmoe of Mt. Lake Terrace, WA, Kelvin (Sally) of Moses Lake, WA, and Kendell Korsmoe of Federal Way, WA; aunts, Clarice Kolling of Fosston and Karen Jorgenson of Clearbrook, Minnesota; and one great aunt, Dora Ness Love Joy of Roseau, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and son-in-law, John Amundsen.

Susan Marie (Naastad) Agnes

1948-2006

Susan Agnes, age 58, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday (December 31st) at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday (January 6th) at St. Marys Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Dave Super presiding. Susan Marie Naastad was born on February 6, 1948, in Baldwin, Wisconsin to parents Charlotte (Weeks) Naastad and stepfather, Vernon Naastad. She was baptized along with her brothers and sisters at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston. The Naastad family moved to Fosston from St. Paul in 1961.

Susan was united in marriage to Ernest Royal Agnes, Sr. on April 10, 1966 in Gary, Indiana. She joined the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Fosston on August 17, 1968. Susan tended to her home, raising and loving her seven children. She also held several jobs over the years; most recently her employment was at Minnesota Dehydrated Vegetables in Fosston. She was a member of the St. Marys Ladies Guild and also the Lioness Club as the tail twister.

She liked to sew, especially prom and baptismal dresses, flower girl dresses and blankets. She enjoyed shopping and was known as a bargain hunter. Susan also liked to make cakes for special occasions including weddings, baptisms, graduations and birthdays.

Susan passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2006 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 58 years, 10 months and 25 days.

She is survived by her seven children, Cathie (Tom) Lofstrand of Salol, Minnesota, Ernie Agnes, Jr. of Fosston, Matt (Colleen) Agnes of Fosston, Chris (LeAnn) Agnes of Bagley, Minnesota, Theresa (Scott) Walsh of Fosston, Sarah Agnes of Fosston, and Aimee Agnes of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren, John, Amanda, Catherine, Mandy, Stephanie, Ann Marea, Monica, Mekah, Hannah, Abby Gail, Andrew, Odessah, and Colin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, and fiance, Allen Halland in 1997.

Earl Algaard, age 91, from Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2010 at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February13th at 2:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. Family and friends may also gather at the church for one hour before the memorial service on Saturday. Interment of cremains will be at Kingo Lutheran Cemetery in Fosston at a later date, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Earl Jerome Algaard was born at home on August 11, 1918 in Nielsville, Minnesota, to Herlof and Clara (Skalet) Algaard. He moved with his family to Newfolden, Minnesota as a young child. In 1930, they moved to Fosston, Minnesota. In their first years in Fosston, the family operated the Home Café. While they had the café, Earl and his brother Orville spent their summers camping out at Cross Lake, north of Fosston, where they operated a concession stand, which was back in the days when Cross Lake was a popular gathering place for various activities.

Earl graduated from Fosston High School in 1936 as valedictorian of his class. He started working at Gambles at age 17 and suggested to his father that they purchase the store, which they did one year later in 1935. Earl and Orville operated the Gambles store along with their father for many years. After their father's death, they continued to run the store until they sold the business in 1980. Earl continued to work, and was proud to serve the community by repairing appliances in Fosston and the surrounding area until the age of 89.

Earl served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, returning to Fosston to help run the Gambles store. He was active in the Fosston community serving on the hospital board, school board, and city council. He was also a member of the American Legion.

Earl was married to Opal Dunrud on August 31, 1940. Together they had five children. On October 17, 1981 he married Barb Quam.

From a young age, Earl appreciated being out in nature. He especially enjoyed hunting, gardening, and wildlife. Earl was always interested in aviation and obtained his pilots license in his early 50s. He had a keen interest in the world around him and was an avid reader of National Geographic Magazine his entire life.

On Friday, February 5, 2010 Earl passed away at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, Minnesota at the age of 91 years.

He is survived by his wife, Barb of Fosston; three daughters, Beverly (Cecil) Nelson of Monticello, Minnesota, Virginia (Larry) Siverson of Bemidji, and Maxine (Dean) Sorgaard of Fosston; one son, Charles Algaard of Bemidji; daughter-in-law, Darlene Algaard of Moorhead, Minnesota; his wife Barb's children, Beverly (Roger) Drellack of Fertile, Minnesota, Anita (Chuck) Lucken of Fosston, Connie Mark of Kings Mountain, NC, David Quam of Crookston, Minnesota, and Dan (Cindy) Quam of Aberdeen, SD; two sisters, Marilyn Garbe of LaGrange Park, IL, and Eleanor Forseth of Chandler, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Earl loved little children and was blessed with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, David Algaard; his brother, Orville Algaard; two nephews; and one niece.

Irene "Tootsie" Aakhus, age 95, of Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Friday, January 4th at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. Irene "Tootsie" May Olson was born on May 25, 1912 in Gully, Minnesota to Hans Edward Olson and Karen (Hole) Olson. She moved to Fosston, Minnesota at age three.

Tootsie was married to Arnold Aakhus in 1929.

When Arnie was drafted into World War II, Tootsie became a telephone operator. She also was a cook at Mel's Cafe and a teacher's aide at the elementary school in Fosston. Her last position was the Program Director at the Fosston Civic Center.

Tootsie was the youngest of five children.

On Friday, January 4, 2008 Irene "Tootsie" Aakhus passed away at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston at the age of 95 years, 7 months, and 10 days.

Survivors include 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Chuck Fowlds of Orofino, ID; as well as other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnie; two sons, Chat and John (Jack); one daughter, Debbie Fowlds; one sister, Stella Wynne; and three brothers, Ernest (Dick), Clifford, and Alvin (Swede).

Regina Ann Larson

1954-2013

Regina Ann Larson, 58, of Fertile, MN, died on Friday, February 8, 2013, near her home.

She was born on May 18, 1954, to Harold and Ruth (Ofstedal) Larson in Crookston, MN. Regina was baptized and confirmed at Little Norway Lutheran Church, rural Fertile. She graduated from Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1972, and studied Criminal Justice at Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1976.

Regina worked as a Probation Officer in Norman County until 1980, when she began studying at Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, MN. She graduated in 1983, and practiced law in St. Paul, MN. Regina returned to Ada, MN in 1985, practicing law at Hellerud and Larson Law Office. On February 25, 1986, Regina was united in marriage to Mark Hellerud at Perley, MN. She continued to practice law until the present. Regina was active in the Norman County D.F.L. Party, where she contributed her time, effort and expertise to their work. Regina also worked with the Economic Development Authority in Ada, served as a director of the Day Activity Center in Ada in the 1980's and was a panel attorney for Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota.

As an animal lover, Regina had dogs, cats and horses, as well as various wild animals she befriended. Travelling in the United States, Caribbean and Central America broadened her appreciation for the world we live in. Also, because of her travels in Central America, she was inspired to sponsor young children in need of help for many years. Regina’s kind and loving spirit endeared her to many. Love of family and her history was Regina’s greatest joy.

Regina is survived by her parents, Harold and Ruth Larson, Fertile, MN; three sisters: Virginia (Deane) Radke, Fertile, MN; Linda (David) Black, Fertile, MN; Jeanette Larson (Terry Haltiner), St. Paul, MN; one brother, Harold Jr. (Sherry) Larson, Sioux Falls, SD; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Donations are preferred to the Polk County Humane Society, Crookston, MN.

Memorial services will be on Saturday, February 16, 2013, 10:30 am at Little Norway Lutheran Church, rural Fertile, MN.

Direction to Little Norway Lutheran Church--Hwy 32 (North Side of Fertile) to County Road 12 East, about 2.5 miles, church on the northside of the road.

Ordell Aanenson, Jr., age 75, from McIntosh, Minnesota passed away on Monday, October 29th at Manor Care in Fargo, North Dakota. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3rd, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Mark Peske officiating. Interment will be in Landsverk Cemetery, rural Fosston, Minnesota. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Ordell Arnott Aanenson, Jr. was born on November 22, 1936 to Ordell Arnott Aanenson, Sr. and Mildred (Lidenberg) Aanenson in the Fosston Hospital in Fosston, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Kingo Lutheran Church.

He graduated from Fosston High School in June 1955. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 1955 with Warren Johnson from Gully. He was stationed in Camp Pendelton and served his country in Okinawa, Japan, Albany, GA, S&C Department in Washington D. C., Airplane Mechanic training in Memphis, TN, was transferred to El Toro, CA at the USMC Airplane Facility (mail plane to the San Clemente Islands and C30s to Guantanamo Bay and to Jacksonville, Fl), and Vietnam. There was never any base housing for families because the Marine Corps said that "if the Marines wanted you to have a wife, they would have issued you one".

He was married to Garnet Trellis Peters on May 23, 1959 at the United Methodist Church in Fosston. Their daughter Pam was born at Bethesda, MD Naval Hospital and Janice and Steven were born in the Santa Ana Hospital, CA.

The family moved back to Fosston in June 1964 after an Honorable Discharge from the USMC, and then in June 1966 they moved to McIntosh, Minnesota. Ordell was a life member of the Marine Corps League, VFW Post 6891, and a member of the American Legion Post 114.

Ordell worked for LePier's, the Missile Bases in North Dakota, Eickhoff Construction in Crookston, and the pipeline. Ordell then worked with Warren and Daryl Ohren constructing houses, apartment buildings, drug stores, post offices, an addition to the Fosston Methodist Church, etc. Kelly Lindseth helped Ordell in 1995 with construction jobs for several years. Ordell and Garnet owned and operated the Variety Village Store in McIntosh until 1999. He was also the Maintenance person for the McIntosh Housing Apartments. He enjoyed woodworking making chests, furniture, etc. for his family and for special requests from his friends and neighbors.

Ordell's other hobby was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Ordell and Garnet took 18 trips to Sturgis, 4 trips to the West Coast, one trip to Milwaukee, one trip to Glacier National Park, and enjoyed just riding around with friends and relatives. Ordell was an Honorary Member of the Women's Shift Kickers Motorcycle Club in Minneapolis.

Some of Ordell's bucket list trips were Yellowstone Park, the ND Badlands, Teton and Rocky Mountains, Alaskan Cruise, Baltic Sea Cruise, and last year's trip to Churchhill, Manitoba, to see the Polar Bears.

Ordell enjoyed working in his shop, morning coffee at B & B Cafe, washing/waxing cars, snow blowing, mowing lawn, and playing practical jokes on many McIntosh people.

Ordell was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, McIntosh, Minnesota.

On Monday, October 29, 2012 Ordell passed away at Manor Care in Fargo, North Dakota at the age of 75 years.

Ordell is survived by his wife Garnet, daughters Pam and Janice, and son Steven, Uncle Willard (Evelyn) Lidenberg, Garnet's brothers and/or sisters, LaVerda (Clayton) Lamaack, Carmen Peters, Gordy (Pat) Peters, Nadine Kotowicz, Curt (Edna) Peters, sister-in-law Kay Peters, and brother-in-law Bodo Kotowicz. He is also survived by his Aanenson, Lidenberg and Peters cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Emojene Aanenson, step father Harry Yergens, and aunt and uncle Ruth and Goodwin Larson.

Cassandra Mae Boucher was born on September 25, 1985 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Dennis and Diane (Rustad) Boucher. She grew up in McIntosh, where she graduated from Win-E-Mac High School in 2004.

Cassandra enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, fishing and water sports. Another developing interest for Cassandra was photography, especially taking photos of her children and other members of her family. Taking care of her family was very important to her and playing with her kids was a priority for her. She spent time working at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, attended college at Northland Community College working towards a degree in nursing, and also served as waitress at restaurants in the local area.

She was united in marriage to Ambrose Anderson on June 10, 2006 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh.

Cassandra Mae Anderson passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at age of 25 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ambrose of McIntosh, Minnesota; two children, Kiersten Faith (5) and Ashton Scott (2); her parents, Dennis and Diane Boucher of McIntosh; three sisters, Christ Springer and her husband Cory of Andover, Minnesota, Cameo and her husband David Herem of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Caillie of Crookston, Minnesota; maternal grandparent, Lorraine Rustad of McIntosh and paternal grandparent, Leonard Boucher of Brooks, Minnesota; mother and father-in-law, Rhonda and Curt Pawlitschek of McIntosh; nieces, nephew, Camille Springer, Courtney, Jacob and Alyssa Hunter, Lydia Herem, and Hannah Brouse.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Caren (Boucher) Hunter; maternal grandparent, Sherman Rustad; and paternal grandparent, Veronica Boucher.

Everett Marlyn Anderson was born on November 30, 1927 in Erskine, Minnesota to parents Edwin T. and Myrtle (Carlson) Anderson. He grew up in the Erskine area and went to work for the Great Northern Railway in 1944. He worked as a telegrapher/depot agent in various locations in Minnesota and North Dakota, retiring from Burlington Northern Railroad in 1986 after 41 and one half years of service.

He entered military service in 1946 for approximately 1 and one half years in the Army Railroad Transportation Corps.

Everett was united in marriage to JoAnn Daniel on August 21, 1950 at Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. They had one daughter, Linda. After living in the Grand Rapids, Minnesota area, they moved to McIntosh in 1956 and have resided there since.

He loved his family and family gatherings; and spending time in the summer, camping. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage and took great pride in keeping his vehicles and camping equipment in shiny clean and tip-top condition.

Everett passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at his home at the age of 78 years.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn of McIntosh; his daughter, Linda; two grandsons, Jeffrey (Heather) Kahler and Jason Kahler, all of Superior, WI; nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and one brother.

Troy Donavan Monson

1963-2012

January 1, 1963 - July 7, 2012

Troy Donavan Monson, 49, of Fertile, Minnesota, died on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 3, 1963, to Arvid and Priscilla (Leines) Monson in Crookston, Minnesota. Troy grew up in rural Fertile and graduated from the Fertile-Beltrami High School in 1981. While in High School, Troy was involved with football and worked at the John Wahlin Dairy Farm. Following his schooling, Troy continued to work on the dairy farm. Troy was married for 19 years and fathered three children – Megan, Ryan and Kirsten. He worked at Culligan Water in Fertile as a service technician and installer for 25 years. During those years, Troy also worked for Mark Morvig during the harvest season. In March of 2011, Troy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. For the past months, Troy did very well to manage his sickness and maintain a normal life.

In the 1980s, Troy began participating in demolition derbies at local fairs. Later in 1998 to 2005, Troy and his brother, Trever, were involved with demo derbies together. While participating in the demo derby at Detroit Lakes, Troy won 1st place with car #17. For the past several years, Troy enjoyed riding motorcycle, especially with friends from town. Other activities he was involved with were playing a little golf, bowled as a sub for league, split wood, hunted and fished. Troy always like being outdoors, yet camping and fishing with his daughter, Kirsten, was a highlight. Troy was very proud of his children.

Troy is survived by his children: Megan, Fertile, Ryan, Pennsylvania, and Kirsten, Thief River Falls, Minnesota; his parents: Arvid and Priscilla, Fertile; siblings: Tina (Robert) Holtman, Fertile; Tammy (Robert) Stoe, Crookston, Minnesota; Tracy Clark, Bejou, Minnesota; Trever (Sarah), Rochester, Minnesota; and Tanya (Kevin) Monson-Ek, McIntosh, Minnesota; several aunts and uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Alma Leines, and Carl and Myrtle Monson; and one infant brother, Joseph.

Funeral service at Faaberg Lutheran Church Rindal, Minnesota, Wednesday, July, 11, 2012, at 10:30 am.

Visitation will be in Faaberg Lutheran Church, Rindal, Minnesota, Tuesday, July 10, 2012, from 6-8 pm with a prayer service at 8 pm.

Burial will be at the Faaberg Lutheran Cemetery, Rindal, Minnesota.

Glen Edward Anderson

Glen Anderson, age 74, of Lengby, Minnesota, passed away on Monday (March 17th) at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Glen Edward Anderson, a 100% Swede, was born on August 17th, 1939 to Walter and Esther Lindberg Anderson in Fosston, Minnesota. He attended Laduke Country School in Lengby and Fosston High School. He graduated from Fosston High School in 1956.

Glen served in the U.S. Navy from February 1957 to August 1960 as a Structural Aviation Mechanic. Following his service he was employed by Control Data for 3 years and worked in a model shop that built models of computers in sheet metal, at that time computers were as big as a small room. Glen then returned home to Lengby upon the death of his brother and worked with his father in the family business. He married Paulette Jean Brinkman of Bagley on September 14th,1968. Over the next 45 years, they continued the service station business known as Lengby Oil, and raised a family of 4 children. Glen loved his family, friends, customers, and community. He truly enjoyed working in the station, greeting his customers and helping out many in need.

He was active in the community his entire life. He was a baptize and confirmed member of Fridhem Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lengby Lions Club, Lengby City Council and Lengby Fire Department. Glen loved living in Lengby and spending his time with all the locals. He enjoyed sheet metal work, fishing, hunting, throwing dice, haying, and running any type of heavy equipment available. He truly loved people and was a dear friend to many.

Glen faced many health challenges over the years and over the last 2 months his heart of gold just could not keep up with him.

He was a wonderful husband to Polly for just over 45 years. He was a caring and supportive father to all of his children throughout their lives. He is survived by his wife, Polly, his 4 children, Teresa Brink (Scott) of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Kim Thoresen (Melvin) of Deer River MN, Leigh Hayes (John) of Buffalo, Minnesota, Stacey Templin (Dean) of Silver Lake, Minnesota. Glen has 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Ellie Francis (Dave) and numerous nieces and nephews as well as his German Shepard, Smokey #6.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents (Walter and Esther Anderson), one brother (Vernon) a sister Mildred). Nephew Brian, and great nephew Steven, and great, great nephew Anthony.

He will be dearly missed by all.

Della Minnie Lease was born on November 20, 1949, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to parents Robert and Maude Counter Lease. She grew up in Dilworth, Minnesota and attended school in that area. She then worked various jobs in the Fargo, North Dakota area before her marriage to Robert Sell on December 16, 1967. They lived and raised their family in north Fargo. Robert passed away on August 14, 1984.

After Robert's passing, Della lived in West Fargo for the next eight years. Then, in 1992, she moved to Island Lake near Lengby, Minnesota where she owned and operated the Island Lake Resort. She was married to Lloyd Abeldgaard on July 25, 1998 and together they resided in Lengby. Della was diagnosed with cancer on December 24, 2012 and Lloyd passed away on October 9, 2013.

Della liked to garden and tend to flowers. She also enjoyed going to the casino and visiting by the campfire with family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Della passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014 at her home in Fosston at the age of 64 years, eight months and 12 days.

Survivors include six children, Robert Sell of Fargo, Ronald (Stacey) Sell of West Fargo, Larry Sell of Fosston, Kristie (Jason) Sell-Krei of West Fargo, Donald Sell of Fargo, and Jonathan Sell of Fosston; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Shayna, Alexie, Alexander, Michael, Brian, and Kyle; siblings, Jim (Linda) Lease of Fargo, Millard Lease of Iowa, and Carla (Alan) Buchholz of Fargo. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Robert Sell and Lloyd Abeldgaard; one brother, Herbert Lease; and an infant sister, Natalie Haugen.

Theresa "Tracy" Sophie (Keim) Aakhus

Theresa "Tracy" Aakhus, age 85, of McIntosh, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday (November 17th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (November 23rd) at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen officiating. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery, rural McIntosh. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (November 22nd) and for one hour prior to the service on Monday, all at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, serving McIntosh.

Theresa "Tracy" Sophie Aakhus was born to John and Bernadine (Luecken) Keim on February 7, 1924 at Beaulieu, Minnesota. She moved to McIntosh at a young age and attended school in McIntosh.

She married Andy Aakhus on February 14, 1942. They farmed small grain, potatoes, chickens, and cattle. In the early 1960s Tracy started working at Felix Cafe. She later worked at the McIntosh Bakery and at Mac Manor Nursing Home until she retired in the late 1990s. She lived on the Aakhus homestead until January of 2007. She moved to the Poplar Meadows Senior Living apartments and lived there until October of 2009.

She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh. Tracy passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 85 years.

Survivors include her four children, Eileen (Sidney) Nelson of Moorhead, Minnesota, Duwain (Bonnie Swanson) of Ham Lake, Minnesota, Paul (Beverly Fritz) of Erskine, Minnesota, and Barbara (William) Marshall of Chesapeake, VA; 15 grandchildren, Del (Linda) Nelson, Jerry (Debbie) Nelson, Tommy (Julie) Nelson, Andy (Lisa) Nelson, Jolene Nelson, Mary Nelson, Steve (Kim) Aakhus, Tammy Larsen, Sherry Aakhus, Jason (Bobbi) Aakhus, Jeff (Laura) Aakhus, Justin (Sami) Aakhus, Jacob Aakhus, Shawn Marshall and Chad Marshall; 8 great grandchildren, Zachariah, Katie, Brenner and Emily Nelson, Natalie, Jordan, Allison and Bobby Aakhus. 6 step grandchildren, Matt, Josh, Alexis, Luke, Phenix and Piper.

Also surviving are siblings, Katherine Killian, Gertrude Antel, John Keim, Jr., Mary Lou (Mack) Campbell, RoseMarie Manetas, Shirley Ann (John) Ayotte, Patricia (John) Dulmage, Roxanne Lanners and sister-in-law, Ethel Keim.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy in 1978; her parents, John and Bernadine; brothers Frank, Melvin, Harold and Ronald; sisters, Mary, Margaret and Angeline Lowe; brothers-in-law, Cornellis Killian, Charles Antel, Mark Garrett, John Manetas, and Bruce Lanners; sisters-in-law, Lil Keim, Rose Keim and Susie Keim; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty Lou (Bjornerud) Abeldgaard

1934-2012

Betty Abeldgaard, age 78, from rural Lengby, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston, Minnesota.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston with Father Dave Super officiating. A private interment will be held at Poplar River Cemetery, Fosston, at a later date. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Betty Lou Abeldgaard, the daughter of Edwin and Leona (Fish) Bjornerud was born February 11, 1934 in Fosston, Minnesota.

Betty attended Fosston High School and graduated with the Class of 1952. Throughout her high school career she enjoyed being a cheerleader.

On June 28, 1952 Betty was united in marriage to Harold Abeldgaard at the Catholic Church in Fosston. Harold and Betty have lived and raised their family in the Lengby area since that time. Betty had various jobs throughout her married life, such as working for Overboe Motors and a cafe both in Fargo, North Dakota., for the bank in Fosston and as the clerk for Abeldgaard Auctions for many years. After her husband retired from the auctioneer business, Betty worked at the Bluegill Cafe in Lengby until her health prevented her from doing so.

Betty enjoyed genealogy, refinishing furniture, collecting antiques, painting, knitting, playing bingo and going to the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, Minnesota. Also, Betty enjoyed making bread bag rugs and giving them to family members. She loved animals especially dogs and spent every day with her loyal chihuahuas Sassy, Mitzi and Tootsie by her side. She loved visiting with family and friends that stopped by to see her and especially loved spending time with her great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She and the wisdom she shared will be dearly missed.

Betty passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston at the age of 78.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Harold Abeldgaard; children, Jeff Abeldgaard of Lengby, Minnesota; Mark (Sara) Abeldgaard of Lengby, Minnesota and Diane (Billy Bushelle) Sherer of Lengby, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Kurt) Ziegler, David (Samantha James) Abeldgaard, Christopher Abeldgaard, Samantha Abeldgaard, Katelynn Abeldgaard, Katie (Andrew Damann Jr.) Sherer, Matthew (Tabitha) Sherer and Daniel (Amanda Tesch) Sherer; seven great grandchildren, Hailey Ziegler, Dawson Abeldgaard, Isabella Johnson, Augustus Damann, Shayla Sherer, Ciara Sherer and coming soon Maci Sherer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Leona (Fish) Bjornerud and one infant son, David and other relatives.

Manfred Albin

1913-2008

Manfred Albin, age 95, of Fosston, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday (May 3rd) at the Midway Care Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday (May 13th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston with Pastor Lois Ball officiating. Interment will be in the Lengby City Cemetery, Lengby. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Military honors will be provided by the Spring Lake VFW Post #2759 of Lengby and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Manfred Albin was born on April 13, 1913 in Clarkfield, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota to parents Olaf and Ida (Swenson) Albin. He grew up and attended rural school in Yellow Medicine County. Manfred farmed prior to his entrance in the United States Army in October of 1942. He served his country in the 12th Armored Division and the 134th Maintenance Division in the European Theatre during World War II.

After he received his honorable discharge in February of 1946, Manfred purchased a farm near Lengby, Minnesota where he lived with his parents. He farmed and did some repair work. Manfred moved to Fosston, Minnesota in 2005 and to the Midway Care Center in December of 2007.

Manfred enjoyed carpentry, metal working and hand crafted three model steam engines.

Manfred passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at the Midway Care Center at the age of 95 years.

He is survived by cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Annie; and niece, Shirley.
