Monday evening's storm hit Fertile with considerable force and for a time things were very lively in that village. The 60-foot hose tower was blown down and the flagstaff at the top was poked through the front window of the Fertile House, which is operated by Fred Barhalz, and caused quite a commotion. The tower fell at right angles across the street, and as the fire bell was suspended at the top, there was some music when the top of the tower struck the ground.
There were also many shade trees ruined, but practically no damage was done to the crops, as they are all cut. Threshing operations, however, will be delayed there for a couple of days.
