Vera A. Gelen 1924-2014
July 20, 1924 - October 22, 2014
Resided in Crookston, Minnesota
Vera Gelen, age 90, of Crookston, Minnesota passed away peacefully
on October 22, 2014 at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home.
Vera was born on July 20, 1924 to Lambert and Evelina Lundmark in
Leonard, Minnesota. In 1942, Vera graduated from Clearbrook High School,
before going on to start her career. Directly out of high school, Vera
moved to Washington D.C., where she was working in the War Department
for three years. She was able to return to Bemidji, Minnesota, in 1945 to
work for the Register of Deed's Office. It was during this time that she
met the love of her life, Louis Gelen, who was a paratrooper in World War
II.
Vera and Louis got married on October 31, 1948 at the First Lutheran
Church in Bemidji.
Vera was so proud of her husband's service to the United States, she even
had her wedding dress made out of the material from Louis' parachute. Over
the course of Vera and Louis' 65 year marriage, they were blessed with the
adoption of their two children, Lori and David, whom Vera regarded as "the
best thing to ever happen to her." Vera was a wonderful and loving mother,
as it was in her heart to put everyone else's needs and wants ahead of her
own, no matter who it may be. Upon moving back to Crookston, Vera worked
for the Credit Bureau, Register of Deeds Office, Padden, Dickel, and
Johanson Law Office, and Strander Abstract Company.
Vera was an active
member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 60 years, and she loved her
church family very much. She served her church in many ways which included
being a Sunday School teacher, serving in the Altar Guild, WELCA, and
leading bible study groups. She was also a devoted member of the American
Legion Auxiliary, and served as a past president. Louis and Vera were able to spend many winters in Arizona, spending time with their son David,
as well as his wife Lucy, and her grandson, Jonathan. When home, Vera
enjoyed getting together with her family and friends for coffee,
sometimes having it turn into "a little lunch" as well.
For many years, Vera would always have a crossword puzzle that she was working on. Her extensive vocabulary led her to beat her daughter Lori in Scrabble, time and again. When Vera wasn't playing scrabble and working on crossword puzzles, she enjoyed cooking and baking Scandinavian meals and treats for her family and friends. The well-rounded woman that Vera was, she even participated on a bowling league for many years. Vera is described by all those who know her as the "epitome of grace". She was always happy and never without a smile on her face, no matter what life circumstances arose. Vera was a kind and loving woman, who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Vera is survived by her faithful and loving husband Louis Gelen of Crookston; daughter Lori Gelen of Bemidji; son David (Lucy) Gelen of Chandler, Arizona; grandson Jonathan Gelen of Chandler, Arizona; sister-in-law Florence Lundmark of Bemidji; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Vera is preceded in death by her siblings Elna Monson, Esther Norman, Elsie Nordlund, Julia Hedin, Edwin Lundmark, and two infant brothers. May God bless Vera's memory.
A funeral service and celebration of Vera's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, Minnesota with the Reverend Jo Gast, officiating. A visitation and time with Vera's family will be held one hour prior to the service, and Interment will take place immediately following the funeral service at Oakdale Cemetery.

Charles Robert "Chuck" Kanten 1927-2014
July 18, 1927 - July 21, 2014
Resided in Crookston, Minnesota
Obituary--
Charles Robert "Chuck" Kanten, age 87, of Crookston, Minnesota, and a former longtime Milan, Minnesota farmer, died peacefully at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston on Monday evening, July 21, 2014, comforted that his family was at his side.
Chuck was born at Montevideo, Minnesota, on July 18, 1927, one of
seven children of the union of Ole and Ellen (Aamodt) Kanten. He grew up
on the family's farm in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, near Milan;
and was baptized and confirmed at the Big Bend Lutheran Church. After
attending a nearby country school he went on to graduate from Milan High
School in 1945. Chuck then began working on the farm with his father. He
enlisted in the National Guard in November, 1947, and was called to active
duty with the US Army on January 16, 1951. Chuck served stateside at Camp
Rucker, AL as an Infantry Tank Leader, and received his honorable discharge
with the rank of MSgt on October 27, 1952. Upon his return he was
re-activated into the Guard and retired after twenty years of service.
On December 27, 1952 Chuck was united in marriage to Anne Ione Knutson
at the Eagle Grove Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, IA. Chuck and Anne lived
and farmed in Big Bend Township and together raised 3 children: Kent, Erik,
and Rebecca. They were devoted members of Kviteseid Lutheran Church, where
Chuck served as Sunday school superintendent for many years, and gave of
his time and talents to the Board of Deacons. He was also a board member
of the Madison Lutheran Home. In 1975 he and Anne traveled as Lay Mission
Observers for the American Lutheran Church to Kenya, Tanzania, South
Africa, Cameroun, the Central African Empire, and Libya, learning to
connect mission with land and hunger issues and sharing that knowledge
with district ALC congregations.
While overseeing a very successful farming operation growing sugar beets and small grains, Chuck served as a director of the Southern Minnesota Sugar Beet Coop, and was a director for the Milan Farmers' Coop Elevator. Additionally he held membership in the Countryside Council Task Force at Marshall, Minnesota. He became very active in the American Agriculture Movement (AAM), and in 1978 spent several months in Washington, DC focusing his efforts on agricultural policy in general, and the cause of Minnesota farmers in particular. In 1979 he and his son, Kent, drove a tractor from their farm to Washington D.C. in solidarity with others seeking to have their voices heard. He and Anne spent many winter months in Washington working on domestic sugar legislation, and lobbying congress for fair agricultural policy over the next years. He was also voted Land Conservation Farmer of the Year for his work in furthering that endeavor, and added his counsel to the Bread for the World program.
In 1983 the couple relocated to St. Paul, Minnesota as Anne became Minnesota's Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture during Governor Rudy Perpich's administration. At this same time Chuck served as Director of Rural Ministries for the American Lutheran Church with offices in Minneapolis. Chuck continued to be extremely active in the work of the Church and its relationship to farming by speaking at churches across the US, and conducting workshops at Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, IA and Augsburg College in Minneapolis entitled, "A Farmer Looks at World Hunger." He also worked with the production team that made the ALC film, "Gathered and Scattered."
Chuck and Anne later made their home in Hawick, Minnesota, near New London-Spicer, and then in 2000 returned to Milan. Retirement from farming could not be found in Chuck's vocabulary and it was not unusual to see him visiting the farm, climbing out of his pick-up with cane in hand, and "supervising." In 2012 Chuck and Anne came to Crookston and became residents of the Summit at Villa St. Vincent. With his health in decline, Chuck had recently moved to the nursing home side of the campus.
Chuck's legacy was one of family, farming, faith, and flag; the love and devotion he had for his wife, Anne, and their children and grandchildren; his passion for the land that meant so much to him and his pride in passing its stewardship on to his son; a lifetime of faith and service to the Lord; and his patriotism demonstrated every time he put on his uniform. May God richly bless the memory of Charles Robert Kanten.
Grateful to have shared in Chuck's life is his beloved wife of 61 years, Anne; their 3 children and spouses: Kent Kanten and wife, Kim, of Milan, Minnesota, Erik Kanten and his wife, Judie, of Crookston, Minnesota, and Rebecca Kanten-McCoy and her husband, Jack McCoy, of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren: James (Laura) Kanten of Milan, Kristin (Aaron) Vadnais of Benson, Minnesota, Timothy (Sierra) Kanten of Milan; Emily Kanten (Alex Ranz) of Moorhead, Minnesota, Sarah Kanten, Mollie Kanten, and Rachel Kanten, all of Crookston; and Noah McCoy and Caitlin McCoy of White Bear Lake. He also leaves a brother, Ralph (Virgie) Kanten of Tempe, AZ; a sister, Alvira Anderson of Los Angeles, CA; 2 brothers-in-law, Alvin Chromey of New Prague, Minnesota and Lou Errede of Wayzata, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Chuck was preceeded in death by sisters Betty Kanten, Helen Chromey, Marion Errede and Dee Kanten.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Charles Robert Kanten will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2014, in the Chapel of the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, Minnesota, with The Rev. Cathie Rhodes, officiating. Visitation with Chuck's family will be for one hour prior to the service.
A second memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 3, 2014, in the Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, Minnesota, with The Rev. Kristine Isder, officiating. Visitation will be at the church for the hour before the service. Burial will take place in the Kviteseid Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.

August 24, 1938 - August 7, 2014
Resided in Erskine, Minnesota
Obituary--
Donald Robert Staehnke, 75, of Erskine, Minnesota, died early Thursday
morning, August 7, 2014, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota,
with his loving wife, Gloria, and their children at his side. Don had been
battling ill health for the past several years while never letting it
defeat his spirit.
Don was born at Clearbrook, Minnesota, on August 24, 1938, one of five
children born to the union of Harold and Florence (Hanson) Staehnke. He was
baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and first attended elementary

Don retired in 1995 and soon after he and Gloria moved to their lake
home on Union Lake, near Erskine. For the next several years Don did

pastimes including fishing, ice fishing, and deer hunting with his kids

him a 'social butterfly.'
Don always exhibited a keen interest in whatever those around
him were doing, so much so, that he would take on the challenge
of learning and doing those things himself. He was currently a member of
the Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine, and a former member of Rodnes
Lutheran Church, near Erskine, and Crookston's Trinity Lutheran Church.
He also held memberships in the American Legion, Eagles Aerie, Lions Club,

Nelson of Karlstad, Minnesota, and John (Margie) Nelson of Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota; along
with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Florence;

Gustafson. May God bless Don's memory.

At the age of five, he moved with his parents and family to a farm in Fairfax Township, near Crookston, and attended a nearby country school. He later began working on the farm with his father and brothers. These years were the forerunners of what was to come when he began his own farming operation. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gentilly, Minnesota, attended a nearby
country school, and high School at Mount St. Benedict in Crookston. She

She was a devoted member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, where she
volunteered many hours cleaning and beautifying the Church, while also

spoiling her grandchildren; making each feel that they were her "favorite."
They all spent many nights lying on Grandma's bed with her, watching 'Animal
Planet' and 'Cops' on television.
Doris was well-known for the hearty meals
she served and her delicious home-made caramel rolls. She loved to play
cards and for many years she and Dick belonged to a card club with friends
and neighbors. While a resident of the Nimens-Espegard Apartments she
spent her time reading and feeding the birds, and enjoyed visiting with
the many new friends she made there, and also at the Summit Apartments
where she had recently moved. Doris's love, sense of humor, and uniqueness
will be greatly missed, and her memory forever treasured by all who shared
in her life.
Doris leaves her four children, Rick Sweep and his wife, Jane, of

and Jada Ford of Hawley, and Elliot and Danica Brekken of Crookston; two
sisters, Florence Dufault of Crookston and Dorothy LaCoursiere of Milwaukee,
WI; brother, Hilaire Prudhomme and his wife, Jean, of Milwaukee; and many

husband of fifty-three years, Doris was preceded in death by her parents;

Sister Margaret Thueringer 1928-2014
June 17, 1928 - September 18, 2014
Resided in Crookston, Minnesota
Obituary
Sister Margaret Thueringer, OSB, 86, died peacefully at Villa Saint Vincent in Crookston, September 18, 2014.
Margaret was born in Britton, South Dakota, on June 17, 1928. She was the second oldest of John and Annie Thueringer's four children. Her father was a farmer and the family lived in various places: Britton, South Dakota, Rutland, North Dakota, and finally Beaulieu, Minnesota, located east of Mahnomen.
The desire to become a sister occurred to Margaret before she was of school-age. She attributed her vocation to the Franciscan Sisters in Hankinson, North Dakota, having become acquainted with them when her brother was a boarder in their academy as a first-grader. Sister Margaret thought, however that her vocation to be a sister actually came from her "dear, devoted, religious parents."
After the family moved to Beaulieu, she attended Rosedale country school for seven years. Sister Margaret related the story of being very shy, but her brother (two years older) had bragged that she could tap-dance. She recalled jumping around and demonstrating what she called tap-dancing. With the intention of becoming a sister, She attended Mount Saint Benedict Academy as an eighth-grader and through high school. Sister Margaret wrote, "I think my father was the proudest man on earth to have a daughter who was going to be a sister!"
Margaret entered the Mount Saint Benedict community on January 6, 1945 and was invested with the Benedictine habit as a novice on July 11, 1946. At this time she received the name Sister Marguerita (Later she reverted back to her baptismal name of Margaret). She made first monastic profession on July 16, 1946 and her final profession in 1949.
Sister Margaret received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Viterbo College in LaCrosse, WI. Her first teaching assignment was to Saint Joseph's School, Red Lake Falls as a teacher of the primary grade children. She taught in East Grand Forks, Barnesville, Moorhead, Bemidji, Mahtomedi and Benson in Minnesota, Asherton, TX and in Bogota, Colombia.
In Bogota she taught in an all-boys school which graduated many of the country's most important political leaders including a president of Colombia. She expressed her convictions about teaching when she wrote "I feel I can help others, especially the little ones, in knowing and loving Jesus better through my teaching." Outside the classroom, she felt most privileged when she was chosen to be an Extraordinary Minister of Communion. She thought it was her greatest honor to bring Christ to others in the Eucharist.
She retired from teaching in 1990 and returned to the Mount. She assisted in a variety of ways, chiefly in the garden and cannery. She particularly enjoyed picking chokecherries and ground cherries used to make jellies, and she accompanied others on outings to pick wild blueberries.
Sister Margaret made many items for the Mount gift shop: baby booties, caps, scarves and mitten sets, afghans and slipper socks. She grew Job's tears plants and picked the seeds which became beads for more than 500 rosaries. She also made cord rosaries which were distributed to prisoners in the Northwest Correctional Center. She faithfully assisted in the development office by making daily recordings of donations, and would remember each donor in her daily prayer.
She suffered a stroke in April, 2013. As a result she became a resident of Villa Saint Vincent. Her ministry became one of prayer and suffering. To the very end, Sister Margaret maintained a sense of humor and a positive attitude.
Sister Margaret is preceded in death by her parents and siblings. She is survived by the Sisters of Saint Benedict of Crookston and many nieces and nephews.
Reception of Sister Margaret's body will be at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 21 with visitation from 5:00 until the 7:00 p.m. prayer service. Sister Margaret's funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. September 22, with Father Vincent Miller presiding. All services will be in Sacred Heart Chapel, Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, 620 Summit Ave. Crookston, Minnesota.

Della Evon Montreuil 1947-2014
Obituary
Della Evon Montreuil, of Euclid, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly in
her home on September 17, 2014.
Della was born in Warren, Minnesota, on November 2nd, 1947 to Lauverne
and Lillian Cormican. As Della was raised in Euclid, she attended Euclid
Elementary School. From there, she went to Crookston for middle school,
as well as high school. Sadly, when Della was 16, her mother Lillian
passed away. It was at this time that Della became a natural caretaker.
She stayed home from then on to take care of her father, Lauverne. Because
Della took such great care of her dad, Lauverne started calling her "Babe",
which was a nickname that followed Della throughout the rest of her years.
In Della's twenties is when she started working in what she loved, which
was farming. She worked for Euclid Fertilizer, but eventually had to leave
to start to take care of her Grandpa, as well as continue the care of her
father. Della met the love of her life, Ralph Montreuil, at a wedding
dance in 1963.
After four years of dating, they decided to have a wedding dance of
their own, and they got married on April 22, 1967. Eight years later,
Della and Ralph welcomed a beautiful baby girl into their lives, Lisa
Louise. For many years, Della went on to work in Climax for Harlow Grove,
continuing her love of farming by driving beet truck and grain truck. When
Della was not fishing or camping, she excelled at snow sled racing. Della
actually was the first woman to finish the "Winnipeg to St. Paul" snow
sled race in qualifying time.
However, what Della really and truly loved
the most was being a Grandma. Dustin and Colton were her whole life, and
she was willing to do anything and everything for them. She also loved
spending time with her niece Corrie and her husband Shawn, as they were
two very special people to her. Of course, Della had a soft spot in her
heart for her dogs Jackie, Amber, Mustard, and Emma, and they had true
unconditional love for her.
Della is preceded in death by her parents, Lauverne and Lillian Cormican of Euclid; and grandparents John and Josie Cormican of Argyle, and Fred and Irene Teal of Euclid. Leah Martina (Bergum) Friebohle 1919-2014
August 12, 1919 - September 15, 2014
Resided in Crookston, Minnesota
Obituary
Leah Martina Friebohle, 95, of Crookston, Minnesota, died
Monday morning, September 15, 2014, at the Villa St. Vincent in
Crookston with her loving family at her side.
Leah was born on August 12, 1919, on her parents' farm in Woodside
Township, near Fertile, Minnesota, the daughter of Iver and Betsy (Nesheim)
Bergum. She was baptized and confirmed at the Maple Lake Lutheran Church
and attended the nearby Woodside Country School. During the latter part
of the 1930's she worked as a housekeeper and nanny for families in Fertile
and Duluth, Minnesota. Leah moved to Detroit, Michigan, during the wartime years and was
employed at General Motors. She was united in marriage to Francis Noud in
1943, and the couple made their home in Detroit where their sons, James
and Michael were born. Next was a move across country to San Francisco
where daughters, Anita and Linda were born. Leah and her growing family
came back to Minnesota and settled at Maple Bay where Marcia was born.
In 1959 Crookston became home to Leah and the kids, and a year later,
on June 3, 1960, she was united in marriage to Eugene E. "Gene" Friebohle.
Son, Danny, was born a year later. Gene was employed by Saul Motors, later
known as Salem Motors, and for several years Leah devoted herself to being
wife, mom, and homemaker. She began employment as a CNA for Polk County
Nursing Service in 1973, and two years later accepted a similar position
with the Riverview Nursing Home. She loved her job and the residents of
the nursing home absolutely loved Leah. She retired in 1994 at the age
of 75. Sadly, Gene passed away on March 27, 2011.
While her kids were growing up and coming of age, the Friebohle home was always the gathering place and "center of action" for all the neighborhood kids. Leah loved the commotion and excitement of having young people around. She enjoyed looking after her family, and extended that to embrace their friends as well. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, and looked forward to every minute spent with her kids, grandkids, and friends. She was also a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and WELCA. As a resident of Villa St. Vincent Leah became such a friend to her caregivers that even after they no longer worked there they still came back to visit her. Leah's 95 years were dedicated to a life of faith, strength, wisdom, and tenderness; all lessons she passed on to her children. She will be very lovingly remembered by everyone who was fortunate enough to be a part of her life.
Leah is survived by 5 children: James (Micki) Noud of Burbank, CA, Anita (Lauren) Walter and Linda Hagen (Don) Shirbish of Crookston, Marcia (Garland) Purdy of Maple Bay, Minnesota, and Danny Friebohle of Crookston; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and granddog, Harvey. She also leaves 2 brothers-in-law, Donald Friebohle of Albany, GA and Glendon Friebohle of San Diego, CA; a sister-in-law, Doris (Dean) Baumann of Des Moines, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to Gene, her beloved husband of 50 years, Leah was preceded in death by her son, Michael Joseph Noud; her parents, Iver and Betsy Bergum, and 16 brothers and sisters. May God richly bless the memory of Leah Martina Friebohle.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Leah Friebohle will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2014, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Jo Gast, officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral. Inurnment will take place in the Maple Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Mentor, Minnesota at a later date.

Donald Alfred "Rewind" Peterson 1930-2014
January 17, 1930 - September 6, 2014
Resided in Crookston, Minnesota
Obituary
Donald Alfred "Rewind" Peterson, 84, a longtime Crookston, Minnesota businessman, died early Saturday evening, September 6, 2014, at RiverView Health in Crookston, with his wife, Betty, at his side. He had been battling illness for several months.
Don was born on January 17, 1930 at Grand Forks, North Dakota,
the son of Peter A. and Minnie (Johnson) Peterson. He grew up in Grand Forks, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School with the Class of 1949. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks for a short time and then worked for Acme Electric. When the Korean War started Don enlisted in the US Army on March 4, 1951, serving stateside with the Signal Corps at Camp San Luis Obispo, CA for most of his tour. His sweetheart, a young Crookston girl by the name of Betty Lorraine Paasche, joined him at San Luis Obispo where the two were united in marriage on July 12, 1952. Following his honorable discharge from active duty on March 3, 1953, Don and Betty settled in Crookston and Don founded his business known as Crookston Electric in 1954. It was from these days of selling motors, and refurbishing some by rewinding them that he gained the nickname, "Rewind." This became how everyone for miles around affectionately knew him. During these early years of married life Don and Betty were blessed by the births of daughter, Deborah, in 1955, and son, Gregory, in 1958. In 1964 Don moved his business to a new location in Crookston and expanded it to include the sales of Honda motorcycles. He sold so many he earned two trips to Japan which he gave away. In 1979 Don changed the business over completely, going away from motors and dedicating it entirely to motorcycle and marine sales, and naming it Crookston Marine. He took great pride in creating the 3rd largest Glastron boat dealership in the world. Based on sales Don and Betty received trips to Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Brazil, and Mexico. As a dealer for Mercury boat motors as well, Crookston Marine ranked in the top 10% for sales among all Mercury dealers in the US and Canada for 5 years running. In 1986 Don sold the business, and three years later started Crookston Boat Mart. He successfully operated that business until retirement in 1993 after a long and very rewarding career. Great sadness was visited upon Don, Betty, and their family with the passing of daughter, Debbie, on May 6, 2010 after a courageous battle against cancer.
Professionally Don served on several advisory boards for
Coleman and Mercury Marine; was elected to the Mercury Dealer Congress
for 5 years running; and was an Ambassador for the Lund Boat Company.
Don was a devoted member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, and also held
memberships in Eagles Aerie 873, American Legion Post 20, the Crookston
Lions Club, and the Order of Elks. He became very involved with the
entertainment and building committees of the Crookston Golden Link
Senior Citizens Center and served on the Board for many years, including
three terms as Board president.
He provided leadership and support to the
statewide chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as several other
youth organizations. He had many favorite pastimes throughout his life,
including fishing, hunting, playing golf, keeping his yard and flower
gardens immaculate, and of course settling in at the card table for the
'occasional' game of Smear. Don loved Betty and his kids, grandkids, and
great-grandkids with all his heart and dedicated his life to them. He
will be missed beyond measure.
Don is survived by Betty, his beloved wife and best friend of 62 years; their son, Gregory Peterson of Alexandria, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren: Troy, Hollie, Kendra, Jessica, Jonathan, and Madison; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Clarice Kuhlman and Marjorie Lennox of Grand Forks, North Dakota; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Kathy Peterson of Erskine, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. In addition to his daughter, Deborah Wenner, Don was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Minnie; and 3 brothers: Orville, Morris, and Chester. Blessed be the memory of Donald Alfred "Rewind" Peterson.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Don Peterson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Jo Gast, officiating. Visitation with the family will be for one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston with military honors provided by the Crookston Veterans Council.

Born: October 09, 1949
Died: November 13, 2014
Judy Oberg, 65, Argyle, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in
her sleep on Wednesday, November 13, 2014.
Judith Cris Ann Horgen was born on October 9, 1949, to Clarence and
Junice (Paulson) Horgen, in Warren, Minnesota. She graduated from Warren High
School and shortly thereafter married Galen Oberg on November 24, 1968.
The young couple moved to Stillwater, and White Bear Lake, Minnesota, before

various nursing homes, among other jobs, and was employed at Nordic

Judy was full of life and had many interests and hobbies; including
reading and buying books, especially Stephen King novels; gardening and
planting flowers, the more unusual the better; and being outdoors, whether
it was to soak up the sun, feed the birds, or enjoy a bonfire.
"Wonder Woman," as her children called her, had a place in
her heart for everyone and everything (even the Minnesota Vikings), and
wouldn't think twice about giving away anything in her "general
store" home, to someone in need. Judy's family was her greatest
passion and she was always there for support or a laugh. She will be
greatly missed.
In addition to her husband of nearly 46 years, Judy is survived by her
children, Cristina (Tony Wollin) Klegstad of Karlstad, Minnesota, Aaron
