STATE MEETING OF W.C.T.U.

VERY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING WAS HELD IN DULUTH DURING THE PAST WEEK

GOOD PROGRESS WAS MADE

DURING PAST YEAR--DIAMOND MEDAL CAME NEAR COMING TO R.R. VALLEY

From Tuesday Daily-- The delegates from this district returned this morning from the meeting of the State W.C.T.E., held at Duluth, beginning on Thursday last. It was a grand and helpful meeting, attracting a very lare attendance from all parts of the state.

In an interview this morning, Mrs. Chapin, who was in the city between trains, to a Times reporter said: "The state convention of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in Duluth last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There were one hundred and twenty-nine voting delegates, besides many visitors. Mrs. Lucy Chapin, of Euclid, Miss Esther Ballard, of Warren, and Mrs. Sjerdal, of Ada, were the delegates from this district, Miss Ballard being one of the six contestants for the diamond medal, and many thought should have been the winner.""Mrs. Scovell, who has been the state president for twelve years, refused re-election, as she wanted a rest, and Miss Rosette Hendrix, the former vice president, was elected in her stead.

Mrs. Scovell taking her place as vice president. "Mrs. Kate Kercher, of Minneapolis, takes the place of Mrs. Ella Hendrix as corresponding secretary. Mrs. Belle Welch, as recording secretary, and Mrs. Della Mandigo, as treasurer, were re-elected. "Mrs. Mary Harris Armor, the president of Georgia, was the convention speaker, and she told the vast audience that filled the largest church in Duluth, "How Georgia Went Dry." She held her audience for two hours with her wit and wisdom, and then raised a campaign fund of over six hundred dollars, which, with the money already at hand, makes a fund of over eleven hundred dollars to begin. . . ."
